Developing A Critical Perspective Of Creative Agency In Digital Environments, Nicholas G. Leonard Dec 2018

Developing A Critical Perspective Of Creative Agency In Digital Environments, Nicholas G. Leonard

Student Projects

Previous understandings of creativity have focused on the individual, and digital technologies as static tools. Since then, our understanding of creativity has developed through a social psychology understanding to link creative behaviors to the environment. Digital technologies have also developed expodentially with the introduction of neural networks, deep learning, and artificial intelligence. By addressing the environment to support creative behaviors through a social psychology perspective while simultaneously breaking away from a traditional Instrumental Theory of Technology to view digital technologies as having agency, arguments can be made for critically reviewing our relationships with technology to better support creative behaviors though …

Digital Media Usage During The 2018 Midterm Elections Among Illinois State Senate Elections, Christine Wang

Honors Capstones

The objective of this research is to examine the role that digital media usage plays in elections, specifically the Illinois State Senate Elections during the 2018 midterms. This research argues that the use of multiple digital mediums can affect election percentages at the end of the campaign. Taking into account the fact that the target base of each campaign varies across Illinois, the greater usage of multiple digital mediums to reach voters will correlate with a positive rise in election percentage regardless of target base. This study examines the possibility that if the communication remains consistent in both messaging and …

This thesis explores the placement of animal remains in the Castledyke South Cemetery Site in Barton-on-Humber. The site itself was used by the Anglo-Saxons during the period of the late 5th or early 6th to the late 7th centuries. The major purpose of this paper is to analyze the possible influences that would have led them to bury their dead with animal remains as a type of mortuary artefacts. Age and sex, religion, social status, and economic importance are the analyzed influences, each relying on different sources. While most of the paper relies on archaeological evidence for its support, literary …

Surveying Research On The Teaching And Learning Of Conceptual Understanding Of Fraction Arithmetic, Sabreen Abedrabo Dec 2018

Surveying Research On The Teaching And Learning Of Conceptual Understanding Of Fraction Arithmetic, Sabreen Abedrabo

Honors Capstones

In the US, fractions are often taught in an incoherent way and fraction operations are taught without meaning. Reform efforts continue to try to improve this situation and many rich tools have been developed for teaching fraction computation with meaning. In particular, students need to be able to think of fractions as quantities and understand how operations like multiplication and division relate those quantities. To think about these operations coherently, students must be able to think of fractions themselves as units of which other fractions can be formed (e.g. 2/3 of 3/7). We will investigate which is known about student …

Creating Theatre: Historical Women's Stories For Here And Now, Abby M. Ferree

Honors Capstones

One of the most instinctual ideals of humanity is the necessity of sharing stories, past or fiction, to inform what we decide to do in the here and now. Storytelling is a part of all of us. It’s innate. As an actor, my role in storytelling is generally to be the sounding piece for the voices of others. I bring to life the story and the life of another person or character in order to bring new questions to light for my audience. However, as an actor, we rarely get to choose what stories are being told, and the gift …

The Future Of The #Metoo Movement, Lauren M. Clohessy

Honors Capstones

The current era of the Me Too movement started in 2016 when Alyssa Milano tweeted out a concept: for her Twitter followers to tweet using #MeToo if they were victims of sexual misconduct. The actual Me Too movement started over ten years ago with Tarana Burke, who founded the movement to advocate for young, black women who were victims of sexual misconduct. The two movements merged into one and is now the social media movement society knows today. With Me Too came a large amount of backlash, similar to any other social media movement, but the amount of backlash depends …

Kinesio tape is designed to provide support and stability to joints and muscles without impacting circulation and the body's range of motion. However, how does kinesiotape physically impact the pain and function of a patient with a musculoskeletal injury? If pain and function are positively influenced, is the improvement attributed to the KT treatment or is it a placebo effect? In the attempt to answer these questions, I performed a review of the literature. Criteria that I looked at while researching articles using PubMed was that they were written in English, studied the effects of KT on musculoskeletal injuries and …
