In Louisiana, forestry is an $11 billion industry, and in 2012 forestry-related employment accounted for approximately 2 percent of all jobs in Louisiana.Therefore, the forestry and forest products industries make a substantial economic contribution to Louisiana.

Forest resources affect the economy at all levels, from wages and purchases in local economies to state-level payroll and income taxes. Therefore, there is widespread interest in effects of the forest products industry from local producers, landowners and multinational corporate entities and therefore political officials, as well. This study evaluates the importance of the forest products industry to the state’s economy.

This is the eighth in this series of reviews. This review focuses primarily on the Creoles. It also describes some multiracial groups with a historical presence, as well as the current trends in multiracial identity in the Gulf of Mexico region. Concentrated in coastal Louisiana, Creoles represent one of the larger and more well-known multiracial (or mixed-race) groups that have long histories in the region.

Agents and specialists of the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, as well as other agencies – both private and public – compiled the data. Their analysis focuses on the animal, forestry, fisheries, plant and wildlife commodities that comprise our vital agricultural industry. Agricultural and natural resource industries contribute significantly to our state’s economy with the potential for increased economic benefits and job creation through value-added processing in urban and rural communities throughout Louisiana.
