Behavioral Comparisons Of Maltreated Children, Sharla J. Schneider
Behavioral Comparisons Of Maltreated Children, Sharla J. Schneider
Honors Theses
The behavioral and cognitive differences among sexually abused children were investigated. A total of 19 Child Behavior Checklists were evaluated for distinguishing factors on the Internalizing, Externalizing, Attention Problems, and Thought Problems scales. First, the subjects were placed into two groups, those who had been victims of sexual abuse (SA) and those who had been victims of SA plus Other maltreatment (e.g., neglect, physical abuse, etc.). Only three subjects were found to be in the SA plus Other maltreatment group, so three subjects from the SA only group were selected for comparison based on age and sex. All were females …

Getting Around The Problem... A Look At The Use Of "Around" Constructions In Kalabari, Jacqueline L. Lilly
Getting Around The Problem... A Look At The Use Of "Around" Constructions In Kalabari, Jacqueline L. Lilly
Honors Theses
This work investigates English constructions that employ the preposition "around" in relation to the Kalabari equivalents of these expressions. The work begins with a general discussion of the Kalabari language, and moves to a short talk about prototype theory. Pertinent data sets are then presented in both English and Kalabari. These data serve to support the author's assumptions concerning stem forms and phonological changes within the Kalabari semantic network for "around' constructions, which are presented in the next section. Finally, I the author arrives at conclusions concerning constraints present in "around" constructions, and relates this to some universals presented in …
Dissociation And Sexual Abuse: A Stuy Of 95 Students, Leslie Paris
Dissociation And Sexual Abuse: A Stuy Of 95 Students, Leslie Paris
Honors Theses
The current study investigated the connection between dissociative behaviors and childhood sexual abuse and adult sexual abuse. Dissociative behaviors were measured using the Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES; Putnam and Bernstein, 1985). Although research drawing a connection between such dissociative disorders as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Multiple Personality Disorder are cited, this study fails to find any significant correlation between DES scores of subjects and histories of sexual abuse. The investigator continues on to discuss alternative explanations for the discrepancy between this study and the findings of those studies cited.

Adult Victims Of Sexual Abuse And Their Sexuality, June E. Starr
Honors Theses
The differences between adult victims of child sexual abuse and non-abused females were determined by using specific questions taken from Finkelhor's Sexual Victimization questionnaire. The results indicated that the abused group was more likely to have problems with sexual performance, sexual self esteem, and sexual identity, and have more feeling of guilt or shame.
