Objective: Assessing the effectiveness of photodynamic therapy with aminolevulinic acid versus placebo in the complete clearance rate of actinic keratosis.Design: Systematic literature review. Methods: An initial literature search was performed using Google Scholar using terms “photodynamic therapy”, “aminolevulinic acid,” “randomized control trial”, “actinic keratosis”, “clearance efficacy”, “safety”, “field treatment”, and “placebo”. An additional search using PubMed was performed using the same terms. Studies were excluded if they were performed on non-human subjects, did not use aminolevulinic acid as their photosensitizer, used organ transplant recipients, compared efficacy to alternate treatment modalities, used alternative light source such as laser or daylight, …
More Alike Than Different: Student Perceptions Of Academic Librarians By Genders And Subject Areas, Elizabeth Price, Jody C. Fagan
More Alike Than Different: Student Perceptions Of Academic Librarians By Genders And Subject Areas, Elizabeth Price, Jody C. Fagan
Libraries
This study explored differences in how undergraduate students of different genders and academic disciplines perceived academic librarians at a U.S. public university. No evidence indicated differences between students identifying as male or female, and few statistically significant differences were found among four Subject Areas (Arts, Humanities + Social Sciences, Business, Health + Education, and STEM). Our results have implications for local practice though they are not generalizable to other institutions. Despite a lack of significant findings, librarians should continue to explore ways to measure how students of different disciplines perceive academic libraries and/or librarians as valuable to their academic success.

Effects Of Cannabidiol As Adjunct Therapy For Management Of Treatment-Resistant Epilepsy, Harry Gray, Molly Anadale
Effects Of Cannabidiol As Adjunct Therapy For Management Of Treatment-Resistant Epilepsy, Harry Gray, Molly Anadale
Physician Assistant Capstones, 2020-current
Background. Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS) and Dravet Syndrome(DS) are two types of childhood epilepsy syndromes that are often resistant to traditional anti-epileptic drug (AED) regimens. With the development of a pharmaceutical grade purified cannabidiol (CBD), there has been increasing interest in its utility for treatment of epilepsy. We conducted a systematic review to explore the efficacy of CBD in reducing seizure frequency when added to traditional AED regimens in those who are considered to have treatment resistant epilepsy (TRE).
Method. A search of PubMed was performed in September 2020 using the terms “cannabidiol”, “Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome”, “Dravet Syndrome”, and “epilepsy” with …

The Effect Of Hydroxychloroquine On Mortality In Hospitalized Covid-19 Patients, Misha Suresh, Jeff Abraham
The Effect Of Hydroxychloroquine On Mortality In Hospitalized Covid-19 Patients, Misha Suresh, Jeff Abraham
Physician Assistant Capstones, 2020-current
As of October 2020, there are no commonly accepted or proven effective treatments for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is an established anti-malarial drug with demonstrated action against SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) in-vitro and early observational studies and anecdotal evidence supported its use in treatment of COVID-19. In this review, three of largest and most statistically powerful studies to date (two cohort studies and one randomized controlled trial [RCT]) are synthesized for the purpose of determining whether HCQ is effective in reducing mortality in patients hospitalized with COVID-19. All three studies found no statistically significant difference in …

Ketamine As A Treatment Modality For Treatment-Resistant Depression, Tracy Wulff, Shen Cao
Ketamine As A Treatment Modality For Treatment-Resistant Depression, Tracy Wulff, Shen Cao
Physician Assistant Capstones, 2020-current
Many recent studies have demonstrated the ability of ketamine, an NMDA receptor antagonist, to produce antidepressant effects that may be effective in helping reduce treatment-resistant major depression. In particular, three double-blinded randomized control trials have been conducted to assess the viability and effectiveness of this medication for treatment. This systematic literature review will analyze these studies and determine if the overall research indicates that ketamine is useful in improving depression as measured by the Montgomery–Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS)1.
Objective: Assess the effectiveness of IV Ketamine in reducing treatment-resistant major depressive disorder as measured by the Montgomery–Asberg …

Reading The Archival Remains Of Arturo Islas's La Mollie And The King Of Tears, Allison Fagan
Reading The Archival Remains Of Arturo Islas's La Mollie And The King Of Tears, Allison Fagan
Department of English - Faculty Scholarship
This essay considers Arturo Islas’s posthumously published novel, La Mollie and the King of Tears (1996), arguing that an examination of its “archival remains”—its drafted and rejected material found in Islas’s archive—offers compelling evidence of the text’s anxious resistances to bodily, narrative, and cultural annihilation. Drawing on textual scholarship that prioritizes notions of texts as “fluid” or “in process” as well as on theories of queer and asycnhronous temporalities, I argue for a reading of the novel as haunted by its erasures and absences, and for a reading practice that more purposefully imagines the role of the body—of the author, …

Item Parameter Recovery With And Without The Use Of Priors, Paulius Satkus, Christine E. Demars
Item Parameter Recovery With And Without The Use Of Priors, Paulius Satkus, Christine E. Demars
Department of Graduate Psychology - Faculty Scholarship
Marginal maximum likelihood (MML), a common estimation method for IRT models, is not inherently a Bayesian procedure. However, due to estimation difficulties, Bayesian priors are often applied to the likelihood when estimating 3PL models, especially with small samples. Little focus has been placed on choosing the priors for MML estimation. In this study, using samples sizes of 1000 or smaller, not using priors often led to extreme, implausible parameter estimates. Applying prior distributions to the c-parameters alleviated the estimation problems with samples of 1000; priors on both the a-parameters and c-parameters were needed for the samples of …
Differential Motivation In Remote Educational Assessment: Person-Based Filtering Versus Response-Based Filtering, Sarah Alahmadi, Christine E. Demars
Differential Motivation In Remote Educational Assessment: Person-Based Filtering Versus Response-Based Filtering, Sarah Alahmadi, Christine E. Demars
Department of Graduate Psychology - Faculty Scholarship
Large-scale educational assessments are often considered low-stakes, increasing the possibility of confounding true performance level with low motivation. These concerns are amplified in remote testing conditions. To remove the effects of low effort levels in responses observed in remote low-stakes testing, several motivation filtering methods can be used to purify the data. We estimated scores from assessment data collected remotely in Spring 2021 six ways, applying examinee-based filtering methods (filtering examinees based on total time) and response-based filtering methods (filtering responses using the effort-moderated IRT model), varying the thresholds selected to separate solution behavior (SB) responses from rapid-guessing behavior (RGB). …
