Karyology Of Lower Teleost Fishes (Clupeiformes, Taxonomy, Elopiformes, Phylogeny)., Albert John Doucette Jr Jan 1985

Karyology Of Lower Teleost Fishes (Clupeiformes, Taxonomy, Elopiformes, Phylogeny)., Albert John Doucette Jr

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Karyotypes of nine species (Megalops atlanticus, Elops saurus, Brevoortia patronus, B. smithi, B. tyrannus, Dorosoma cepedianum, D. petenense, Harengula clupeola, and Anchoa mitchilli) and one hybrid (B. smithi x B. tyrannus) of teleost fishes revealed diploid complements ranging from 28 to 50 chromosomes and comprised of uniarmed elements or combinations of uniarmed and small and large biarmed elements. The occurance of large metacentric-submetacentric chromosomes was usually associated with a reduction in total chromosome number suggesting fusion events in the evolution of karyotypes from ancestral complements with 48 to 52 acrocentrics. Information from karyotypes is used to characterize species, genera, and …

Biochemical Systematics Of The Tyrannoidea (Aves) (Electrophoresis, Jackknifing, Phylogenetic Trees, Consensus Methods)., Scott Merrill Lanyon Jan 1985

Biochemical Systematics Of The Tyrannoidea (Aves) (Electrophoresis, Jackknifing, Phylogenetic Trees, Consensus Methods)., Scott Merrill Lanyon

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

The superfamily Tyrannoidea (Aves) has been the subject of numerous systematic investigations, yet the relationships among and within the five component families remain ambiguous. Relationships within the superfamily were investigated using starch gel electrophoresis of 20 enzyme loci in 14 cotinga genera, 12 manakin genera, the flycatcher genus Myiarchus, and each of the genera from the monogeneric families Phytotomidae and Dxyruncidae. Electrophoretic characters were found to contain considerable information concerning familial and subfamilial relationships within this New World assemblage. The Fitch-Margoliash "jackknife strict consensus tree" and a cladogram generated from the character state distributions were very similar and were used …

The Impact Of Individual Species And Complexes Of Pest Arthropod Species On Soybean Grown On Various Row Spacings (Insect Pest Complexes, Non-Conventional Row Spacing)., Jaime Yanes Jr Jan 1985

The Impact Of Individual Species And Complexes Of Pest Arthropod Species On Soybean Grown On Various Row Spacings (Insect Pest Complexes, Non-Conventional Row Spacing)., Jaime Yanes Jr

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

During 1982 and 1983, selective soil and foliar insecticides were applied to soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merrill, planted on narrow (51 cm) and wide (76 cm) row spacings to manipulate soybean insects. Individual species and complexes of arthropod species were manipulated in plots to determine the effects of subterranean and above-ground insects on soybean growth and yield potential. Selective insecticides used in a selective manner proved to be an effective tool for studying insect pest complexes. Sub-threshold levels of individual pest species, in combination, had a significant negative impact on yield. In addition, in 1982, the plots in which soybean …

Host Responses To The Phenolic-Glycolipid-1 Antigen Of Mycobacterium Leprae (Elisa, Leprosy, Epidemiology, Armadillo, Human)., Richard W. Truman Jan 1985

Host Responses To The Phenolic-Glycolipid-1 Antigen Of Mycobacterium Leprae (Elisa, Leprosy, Epidemiology, Armadillo, Human)., Richard W. Truman

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Antibody responses to the apparently species specific phenolic-glycolipid-1 (Phen-Gl-1) antigen of Mycobacterium leprae were examined in humans and armadillos using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). Statistical definitions for the interpretation of positive and negative reactions were derived. A retrospective serological survey of armadillos indicated that leprosy in the wild armadillo is a naturally acquired zoonosis. Presently 12.5% of the armadillos in 2 parishes in south central Louisiana have detectable IgM antibodies to Phen-Gl-1. Approximately 2.7% of these histologically exhibit clinical disease. Antibodies were not detected in Florida armadillo sera. Variations in prevalence rates were noted, and may be due to environmental …

Studies On The Molecular Cloning Of A Gene For Aryletherase From A Ligninolytic Erwinia Sp. (Lignin, Biodegradation, Bacterial)., Kenneth Edwin Narva Jan 1985

Studies On The Molecular Cloning Of A Gene For Aryletherase From A Ligninolytic Erwinia Sp. (Lignin, Biodegradation, Bacterial)., Kenneth Edwin Narva

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Recombinant DNA techniques were utilized to clone a gene from the ligninolytic system of a saprophytic Erwinia sp. into Escherichia coli using pBR322 as a vector. The cloned gene encodes aryletherase activity and was selected from amp('r) tet('S) transformants of E. coli Cs412 using salicin as the selective carbon source. This compound has structural characteristics similar to some lignin model compounds. The cloned gene enclodes activity which oxidizes aromatic lignin model compounds resulting ultimately in the breakage of arylether bonds while leaving the aromatic nucleus intact. At least one lower molecular weight aromatic compound is also released from kraft lignin …

Epidemiology And Economic Implications Of Anaplasmosis In Louisiana (Prevalence, Incidence)., Randall Scott Morley Jan 1985

Epidemiology And Economic Implications Of Anaplasmosis In Louisiana (Prevalence, Incidence)., Randall Scott Morley

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

The research consisted of a literature review of the epidemiology of anaplasmosis and a descriptive epidemiological study of anaplasmosis in the Red River Plains and Southeast areas of Louisiana. The prevalence of anaplasmosis assessed by indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) testing of 11,085 serum samples that had been obtained from cattle located in the study areas was 7.8%. Beef cattle appeared to show a higher Anaplasma antibody prevalence than dairy cattle, that is 11.2% to 3.8%, respectively. Among breeds, the Angus and Angus-cross animals seemed to show an increased susceptibility to infection. The prevalence of infection in free-roaming deer was determined …

Antigenic Diversity And Cultural Behavior Of Chlamydia Psittaci Of Mammalian Origin (Chlamydial Abortion, Elisa, Persistent Infection, Immunofluorescence, Diagnosis)., Jorge Alejandro Perez-Martinez Jan 1985

Antigenic Diversity And Cultural Behavior Of Chlamydia Psittaci Of Mammalian Origin (Chlamydial Abortion, Elisa, Persistent Infection, Immunofluorescence, Diagnosis)., Jorge Alejandro Perez-Martinez

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Suspension cultures of L-cells were infected with strains representing different biotypes of Chlamydia (C.) psittaci of bovine, ovine, caprine, equine, feline, porcine and guinea pig origin. Biotype-1 chlamydiae multiplied to high titers, and high yields of infectivity were obtained in subsequent passages. Chlamydial strains representative of other biotypes did not infect suspension cultures efficiently. Low rates of infection were obtained on the first passage, and the infectivity was lost while attempting subpassages. L-cells inoculated in suspension with more than one inclusion forming unit/L-cell of the chlamydial strain B577 and allowed to form monolayers, were destroyed within 15 days. However, upon …

Influence Of Vegetation Manipulation And Selected Cultural Practices On Predation In Louisiana Sugarcane Ecosystems (Saccharum, Sorghum, Solenopsis, Spiders, Araneae)., Ahmed Daoud Ali

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

A 3-yr study on southeastern Louisiana sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L. 'CP 65-357') revealed abundance and diversity of both ground- and foliage-associated predators and prey to be higher in weedy than in weed-free habitats. The imported fire ant (IFA), Solenopsis invicta Buren, major predator of the key insect pest, the sugarcane borer, Diatraea saccharalis (F.) , was more abundant in weedy (17 mounds/ha) than in weed-free (5 mounds/ha) habitats. Azinphosmethyl, commonly used for D. saccharalis control, decreased system stability through food web route disruption by decreasing coleopterans, phytophagous insects collectively, and spiders 51, 35, and 67%, respectively. Cane and sugar yields …

The Distribution, Transport And Age Structure Of Drums (Family Sciaenidae) Spawned In The Winter And Early Spring In The Continental Shelf Waters Off West Louisiana (Transit Time, Length-Frequency, Morphology, Density)., James Howard Cowan Jr

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Aspects of the early life history of 6 species of sciaenids that spawned in west Louisiana shelf waters from December 1981 to April 1982 were studied. This research documented the distribution of larvae and tested a transport hypothesis that detailed advective processes which affected their distribution and, ultimately, recruitment into estuaries in southwest Louisiana, and provided information on larva age and growth. Ranked in order of abundance the six sciaenid species collected were: sand seatrout (Cynoscion arenarius); Atlantic croaker (Micropogonias undulatus); spot (Leiostomus xanthurus); black drum (Pogonias cromis); southern kingfish (Menticirrhus americanus; and banded drum (Larimus fasciatus). Atlantic croaker, spot …

The Behavioral Ecology Of The First Instar Southern Green Stink Bug, Nezara Viridula (L.) (Aggregation, Pheromone, Embryo, Egg, Nymph)., Jeffrey Alan Lockwood Jan 1985

The Behavioral Ecology Of The First Instar Southern Green Stink Bug, Nezara Viridula (L.) (Aggregation, Pheromone, Embryo, Egg, Nymph)., Jeffrey Alan Lockwood

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Outer row embryos of the southern green stick bug, Nezara viridula (L.), orient toward the center of the egg mass; inner row embryos do not. Embryonic orientation was mediated by stimuli provided by the glue which holds the egg mass together. Physical and chemical orientation cues associated with the glue were present only on the inner surfaces of outer row eggs; other eggs received no such differential stimuli and therefore oriented as a function of the oviposition behavior of the female. Embryonic orientation assured that upon hatching, outer row nymphs received the stimulation necessary for arrestment and inclusion in the …

Characterization Of The Modified Phagocytic Vacuole Occupied By Intracellular Toxoplasma Gondii (Macrophage, Protozoa)., L. David Sibley Jan 1985

Characterization Of The Modified Phagocytic Vacuole Occupied By Intracellular Toxoplasma Gondii (Macrophage, Protozoa)., L. David Sibley

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Toxoplasma gondii is a protozoan parasite which resides in modified endocytic compartments of host cells. Extensive intracellular replication and host cell lysis leads to acute toxoplasmosis which is eventually limited by the host immune response to a chronic state of infection. The features of this unique intracellular compartment, which enables Toxoplasma to survive in macrophages, are reported here. Although Toxoplasma survives in normal macrophages, activated macrophages from immune animals rapidly killed Toxoplasma by production of oxygen radicals and intermediates generated during parasite invasion. In addition, activated macrophages inhibited Toxoplasma growth by an oxygen-independent mechanism. Qualitative and quantitative features of oxygen …

Production And Nitrogen Dynamics Of A Vallisneria Americana Grass Bed In Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana (Nitrogen Cycle, Modeling, Seagrasses, Decomposition Phenology, Vallisneria-Celery Grass-Eelgrass, Environmental Factors)., Diana Lee Steller Jan 1985

Production And Nitrogen Dynamics Of A Vallisneria Americana Grass Bed In Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana (Nitrogen Cycle, Modeling, Seagrasses, Decomposition Phenology, Vallisneria-Celery Grass-Eelgrass, Environmental Factors)., Diana Lee Steller

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Vallisneria americana grass beds of Lake Pontchartrain contribute approximately 200 g dry weight/m('2)/yr primary production, a continuous release of detrital material, and rapid nutrient recycling. A harvest method was used to estimate production. The addition of litterfall to harvest production raised annual production estimates by up to 28%. When litterfall was corrected for decomposition, the production estimates were raised by up to 85% over harvest estimates alone. Litterfall and decomposition increased toward shore and occurred throughout the year providing a continuous supply of energy and nutrients. Grass bed production varied along the coastline and was greatest at mid-depths. Values of …

Africanized And European Honey Bee (Apis Mellifera L.) Pollen And Nectar Foraging Behavior And Honey Production In The Neotropics (Venezuela)., Daniel Pesante Jan 1985

Africanized And European Honey Bee (Apis Mellifera L.) Pollen And Nectar Foraging Behavior And Honey Production In The Neotropics (Venezuela)., Daniel Pesante

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

A one year study was conducted on pollen collection, nectar foraging, and honey production of Africanized and European honey bees in the neotropics (Venezuela). Africanized bees had a larger proportion of their foraging force foraging for pollen and therefore collected significantly larger quantities of pollen. This higher amount of collected pollen provides the protein necessary to support increased brood production and thereby increases the opportunities for Africanized colonies to cast multiple swarms through an annual cycle. Distinctly different patterns in nectar foraging by Africanized and European bees were detected. Africanized bees had lower proportions of the foraging force engaged in …

The Population Ecology And Nutrient Transport Of Gulf Menhaden In Fourleague Bay, Louisiana (Mortality, Growth, Feeding, Production, Migration)., Linda Ann Deegan Jan 1985

The Population Ecology And Nutrient Transport Of Gulf Menhaden In Fourleague Bay, Louisiana (Mortality, Growth, Feeding, Production, Migration)., Linda Ann Deegan

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

An ecological study of the young-of-the-year of three year-classes of gulf menhaden (Brevoortia patronus) was conducted from July 1981 to December 1983 in Fourleague Bay, Louisiana. This study documented gulf menhaden population ecology and the importance of gulf menhaden in the nutrient and energy balance of estuaries. Young-of-the-year gulf menhaden immigrated in winter and moved to tidal creeks and ponds, where they remained until midsummer. They then moved into open bays, where they remained until the fall. This migration pattern coincides with sequentially available, but spatially separate, productivity peaks in marsh and open bays. In the fall, they emigrated to …

Metabolic Responses Of The Estuarine Gastropod Thais Haemastoma To Hypoxia (Energy Charge, Opine Dehydrogenase,Survival, Adaptation, Respiration)., Martin A. Kapper Jan 1985

Metabolic Responses Of The Estuarine Gastropod Thais Haemastoma To Hypoxia (Energy Charge, Opine Dehydrogenase,Survival, Adaptation, Respiration)., Martin A. Kapper

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

The hypoxia tolerance (LC-50) of Thais haemastoma was inversely related to acclimation temperature but was not related to acclimation salinity between 10 and 30(DEGREES)C and 10 and 30('o)/ooS. T. haemastoma is moderately tolerant to anoxia, the LT-50 (time to 50% mortality) being 12-22 days. Oxyregulatory ability varies from poor to good, and varies inversely with temperature. The oxygen consumption rate was lower after 28 days exposure to hypoxic conditions than at full oxygen saturation at all salinities at 20 and 30(DEGREES)C. Oxygen consumption was low at 10(DEGREES)C regardless of ambient PO(,2). Oxyregulatory ability in T. haemastoma did not show acclimation …

Permethrin And Fenvalerate Hydrolysis In Pseudoplusia Includens (Walker) And Heliothis Virescens (F.)., Patrick Francis Dowd Jan 1985

Permethrin And Fenvalerate Hydrolysis In Pseudoplusia Includens (Walker) And Heliothis Virescens (F.)., Patrick Francis Dowd

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Fenvalerate, and cis- and trans-permethrin were hydrolyzed by eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults of P. includens and H. virescens. Hydrolysis (per larva) increased logarithmically to a maximum in last instars for the three pyrethroids in both insect species. trans-Permethrin hydrolysis was maximal in midguts, fat bodies, and cuticles of last instar P. includens in the late feeding stage. Changes in rates of hydrolysis appeared to influence toxicity. The midgut of both P. includens and H. virescens was generally the most active tissue in hydrolyzing the three pyrethroids tested. trans-Permethrin was generally hydrolyzed more rapidly than cis-permethrin or fenvalerate. cis- and …

Control, Dynamics, And Kinetics Of Gas Exchange At The Onset And Offset Of Treadmill Exercise In The Pony (Oxygen Deficit, Debt, Ventilatory, Isocapric Hyperprea, Blood)., Scotty Kline Powers Jan 1985

Control, Dynamics, And Kinetics Of Gas Exchange At The Onset And Offset Of Treadmill Exercise In The Pony (Oxygen Deficit, Debt, Ventilatory, Isocapric Hyperprea, Blood)., Scotty Kline Powers

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

The purpose of experiment one was to develop and validate an open circuit technique (OCT) employing a mixing-chamber for measurement of gas exchange during non-steady-state exercise in humans and ponies. Serial measurements of oxygen uptake ((')VO(,2)) using human subjects and ponies were made during rest to exercise transitions using the OCT incorporating a time delay to match mixed expired gas concentrations with the appropriate ventilatory volume. Oxygen uptake calculated by the OCT did not differ significantly (P > 0.05) from (')VO(,2) obtained by Douglas bag procedures. These data demonstrate that an OCT analysis system is a sensitive means of (')VO(,2) measurement …

Biology, Economic Injury, And Plant Resistance Studies With The Fall Armyworm, Spodoptera Frugiperda (J. E. Smith), On Rice, Oryza Sativa L. (Screening, Puerto Rico, Louisiana)., Alberto Pantoja-Lopez

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

A method for screening rice, Oryza sativa L., germplasm for resistance to the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith), was developed. Infesting rice seedlings grown in the greenhouse proved to be an efficient method to identify sources of resistance. In the evaluation of over 5,000 rice accessions, moderate resistance to S. frugiperda larval defoliation was detected in plant introductions 160842, 346830, 346833, and 346853. Moderate levels of resistance were also detected in the United States cultivars 'Honduras', 'Newrex', and 'Chinese'; and in O. glaberrima Steud accessions 101800, 102554, and 369453. Effects of S. frugiperda feeding on rice were studied …

The Biology Of Egg Production In The House Cricket, Acheta Domesticus L., Craig William Clifford Jan 1985

The Biology Of Egg Production In The House Cricket, Acheta Domesticus L., Craig William Clifford

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Oogenesis commenced on day 3 (day 0 = adult ecdysis) in Acheta domesticus L., which, based on degeneration of the flight muscles, was approximately when juvenile hormone was released. Starvation did not prevent the onset of oogenesis, although egg production was greatly reduced. Virgin females did not oviposit and the oviducts filled with eggs by day 15. Compaction appeared to be a factor limiting oogenesis. The digestive tract was compressed and feeding reduced, which might be the primary factors terminating oogenesis. The concentration of juvenile hormone esterase (JHE) did not change as virgins filled with eggs, which indicated that JHE …

Evaluation Of Romanomermis Culicivorax As A Biocontrol Agent Of Larval Mosquitoes In Louisiana Ricelands (Mermithidae, Nematode, Psorophora Columbiae, Parasitism)., Todd Warner Walker Jan 1985

Evaluation Of Romanomermis Culicivorax As A Biocontrol Agent Of Larval Mosquitoes In Louisiana Ricelands (Mermithidae, Nematode, Psorophora Columbiae, Parasitism)., Todd Warner Walker

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Bionomic data were collected to evaluate Romanomermis culicivorax as a biocontrol agent of larval mosquitoes in Louisiana ricelands. In laboratory studies, the ability of R. culicivorax preparasites to infect Psorophora columbiae larvae substantially decreased after hosts were approximately 28 hr old. Parasitism at typical Louisiana rice field temperatures of 26, 29, and 32 (+OR-) 0.5(DEGREES)C showed a significant linear decrease (P < 0.01) as the percentage of older larval instars increased at the times of exposure. These data emphasized the need for a synchronous field application of preparasites to challenge the rapidly developing early instars of Ps. columbiae. Based on those data, applications of postparasites to potential mosquito breeding habitats offer greater flexibility in larval mosquito control programs. A floating bioassay container, constructed of plastic pipe, 50 mesh screening, and 8 oz (0.24 liter) sample bottles, was developed to evaluate R. culicivorax postparasites in irrigated agricultural land. Applications of postparasites applied at dosage rates of 0.025 and 0.05 g/m('2) resulted in the establishment, recycling, and overwintering of R. culicivorax in a riceland habitat in southern Louisiana. Infection rates ranged from 0 to 54.1% during the 22 month study. There was no significant differences (P > 0.05) between dosage rates among the plots and parasitism of Ps. columbiae larvae held in the bioassay containers. Depth of oviposition by R. culicivorax was determined by using soil cores previously inoculated with postparasites. Romanomermis culicivorax was found to …

Inheritance Of Resistance To Sheath Blight In Long Grain Rice (Genetics, Fungus Disease)., Mamadou Goita

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

The inheritance of resistance to the sheath blight disease of rice (Oryza sativa L.), caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn, was studied using as parent lines four susceptible commercial varieties--Lebonnet, Labelle, Starbonnet and Leah, and three resistant lines: L201, RU7902185 and RU7902191. The parental lines, F(,2) and F(,3) progeny of each cross were inoculated when the seedlings were 35 days old using the isolate LR172, and then kept in a humidity chamber for two weeks. The infection level of each plant was evaluated using a 0-9 rating system where 0 indicates no symptoms and 9 indicates the most severe infection. Infection …

Molecular Studies Of Thamnophiine Snakes., Robin Lawson Jan 1985

Molecular Studies Of Thamnophiine Snakes., Robin Lawson

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Variation in alleles at gene loci encoding proteins was used to determine zoogeographic and evolutionary differentiation in thamnophiine snakes. Differentiation among populations within a species, among species within a genus, and among genera was investigated. In the southern banded water snake, Nerodia fasciata, analysis by F-statistics and genetic distances of allele frequencies indicated that extensive differentiation has occurred between those forms adapted to a saltwater environment (N. f. clarkii and N. f. compressicauda) and those adapted to a freshwater environment (N. f. fasciata, N. f. confluens, and N. f. pictiventris). Habitat disturbance is imputed as the causal agent in the …

Part I: Comparison Of An "As-Needed" And "Full-Season" Insecticide Application Schedule For Control Of Cotton Insects In Northeast Louisiana. Part Ii: The Utilization Of Vegetable Oil As A Carrier For Ultra-Low-Volume Aerial Sprays Applied For Cotton Insect Control., Henry Russ Mitchell

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

A small plot study to determine the effects of a "as-needed" and "full-season" insecticide regime on the major arthropods, growth, and yield of cotton was conducted over a three year period (1982-1984). In the "as-needed" regime, acephate (4 g/kg of seed) was applied as a seed treatment at planting and application of foliar insecticides were initiated when cotton insect pests reached the threshold level. In the "full-season" regime, aldicarb (0.05 kg/ha) was applied in-furrow at planting and application of foliar insecticides were initiated when squares reached 1/3 grown and continued on a six to seven day schedule throughout the season. …

Effect Of Anaerobic Root Environments On Fraxinus Pennsylvanica Marsh. And Quercus Nigra L., Billy John Good Jan 1985

Effect Of Anaerobic Root Environments On Fraxinus Pennsylvanica Marsh. And Quercus Nigra L., Billy John Good

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Responses of green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica Marsh.) and water oak (Quercus nigra L.) to anaerobic root environments were investigated. Initially, analytical methods pursuant to this objective were developed. An extraction solution containing DDT (dithio- threitol) and soluble polyvinylpyrrolidone proved best for oak ADH and protein recovery, while DTT and insoluble polyvinylpolypyroli- done were best for ash. A method for the control of the soil atmosphere surrounding intact roots was developed to study the effects of elevated CO(,2) in the anaerobic soil atmosphere of ash and oak seedlings. Ethanol, malate, ADH, ME (NADP-malic enzyme), CO(,2), and O(,2) within the root systems …

Natural Control And Spatial Distribution Of Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera Frugiperda) Within Louisiana Corn Fields., Forrest Lee Mitchell Jan 1985

Natural Control And Spatial Distribution Of Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera Frugiperda) Within Louisiana Corn Fields., Forrest Lee Mitchell

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Spatial distribution of fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith), (FAW) was studied in cornfields at the St. Gabriel Experiment Station in Louisiana from 1981 to 1983. Corn plants were sampled and FAW larvae counted and divided into categories of small, medium, and large for both single plant and five plant samples. Count data for each category by date were then fitted to Poisson, negative binomial, and Neyman type A distributions. Means and variances for each category by date were also analyzed with the Taylor Power law. Small larvae were more aggregated than the medium larvae which were more aggregated …
