The objective of this research was to investigate the impact of gentrification on the social networks and communities of LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) elderly people living in the San Francisco Bay Area. The expectation was that, due to the rising cost of living, people in elderly LGBTQ communities would be relocating; this would result in the fragmentation of support networks and community spaces. The purpose of the project was to examine if the identification of readiness for an advance care planning (ACP) discussion of elderly participants would enhance the outcomes of participants' satisfaction, improve the likelihood of having an ACP discussion and increase the completion rates of an advance directive (AD) document after an office visit.
