The relative performance of grain sorghum cultivars grown under similar environmental conditions is evaluated in this report for the 1986 crop season. Performance records of all entries harvested in 1986 and the available two-through four-year averages are presented. The trials were conducted under the Plant Science Department program in Crop Performance Testing, Agricultural Experiment Station, South Dakota State University.

The relative performance of corn hybrids grown under similar environmental conditions in 1986 are evaluated in this report. Information in the accompanying tables includes grain yields in bushels per acre, moisture percentages of either ear corn or shelled corn at harvest, performance scores and other related information. Records of the corn hybrids harvested in 1986 and available two-, three- and four-year averages of yield, moisture and stalk lodging percentages are also presented. The trials reported here were conducted under the Plant Science Department program in Crop Performance Testing, Agricultural Experiment Station, SDSU.

Optimal farm machinery complements were developed, using mixed-integer programming techniques, for several farm sizes, cropping patterns and different methods of financing (lease and credit-purchase). Financing methods did not affect machinery complement selection but did have an impact on farm profitability and cash flow.

Land Prices: An Estimate Based On The Capitalized Value Approach, Brian Schmiesing, Julie Bleyhl

The paper provides a detailed discussion of how the land bid prices were estimated. First, a description of the farm and its cost structure is provided. Second, the implications of the federal farm program to the revenues and costs of the farming operation are discussed. Third, the development of the farming operation's fixed cost estimates are presented. The final section presents the estimated land values and a discussion of the possible outlook for agricultural farm prices.
