The purpose of this study was to explore college students’ perceptions towards understanding their health insurance. Specific objectives were to explore students’ attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control toward understanding their health insurance, and to examine how these three factors impact students’ intention to seek health insurance information. A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 400 participants using a paper and pencil survey method. Study participants consisted of undergraduate students at St. John’s University who were capable of reading and understanding English. Results of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP; National Center for Education Statistics, 2020) have shown that despite efforts to raise the literacy skill levels of students in elementary school, the average reading scores for fourth-grade students in 2019 were still cause for concern. The NAEP data showed the reading scores in four percentiles (i.e., 10th, 25th, 50th, and 75th) from 2019 dropped in comparison with the corresponding data garnered in 2017 (National Center for Education Statistics, 2020). This qualitative study investigated teachers’ perceptions of their own writing abilities and processes, the adequacy of their pre-service teacher preparation, and the efficacy of in-service, school system and school building-level support, and how each of these components affected the educator’s aptitude to teach students in grade six through eight how to write effectively. The number of English Language Learner students (ELLs) has increased within the United States while the number of qualified teachers for these students has decreased. Students’ outcomes are related to the quality of education they receive. A teacher’s knowledge of and preparation for teaching ELLs influences students’ performance. The purpose of the current mixed method study was to determine whether there were statistically significant relationships between teacher perceptions of student acceptance of individual responsibility at school and (a) student gender, (b) student grade level, (c) student socio-economic status, (d) teacher gender, (e) number of years of teaching experience, and (f) teacher access to adequate resources to support students.
