I add to existing scholarship an explanation of the rhetorical priming work that Franklin D. Roosevelt employed to overcome isolationism in the United States. Roosevelt asked the American people to trust him through the next great world crisis and used his prior two terms as well as strategic enemy construction as support. He framed the memory of his first two terms tightly and told them what to remember from their shared experiences to formulate an America ready for war. Situated in Chicago, IL, the process of commemoration will be realized as a set of architectural pavilions, each reconstructing a critical moment from the city's past. Said events will be selected for their influence on Chicago's development and should be commemorated on the sites at which they occured. As a series of episodes throughout the city, the architecture will emphasize the interdependence of present and past events, of memory and perception, and of collective memory and architectural experience.

Tondelli opens his Un weekend postmoderno. Cronache dagli anni Ottanta declaring an intention opposite to the display of amnesia. In the long table of contents of his book, he writes down everything, in an excruciating streaming of details, so that the table of content becomes an exhaustive index of names and ideas. Yet, hidden within the hundreds of analytical snapshots, one of its many characters mentions the importance of dissimulation.
