This presentation will illustrate the innovative, specialized educational technologies developed and implemented at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Technologies include Tech-Rec, a first of its kind integration of technology and recreation that exercises the mind and body; the Dental Lab, with individualized computers at each dental chair, inter-oral cameras, and digital radiography; and the Library PODS.

Ratemyprofessors.com (RMP) is a database that allows students to voice and share their opinions about their university and college teachers. The evaluation website allows students to rate their teachers after the student identifies the class, the level of interest the student has in the class, and the date they are posting the evaluation. They can rate the professors on difficulty, helpfulness, and clarity and post general comments. Online since 1999, RateMyProfessors now contains over 4,200,000 ratings for professors from 5242 schools. Students do use this source, but should they? Participant Reactions To Two-Way Immersion (Twi) Programs, Brett Frayseth, Carrie Lewis Miller, James Livermont, Melissa Siebke

The purpose of this study was to elicit participant reactions to two-way immersion (TWI) programs in the United States of America. A large number of recent studies have focused on instructor views and perspectives of two-way immersion programs, so this study aimed to gain insight from students who are, or who have, participated in TWI programs throughout North America.

One hundred fifty-one TWI schools throughout the United States were contacted and asked to participate in this study. Two similar surveys were developed, one for current TWI students, and another for former TWI students. Students from these two groups were asked …

Distinguishing Motive Through Perception Of Emotions, Robert G. Jones, Michelle Chomiak, Andrea L. Lassiter, Teresa Green

The question of whether people use perceived expressions of emotion to infer motive is tested in this study. Naïve observers viewed target subjects performing a simple «tower building» task under more or less motivating conditions. Observers ranked target effort levels and ticked emotions displayed of four targets. Motive rankings matched target motive conditions well. Emotion checklist scores also showed high accuracy when compared with target self-reports of emotions experienced. Regression showed that most of the variance in motivation ratings was accounted for by emotions observed.
