On Specimens Of Darevskia Armeniaca (Sauria: Lacertidae: Darevskia) Collected From Ardahan, Çeti̇n Ilgaz

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Forty-seven Darevskia armeniaca specimens collected from 2 different localities in Ardahan were examined in terms of pholidosis characters, morphometric measurements and colour-pattern features. The 2 populations were differentiated from one another in terms of the number of supraciliar plates (left-right) (SCPa-SCPb), supralabial plates (left-right) (SRLa-SRLb) and transversal series of ventral plates (TVP) according to the results of the Mann-Whitney U test. An independent t-test based on morphometric measurements revealed significant differences in terms of the head index (HI) between the 2 populations. Regarding pholidosis characters, morphometric measurements and colour-pattern features, specimens collected from the 2 localities showed a similarity to …

Morphological And Biometrical Comparisons Of Mesocricetus Nehring, 1898 (Mammalia: Rodentia) Species Distributed In The Palaearctic Region, Nuri̇ Yi̇ği̇t, Ercüment Çolak, Rolf Gattermann, Karsten Neumann, Şaki̇r Özkurt, Muhammed Mouradi Gharakheloo, Peter Fritzsche, Reyhan Çolak

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Currently, 4 species, Mesocricetus auratus, Mesocricetus raddei, Mesocricetus newtoni, and Mesocricetus brandti of the genus Mesocricetus are accepted as the valid taxa based on karyotype and morphologic features. A potential fifth species, Mesocricetus nigriculus, is under dispute and is currently listed as a subspecies of M. raddei, along with Mesocricetus raddei raddei and Mesocricetus raddei avaricus. UPGMA cluster analyses performed with biometrical measures confirm, only partially, the common separation of Mesocricetus hamsters into a Transcaucasian group with Mesocricetus newtoni, Mesocricetus brandti, and Mesocricetus auratus, and a Ciscaucasian group including the M. raddei subspecies. The status of M. nigriculus could not …

Turkish Journal of Zoology

We examined 529 specimens of Mus domesticus and Mus macedonicus from Turkey, in terms of their morphological, bacular, and phallic aspects. The zygomatic index (ZI) varied from 0.32 to 0.47 in M. domesticus, and 0.60 to 0.85 in M. macedonicus. The head plus body length/tail length (H+B/T) index varied from 0.87 to 1.05 in M. domesticus, and 1.08 to 1.78 in M. macedonicus. The zygomatic plate is straight or convex in M. domesticus and M. macedonicus. The ventral wing of the parietal is generally tortuous in M. domesticus and is protruding or straight in M. macedonicus. The anterolabial cusp on …

New Localities For Leptotyphlops Macrorhynchus (Jan, 1862) (Reptilia: Leptotyphlopidae) In Turkey, İsmai̇l Hakki Uğurtaş, Murat Sevi̇nç, Mehmet Öz, Rahşen S. Kaya Jan 2006

New Localities For Leptotyphlops Macrorhynchus (Jan, 1862) (Reptilia: Leptotyphlopidae) In Turkey, İsmai̇l Hakki Uğurtaş, Murat Sevi̇nç, Mehmet Öz, Rahşen S. Kaya

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Four new localities of Leptotyphlops macrorhynchus (JAN, 1862) were recorded in Turkey. Two of the localities were found within the previously known distribution area on the east side of the Fırat River, and the other 2 were found on the west side. As a result, the distribution range of Leptotyphlops macrorhynchus has been extended. Information about the morphological features of the captured specimens is given.

Karyological And Some Morphological Characteristics Of Spalax Leucodon Nordmann, 1840 (Mammalia: Rodentia) Superspecies Around Kastamonu Province, Turkey, Mustafa Sözen, Murat Sevi̇ndi̇k, Ferhat Matur

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The karyotypes and morphology of 98 specimens of the subterranean mole rat Spalax leucodon Nordmann, 1840 across 18 localities in and around Kastamonu province were analysed. It was determined that S. leucodon has 2n = 54, NF = 72; 2n = 56, NF = 74; 2n = 58, NF = 74; 2n =60, NF = 74 in the populations from the Kastamonu region. According to these karyological findings based on chromosome morphology the diploid chromosome numbers of 2n = 56, 2n =58, and 2n = 60 determined here are new for Spalax leucodon in Turkey. Because diploid numbers of these …

Saponaria Bargyliana Gombault (Caryophyllaceae): A New Record For Turkey And Analysis Of Its Morphological Characters With Related Species, Bi̇rol Mutlu

Turkish Journal of Botany

Previously, Saponaria bargyliana Gombault was known only from its type locality, the north of Syria in the Nosaïris mountains, which was published by Gombault in 1962. During a field trip in June 2002 to Erzin (Hatay) district, the species was collected for the second time from a new locality far from its locus classicus. Thus, this species was described as a new record for the flora of Turkey. The description of this species was expanded and its geographical distribution, habitat, flowering time and conservation status are discussed. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of Saponaria bargyliana and closely related species is discussed. …

The Morphology And Anatomy Of Crocus Flavus Weston Subsp. Flavus (Iridaceae), Canan Özdemi̇r, Peli̇n Baran, Yurdanur Akyol

Turkish Journal of Botany

The morphological and anatomical characteristics of Crocus flavus Weston subsp. flavus (Iridaceae) were investigated. Cross-sections of the root, stem, corm and leaf parts of C. flavus subsp. flavus were examined and cross-sections of the root, stem and leaf demonstrated by illustrations. The corm-tunic is membranous, splitting into vertical fibres and lacking distinct horizontal rings at the base. The style is obscurely trilobed or slightly divided. These features are characteristic of C. flavus subsp. flavus. Differences such as shape of leaf keel and branching of style were determined by comparing the results obtained from this subspecies with the results obtained from …
