Commemorative Lithuanian First Day Cover for Chiune Sugihara, who was the Japanese consul in Kaunas, Lithuania in 1940. He issued Japanese visas to Polish Jews against the orders of his government, as a consequence of which Jewish refugees were able to escape to Japan and other countries.

Czechoslovakian Travel Passport issued for Egon Hertzka in 1936. Curacao visa, Japan transit visa and many border crossing seals inside. Chiune Sugihara was a Japanese diplomat who served as Vice-Consul for the Japanese Empire in Lithuania. During World War II, he helped several thousand Jews to leave the country by issuing transit visas to Jewish refugees so that they could travel to Japan. Most …
