Providence, Rhode Island’s Fox Point Hurricane Gates are a valuable protection against storm surges and the city’s first line of defense. Built in response to the 1938 and 1954 Hurricane disasters, when Providence experienced flooding of up to eight feet, Fox Point has served the city well through several smaller hurricanes. The question, especially given what happened to New Orleans last year is: Should the gates be upgraded and replaced?

The Treaty of Peace between the State of Israel and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was signed at the southern border crossing of Wadi Araba on October 26, 1994. In September of 2000, the United Nations Millennium Summit produced a set of global goals known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). These goals were set to aide the world in ending poverty and hunger as well as take steps to provide worldwide education and healthcare. This paper specifically examines the affect of Goal 7 / Target 10, improving access to clean water and sanitation facilities – its connection to environmental sustainability, the difficulties of measuring success in each country, as well as the results (as of Spring 2006) of their efforts.
