Mrsa Decolonization: Infection Prevention For Total Hip And Total Knee Arthroplasty, Laurel Jean Chelstrom

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Staphylococcal carriage, particularly Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), is a risk factor for surgical site infection (SSI). The purpose of this project was to determine whether adult patients undergoing total hip and total knee arthroplasty could be successfully decolonized of MRSA beginning on the day of surgery, and if decolonization would reduce surgical site infection (SSI) rates.

The study employed two theoretical frameworks: Nola Pender’s Health Promotion Model and Kurt Lewin’s Change Theory. The sample consisted of 50 patients, 10 cases and 40 controls, selected from a convenience sample of 299 patients who underwent total hip or total knee arthroplasty from …

Nothing To Remember Except The Story: How The Ethical Will Inspires Authentic Leadership, Andrew J. Mcilree Dec 2013

Nothing To Remember Except The Story: How The Ethical Will Inspires Authentic Leadership, Andrew J. Mcilree

Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership Theses

The focus of this Leadership Action Project is to explore how the ethical will can inspire authentic leadership. Authentic Leadership theory is predicated on the growth of self-knowledge and self-awareness in a leader. These twin notions, developed through practical experience and lifelong reflection, inform a leader’s legacy of values, beliefs, and behavior. Due to the immediacy of daily challenges, modern leaders often lack the presence of mind to reflect on their crucible experiences and practical wisdom. As a result of this lack of contemplation, these leaders do not extract as much self-knowledge and self-awareness from their personal ethical legacies. The …

The Convergence Of Hierarchical Management And Project Management And How It Impacts Organizational Outcomes, Lisa J. Dahle

Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership Theses

In many organizations two managerial disciplines who are co-leading a common organizational initiative: hierarchical management and project management. This thesis studied the impacts of dual management of a single initiative. It was found that this convergence of management disciplines is happening while there is dramatic growth of project management as a profession and in an environment where hierarchical management is being constantly restructured. Many organizational ecosystem variables, including globalization and technological advances, further exacerbate the already challenging collaboration required to co-lead a single organizational initiative. There is large body of existing tools and knowledge to facilitate successful outcomes for organizational …
