Natural Language Processing For Foreign Language Learning, Jacob Kausler Jan 2015

Natural Language Processing For Foreign Language Learning, Jacob Kausler

Honors Theses

This research presents novel algorithms which generate sentences in a natural language, using natural language generation techniques. The purpose of the algorithms is to benefit foreign language learning. As far as we can tell, ours is the first such research being done in the field. In creating the algorithms, we also developed a piece of software to showcase the work and allow testing by users. The main algorithm begins by generating sentence models by using one of two methods, namely modeled sentence generation and semantic sentence generation. Each of these have benefits and drawbacks, which the user must take into …

The Relationship Between Natural Law And Mosaic Law In Philo: His On Rewards And Punishments As A Case Study, Clark Whitney Jan 2014

The Relationship Between Natural Law And Mosaic Law In Philo: His On Rewards And Punishments As A Case Study, Clark Whitney

Honors Theses

Living from around 20 B.C. to A.D. 50, Philo of Alexandria, Egypt contributed to the fields of philosophy and religion. In fact, Philo is one of the most significant contributors to our understanding of Hellenistic Judaism and Middle Platonism.. By extension, our understanding of the New Testament (especially the Pauline epistles) is indebted to Philo, because a plethora of the New Testament writings were composed by Jews into Greek language. According to C.D. Yonge, very little is known about Philo's personal life except that he lived in Alexandria, Egypt and came from a family who was wealthy and prominent among …

Folly In The Garden: The Religious Satire Of Erasmus And Voltaire, John M. Beller Jan 2001

Folly In The Garden: The Religious Satire Of Erasmus And Voltaire, John M. Beller

Honors Theses

In his introductory editorial comments on Erasmus' letters, literary critic Robert M. Adams commented that "Like Voltaire, with whom it's commonplace to compare him, Erasmus was a prodigious correspondent." Erasmus and Voltaire shared much more than an affinity for writing letters. A list of their similarities reads much like one of those supposedly eerie lists of coincidences between the presidencies of Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. The dates of their respective births remain uncertain. Both may have been illegitimate during times when ancestry mattered a great deal, and neither was born noble. Both rose above their beginnings by means …

A Review Of "Oral Interpretation Of Biblical Literature" By Chloe Armstrong, Rita Lewis Dec 1971

A Review Of "Oral Interpretation Of Biblical Literature" By Chloe Armstrong, Rita Lewis

Honors Theses

Members of today's society, upon hearing the word Bible, immediately associated it with the Christian religion as its guide book, its creed, and its collection of doctrinal material. The term Bible is synonymous with the Holy Scriptures and the Word of God. In short, people of our culture, whether they themselves are Christians, view the Bible as a symbol of Christianity and its sole source of religious dogma.

However, besides its religious worth, the Bible also is universally considered an unrivaled compilation of timeless literature. Many scholars have attested to this fact, including Frederic Kenyon, who stated, "Apart from …

A Study Of Revelation, Ken Brown Jan 1969

A Study Of Revelation, Ken Brown

Honors Theses

Through the centuries man has felt a deep, innate thirst for an intimate relationship with the Infinite. Whether expressed in the ancient Babylonian mysteries of Tummez or in present-day "flower children," the thirst has driven the human soul to reach out and to touch the ultimate, to know that which holds command of all things. And though the human soul has continually sought, it has sought blindly and, at best, has gained only limited spiritual insight.

Christianity, however, is quite different from the various cults which have arisen because it is the result of the Infinite's search for man and …
