Of The New Calvary Baptist Church Laid On Sunday
The cornerstone laying at the new Calvary Baptist church on South Mulberry street attracted a large crowd of people Sunday afternoon. The ceremonies were dignified and impressive and met with great favor. Rev. Jones of Cleveland was secured by the local church as speaker of the day and his remarks were very well received. There were a large number of visitors present from Columbus and Cleveland. The following program was carried out:

Nearly 400 people gathered at the West High street bridge Sunday afternoon to witness the unusual spectacle of a public baptism of colored people in the waters of the Kokosing. The ceremony was performed by Elder Grayson of the Calvary Baptist church. Intrepidly, he waded out into the river until the water was up to his shoulders and there received the various postulants. There were 16 in all, 8 of each sex. All were submerged completely and the icy waters caused two of the women to faint. Friday evening the first annual Forum reunion was held in the high school building. Those invited were members of the present forum staff and former members of the Forum staffs. Approximately seventy-five persons gathered in the high school building where a very enjoyable hour was spent. A program was rendered which was enjoyed by all present. Later in the evening the company adjourned to Turner’s restaurant where a three-course banquet was served. The programs for this reunion were very unique. They were made up as a small Forum and were called the Reunion number. On the inside in the “locals” …

Following the debate a banquet was given at Turner's restaurant in honor of the two teams. There was also present the chairman and judges of the evening, and several teachers of both high schools. After the banquet, Superintendent P.C. Zemer acted as toastmaster and toasts were responded to by Coach West on behalf of the Zanesville team and Mr. Dan Houck on behalf of the Mt. Vernon team. Short addresses were also made by three judges of the debate and by Hon. Lewis B. Houck.

Organized For Neighborhood Partiotism--Cooperation In Business And Social Affairs--Washington, D.C., March 3—A scheme for the organization of rural communities for both business and social purposes is worked out in an article which is to appear in the forth-coming Yearbook of the Department of Agriculture, and which has already been printed as a pamphlet for the use of the Department’s Office of Markets and Rural Organization.
