The Butter And Egg Man, Otterbein University Theatre And Dance Department

2003-2004 Season

The play's title, of course, is Broadwayese of the moment—a generic name for all those gentlemen who come trustingly to Gotham with bankrolls, bent upon either reckless expenditure or equally reckless investment. — From the dust jacket for the first edition of The Butter and Egg Man (Boni & Liveright, 1926)[

Where's (The) Computer Science In Service-Learning?, Pete Sanderson Oct 2003

Where's (The) Computer Science In Service-Learning?, Pete Sanderson

Mathematics Faculty Scholarship

Service-learning is a form of experiential learning that integrates classroom concepts with related community service. Computer science faculty and students stand to reap great benefit from the integration of service-learning practice and philosophy into curricula. Many faculty are already doing so, yet computer science is not very visible in the service-learning community. Similarly, service-learning is not very visible in the computer science education community. It is imperative for those computer science faculty involved in service-learning to develop, apply and disseminate effective frameworks for integrating service learning into undergraduate computer science curricula so that its benefits may be more fully realized.

Enemies Of Israel: Ruth And The Canaanite Woman, Glenna S. Jackson Sep 2003

Enemies Of Israel: Ruth And The Canaanite Woman, Glenna S. Jackson

Religion & Philosophy Faculty Scholarship

This article elaborates on the author’s monograph “Have mercy on me”: The story of the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15.21-28 (Sheffield: Sheffield Academic Press, 2002). According to the monograph, Matthew uses the Psalms, the story of Ruth and rabbinic tradition to turn Mark’s story of the Syrophoenician woman (7:24-30) into a conversion formula for entrance into the Jewish community. This article employs an intertextuality approach to enhance the theory of proselytism in Matthew’s gospel. The Canaanite woman passes a three-time rejection, one-time acceptance test that the first-century rabbis delineated from the story of Ruth for converting to Judaism.

Several sites have come online recently that index and catalog materials in a way similar to a library, providing additional information about each site. The official National Science Digital Library Web site has the potential to become a one-stop site for a wide range of educational science material.

Perilipin A Is Essential For The Translocation Of Hormone-Sensitive Lipase During Lipolytic Activation. J Cell Biol, John Tansey

Chemistry Faculty Scholarship

A key step in lipolytic activation of adipocytes is the translocation of hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) from the cytosol to the surface of the lipid storage droplet. Adipocytes from perilipin -null animals have an elevated basal rate of lipolysis compared with adipocytes from wild-type mice, but fail to respond maximally to lipolytic stimuli. This defect is downstream of the -adrenergic receptor–adenylyl cyclase complex. Now, we show that HSL is basally associated with lipid droplet surfaces at a low level in perilipin nulls, but that stimulated translocation from the cytosol to lipid droplets is absent in adipocytes derived from embryonic fibroblasts of …

Scapino!, Otterbein University Theatre And Dance Department

2002-2003 Season

Rave reviews from every critic on Broadway! With the first line of the play, we plunge into the situation as Octavio cries, "I am lost! I am ruined! What am I to do? My world is crumbling around me. Disaster after disaster!" Into this comes Scapino who states, "The good Lord has blessed me with quite a genius for clever ideas and inspired inventions which the less talented, in their jealousies, call deceits and trickery!" At one point, with the girl's father hiding in a huge sack, Scapino pretends to be a Japanese waiter shouting, "Ah so—Kung Fu—there is something …
