Examine Predictors Of Bmi Classification And Perception Of Overweght Status Of Caregivers Of Preschool Children, Beth H. Chopp
Examine Predictors Of Bmi Classification And Perception Of Overweght Status Of Caregivers Of Preschool Children, Beth H. Chopp
Health Services Research Dissertations
Since the 1970’s the rate of childhood obesity in the United States has tripled and now one in five school-aged children is obese (Ogden et al., 2016). The childhood obesity epidemic will have medical, social, economic implications for future generations. Risk factors for childhood obesity include genetics, food intake, and physical activity, maternal health during pregnancy, parental weight, maternal employment and sociodemographic influences. This study examined the relationship between caregiver misperception of their preschoolers’ overweight/obese weight status and possible predictors that may assist in future interventions. The study evaluated NHANES data of 1245 caregivers with a child under age five …
Current Barriers To Dental Care Of Virginia Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder (Asd), Sfair Alkhthami
Current Barriers To Dental Care Of Virginia Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder (Asd), Sfair Alkhthami
Dental Hygiene Theses & Dissertations
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the barriers to accessing professional dental care for Virginia children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as a mechanism for evaluating dental hygiene curricula. Methods: Data was collected via Qualtrics® from caregivers of one or more children with ASD who were part of Families of Autistic Children in Tidewater (FACT). The survey was distributed through FACT to all 200 members (N=200) via an email link, and a response rate of 28.5% (N=57) was obtained. Linear regression and logistic regression models were used to analyze data at the p=.05 level of significance. Results: …

Workplace Bullying: A National Survey Of Dental Hygienists, Savannah Dawn Sundburg
Dental Hygiene Theses & Dissertations
Problem: Workplace bullying in health care affects career satisfaction, career longevity and patient outcomes. The purpose of this study was to determine if bullying was occurring in dental hygiene employment settings as well as its prevalence in a convenience sample of dental hygienists.
Methods: After IRB approval, 1200 subscribers to a professional dental hygiene journal were invited to participate. Employing the validated Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised (NAQ-R), participants were asked to indicate how often they experienced 22 defined negative behaviors according to rate of occurrence (never, now and then or monthly, weekly or daily) over the past six months. Bullying was …
Asthma-Related Health Outcomes In New Jersey After A Natural Disaster Event, My Ngoc Thuy Nguyen
Asthma-Related Health Outcomes In New Jersey After A Natural Disaster Event, My Ngoc Thuy Nguyen
Health Services Research Dissertations
The occurrence of a natural disaster event such as a hurricane may further hinder the asthma management of asthmatic individuals. Unmanaged asthma has led to increased work absenteeism, preventable emergency department visits, costly hospitalizations and possibly death in severe cases. To improve asthma management in asthmatic adults in New Jersey (NJ) following a natural disaster event, this study examined whether predisposing, enabling and need factors are predictors for asthma exacerbation and asthma-related health care utilization in New Jersey. A retrospective secondary analysis of New Jersey Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (NJBRFSS) data and New Jersey Asthma Call Back Survey (NJACBS) …
Emergency Departments And Care For Marginalized Populations, Irvin B. Harrell
Emergency Departments And Care For Marginalized Populations, Irvin B. Harrell
Institute for the Humanities Theses
Healthcare providers in emergency departments (EDs) face a daunting daily task: providing health care in a triage setting to a diverse group of patients many with complex medical issues. Many patients rely on ED services out of financial necessity, when their healthcare issues could be better suited for care from a primary care physician. Many of these already vulnerable patients – minorities, those health illiterate, low-income, uninsured and those with language barriers – must also deal with ED overcrowding and staffing conditions. In some cases, patients leave without being seen while others face bed shortages. This study explores healthcare provider …
Examining Validity Of Aha! Ratings As A Construct Of Insight, Ekaterina Y. Shurkova
Examining Validity Of Aha! Ratings As A Construct Of Insight, Ekaterina Y. Shurkova
Psychology Theses & Dissertations
Currently, there are two main views on insightful problem solving. Results of the studies supporting “business-as-usual” theory suggest that the processes involved in solving insight problems are the same as in analytical problem solving—slow, controlled, and effortful, while findings of the studies supporting the restructuring theory of insight suggest involvement of fast and automatic, one-trial-learning type of processes. The goal of the current study was to investigate the construct validity of the Aha! ratings, used in many studies as the measure of insight, by isolating its three components, effort, confidence, and suddenness, and examining their correlation with working memory span. …

Expanding The Usage Of Web Archives By Recommending Archived Webpages Using Only The Uri, Lulwah M. Alkwai
Computer Science Theses & Dissertations
Web archives are a window to view past versions of webpages. When a user requests a webpage on the live Web, such as http://tripadvisor.com/where_to_t ravel/, the webpage may not be found, which results in an HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) 404 response. The user then may search for the webpage in a Web archive, such as the Internet Archive. Unfortunately, if this page had never been archived, the user will not be able to view the page, nor will the user gain any information on other webpages that have similar content in the archive, such as the archived webpage http://classy-travel.net. Similarly, …
