A Study Of The Application Of Paper Spread Function Data To The Prediction Of Physical Dot Areas For Offset Lithography, Paul Lewis Dec 1986

A Study Of The Application Of Paper Spread Function Data To The Prediction Of Physical Dot Areas For Offset Lithography, Paul Lewis

Theses

This investigation was aimed at establishing a relationship between the optical spread function of four common printing stocks (cast coat, enamel gloss, enamel dull and ledger) and a Yule - Neilsen n value in predicting physical dot Area, for offset lithographic printing. Using an offset press each paper stock was printed with a test target containing common screen frequencies at percent dot areas from 5-90"/. and solid ink patches adjacent to each tint. Using planimetry and macrodensitometry, exact n values were calculated for comparison with the measured spread function of that same paper stock. No relationship between the optical spread …

A Cost And Performance Analysis Of The Three Electronic Communication Systems Currently In Use In The Printing And Publishing Industry, Susan Richards Dec 1986

A Cost And Performance Analysis Of The Three Electronic Communication Systems Currently In Use In The Printing And Publishing Industry, Susan Richards

Theses

This study describes and evaluates the three electronic graphic communication systems presently used by the printing and publishing industry. The author has selected generic system names for each of the systems. These are: System 1: Page Facsimile System 2: Character-Encoding System 3: Pixel Density-Map Page Facsimile systems are primarily used by newspaper publishers. The Character-Encoding and Pixel Density-Map systems are alternate methods primarily used by newsweekly magazine publishers. All three communication systems offer the user a means of transmitting editorial, and in some cases advertising pages, to remote printing facilities for manufacturing and distribution. Each electronic graphic communication system is …

An Exploration Of Triarylmethane Leucohydroxides, Mahin Sadrai Dec 1986

An Exploration Of Triarylmethane Leucohydroxides, Mahin Sadrai

Theses

To explore the possibilities of the potential use of photochromism of triarylmethane leucohydroxides and leucobisulfites , five leucohydroxides (see Table [5]) and five leucobisulfites were synthesized and two leucohydroxides and one leucobisulfite were investigated in a variety of solvents with different Brownstein Coefficients. Malachite green leucohydroxide and crystal violet leucohydroxide showed opposite behavior in the same basic solutions, while both of them were dramati cally affected by the change in solutions basicity. Photodegradation induced by repeated exposure (fatigue) manifested itself in the form of lower photo -induced optical density, with a constant halflife in malachite green leucohydroxide and in the …

A Detailed Measure Of Apparent Modulation Induced By Cornsweet Edges On A Digital Image Display System, Jeff Pelz Nov 1986

A Detailed Measure Of Apparent Modulation Induced By Cornsweet Edges On A Digital Image Display System, Jeff Pelz

Theses

A digital image display based system was designed and implemented to perform visual measurements of apparent modulation induced by the Cornsweet illusion. The system was used to examine the results reported on previous experiments designed to measure the modulation transfer function of the human visual system. The reported results of experiments performed by Dooley and Greenfield on induced modulation were examined, and data not reported in that work was collected on the range of modulations over which observers perceived linear images. The system developed has the flexibility to be adapted for many different types of experiments. Visual experiments involving human …

A Study On The Relationship Of Dark Reaction Of Diazo And Photopolymer Presensitized, Negative Working, Lithographic Plates With Temperature Relative Humidity, And Time, Kannan Adityan Sep 1986

A Study On The Relationship Of Dark Reaction Of Diazo And Photopolymer Presensitized, Negative Working, Lithographic Plates With Temperature Relative Humidity, And Time, Kannan Adityan

Theses

Dark reaction is a condition in which the plate acts as if it is exposed to a low level of active light, even though it is being stored in the dark. The Stouffer scale or the sensitivity guide is used to measure this dark reaction which takes place also as a result of high temperature and relative humidity. If there is much dark reaction taking place, more solid steps will show up on a negative working plate. For the purpose of this experiment diazo and photopolymer presensitised, negative working, lithographic plates were chosen. These plates were cut into small sections …

A Multiprocessor Distributed Debugger, David Blackman Aug 1986

A Multiprocessor Distributed Debugger, David Blackman

Theses

This thesis presents the design and implementation of a distributed debugger. The debugger was designed to support the debugging of a system containing multiple processors from a single debug console. The debugger implementation consists of host software which runs on a VAX minicomputer and target software which runs on Intel SDK-86 single board computers. The host and targets communicate using an RS-232 channel. The debugger supports breakpoints, disassembly of target code, symbolic reference of program procedures and variables, and download of Intel Object Module Format binary files.

A Study Of The Xerox Xns Filing Protocol As Implemented On Several Heterogenous Systems, Edward Flint Aug 1986

A Study Of The Xerox Xns Filing Protocol As Implemented On Several Heterogenous Systems, Edward Flint

Theses

The Xerox Network System is composed of heterogeneous processors connected across a variety of transmission media A series of protocols is defined to describe the communication mechanisms between system elements. One of these protocols, the Filing Protocol, defines a general purpose file management system. Current implementations of the protocol, although derived from the Xerox specification, fall short of providing the interconnectivity between elements desired in a heterogeneous network system. The definition of an easily implemented protocol subset that provides the common file system functions of retrieval, storage, enumeration/location and deletion is derived from experiences with several implementations. This definition and …

A Study And Systematic Data Collecting And Analysis Of Changes In Production Control System, Frank Adae Feb 1986

A Study And Systematic Data Collecting And Analysis Of Changes In Production Control System, Frank Adae

Theses

The purpose of this study is to measure the effective ness of a change in workflow in an order entry department of a forms manufacturing plant. The difference is measured between the original and the revised workflow systems to draw conclusions on a quantitative basis. The original workflow procedure was set up for the job ticket, composed of the paper work and the artwork, to travel together through the first six of nine operations in the order entry department. Then the artwork split from the paper work and was forwarded to the art department, where the mechanical artwork was created, …
