Kentucky Teacher Education Journal: The Journal of the Teacher Education Division of the Kentucky Council for Exceptional Children
Unfortunately, the onset of Covid-19 and the ensuing pandemic led to a shift in the structure of classrooms across all levels of the educational spectrum. The resulting move to more social distancing methods, including a combination of face-to-face and online formats, led to a need for innovative uses of technology. In this article, Nearpod is explored as an alternative way to present information while increasing engagement and inclusivity in the classroom. Research studies and reviews are scrutinized on the use of Nearpod as tool for teachers and pre-service teachers in K-12.

Memories From The Great War: An Analysis Of Jackson Purchase Veterans’ Changes In Perspective Since 1914, David Wallace
Honors College Theses
The First World War affected the lives of millions, creating collective memories of hardships, uncertainty, political tension, and animosity toward foreign enemies. In the United States, World War I was a turning point in the nation’s growth and development, but on a smaller scale it was a critical historical moment in the individual lives of the veterans who served. This research project showcases the experiences of the Jackson Purchase’s WWI veterans with an emphasis on their perceptions during the war, their reasons for enlisting, the countless once-in-a-lifetime experiences they had along the way, the hardships they faced, and the remarkable …

Andrew Jackson And The Indian Removal Act Of 1830 Personal Agenda Or Territorial Expansion, Austin Valentine
Andrew Jackson And The Indian Removal Act Of 1830 Personal Agenda Or Territorial Expansion, Austin Valentine
Student Scholarship & Creative Works
For well over a century, historians have pondered Andrew Jackson’s motivation behind the Indian Removal Act of 1830. Was Andrew Jackson’s decision for a massive social cleansing of Native Americans motivated by a personal agenda or by American calls for westward expansion?
Through a brief analysis of Andrew Jackson’s long and winding road to the White House, I hope to shed light on Andrew Jackson and his call for the forced removal of Native American inhabitants residing east of the Mississippi River. With such, I hope to give the reader a better understanding of Jackson’s attitude, military strategies, calls for …

"Ever True And Loyal:" Mary Todd Lincoln As A Kentuckian, Andrew Landreth
"Ever True And Loyal:" Mary Todd Lincoln As A Kentuckian, Andrew Landreth
Scholars Week
This paper considers Mary Todd Lincoln from the perspective of her relationship with her home state of Kentucky. Utilizing her own writings and those of her contemporaries, as well as secondary studies, this paper argues that Mary Todd Lincoln's life and relationships embodied many of the same contradictions of her home state and that important aspects of her public and private life were influenced by her upbringing in antebellum Kentucky. Particular emphasis is placed on her views of slavery and on her relationship with the Todd family during the Civil War.

In the pages that follow are partial manuscripts. Kentucky and Tennessee imply their influence throughout the collection, while feminist ideology shapes the central themes. In the first work, we explore the world of willow, and willow artists of Kentucky.
Second, I present a selection of poems investigating the life of Austrian-American artist, Victor Hammer. Hammer was a long-term visiting artist at Transylvania University and began the Lexington private press movement that still thrives today.
Third, are poems taken from my own experiences. Finally, a short story that focuses on dysfunctional family, and self-realization.

Ruth Harris: Under The Prairie Moon, Mary Hays
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
Ruth Harris: Under the Prairie Moon is rooted in the rural Illinois landscape and its communities. The stories follow Ruth from childhood to old age and offer multiple viewpoints on fidelity, home, forgiveness, and finally, love. Focus on one character through a lifetime allows perspective to shift as she ages.

Women Who Kill: An Analysis Of Cases In Late Eighteenth- And Early Nineteenth-Century London, Kathy Callahan
Women Who Kill: An Analysis Of Cases In Late Eighteenth- And Early Nineteenth-Century London, Kathy Callahan
Faculty & Staff Research and Creative Activity
In late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century London, the number of women prosecuted for murder was quite small with only forty women reaching the felony court at the Old Bailey for trial between 1783 and 1815. Despite the small number of prosecutions, the cases do reveal important information about gender and criminal justice. Accusations demonstrate difficulties women had with a wide range of interpersonal relationships, their lives in the city, in addition to domestic and substance abuse. Sentencing patterns, too, are illuminating. For those women found guilty, the courts often hesitated to convict to the fullest extent of the law. Juries …

Forever Changed: The Transformation Of Rural America Through Immigration, Maha N. Younes Ph.D., Elizabeth A. Killip
Forever Changed: The Transformation Of Rural America Through Immigration, Maha N. Younes Ph.D., Elizabeth A. Killip
Contemporary Rural Social Work Journal
This qualitative case study reveals the impact of immigration on one rural Midwestern community and its longtime residents. The 123 phone interviews and sessions conducted with two focus groups provide compelling insights into residents’ perceptions of immigration and immigrants as well as their ensuing personal and collective struggle with and adaptation to an immigration process that forever changed the community. The residents offer prudent insights for policy makers, immigrants, and other communities facing similar challenges. While the focus of the study is on the macro conversion of the community through the eyes of its residents, the author stresses the need …
