The Economic And Social Values Associated With Small South Dakota Lakes, Aaron Patrick Sundmark
The Economic And Social Values Associated With Small South Dakota Lakes, Aaron Patrick Sundmark
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The valuation of small fishing lakes is a vital component in understanding the importance of fishing and of recreational resources, in general. Knowing the values associated with such lakes is essential when prioritizing management activities. The overall value of a lake as a resource for human benefit is estimated as the summation of both instrumental and non-instrumental values. Instrumental values consist of economic and utilitarian values, as well as the values that a lake provides from ecosystem services. Non-instrumental values consider what the lake is worth as a good of its own, such as aesthetic, moral, and spiritual values gained …
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program And Childcare, Kyle Kopplin
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program And Childcare, Kyle Kopplin
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This paper attempts to analyze the effects of subsidized food dollars on the amount of daily childcare in households. More specifically, households in the low income category are of interest because they are the most likely to receive food subsidies. There has been a political debate recently in the United States which argues over the appropriate level of subsidies, if any. More importantly, food insecurity is an issue in the world; many do not know where will the next meal come from. This paper provides statistical evidence that food subsidies in the form of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) …

Forage Shortages … Low Milk Prices … And How To Beat Them, Alvaro Garcia
Forage Shortages … Low Milk Prices … And How To Beat Them, Alvaro Garcia
SDSU Extension Extra Archives
As a result of the drought, forage quality is poor and not much is available. Grain is in short supply. So it should come as no surprise that the laws of supply and demand are at work and that prices for both types of feed have almost doubled since last year. At the same time, dairy cow numbers and individual cow production in the 20 leading states are on the rise, pushing the price of milk to its lowest point in decades. Dairy producers may need to consider some new options.

Evaluating Consumer Acceptability And Willingness To Pay For Various Beef Chuck Muscles, A.C. Kukowski, R.J. Maddock, D.M. Wulf, G.L. Taylor
Animal Science Faculty Publications
In-home consumer steak evaluations, followed by centralized laboratory-setting auctions, were used to determine consumer (n = 74 consumers) acceptability and willingness to pay for various beef chuck muscles. The infraspinatus (IF), serratus ventralis (SV), supraspinatus (SS), and triceps brachii (TB) from the beef chuck were evaluated against LM steaks from the rib to determine price and trait differentials. Muscles from USDA Choice, boneless, boxed-beef subprimals were aged 14 d, frozen, and cut into 2.5-cmthick steaks. Consumers received two steaks from each muscle for in-home evaluations of uncooked steak appearance and cooked steak palatability. After in-home evaluation of steaks, consumers participated …
Random Walks, Lemmings, And Behaviorism; The Search For A Market Lodestar, John Sondey
Random Walks, Lemmings, And Behaviorism; The Search For A Market Lodestar, John Sondey
Economics Staff Paper Series
Random Walk: Burton Malkiel defines a random walk as "one in which future steps or directions cannot be predicted on the basis of past actions." Within the context of the stock market, a random walk for a stock's price means that it is as likely to fall as to rise, regardless of previous price performance (Malkiel, 1996). To hold the random walk hypothesis as truth is to foresake all punditry regarding fundamental and technical analysis and to abandon long-standing shibboleths such as evolving industries and sectoral rotation. Essentially, random walk implied that "winners" could not consistently be picked. The Wall …

An Update On Retained Ownership: Case Study Of Calves Born At The Antelope Range Livestock Station, D. M. Marshall
South Dakota Beef Report, 1992
An update to a previous report on the case history of retained ownership in the Antelope Range Livestock Station herd is provided. Calves born in 1990 and 1991 were placed in a custom feedlot following weaning and the profitability of postweaning feedlot performance was estimated. Retaining ownership through slaughter, as opposed to selling calves at weaning, resulted in additional estimated profits of $51.27 and $107.82 per head (excluding interest on calf) for the 1990-born and 1991-born calf crops, respectively.
