This article describes the fundamental challenges to data curation, how these challenges may be compounded for smaller institutions, and how data management is an essential and manageable component of data curation. Data curation is often discussed within the confines of large research universities. As a result, master's and baccalaureate institutions may be left with the impression that they cannot engage with data curation. However, by proactively engaging with faculty, libraries of all sizes can build closer relationships and help educate faculty on data documentation and organizational best practices. The 12MSP was a formal meeting of the 160 States which had, as of the time of the meeting, accepted the 1997 Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction. It was held in accordance with Article 11 of the Convention and pursuant to the decisions of the 2009 Second Review Conference and the 2011 Eleventh Meeting of the States Parties (11MSP).

In response to the limited guidance on the topic of transition to national ownership, the GICHD commissioned nine country case studies in 2011 to highlight different contexts, processes, challenges, good practices and lessons learnt from the process of transition to national ownership.
Based on lessons learnt and the good practices highlighted in the case studies, the GICHD, in collaboration with UNMAS, produced a Guide on Transitioning Mine Action Programmes to National Ownership.

Inventor Nikola Tesla is the inspiration for a library orientation game at JMU. Engineering freshmen learn about the library’s layout and resources while searching both in the building and online for clues about the theft of Tesla’s notebook. This presentation will cover the creation, implementation, and evaluation of the game.

Many people use personal mobile devices, but what are the advantages to educational and organizational use? The JMU Libraries and Educational Technologies (L&ET) faculty and staff experimented with mobile devices using a Sandbox format. From program structure and budgeting to sample group demonstrations and assessment, get a practical look at the planning necessary to implement a technology Sandbox. This results of the JMU L&ET technology Sandbox was presented at the 2012 VLA Annual Conference in the VLACRL poster session.

On the 19th October 2012 at [International demining organisation] task CBU 319, an uncontrolled detonation of two US M series M42 sub-munitions occurred while [International demining organisation] site supervisor [the Victim] was preparing for the demolition of these found sub-munitions.

This project examines the history of mine action as well as the debated link between landmines and development. It also explains why strong, inter-organisational relationships between the mine action and development sectors are so critical for both humanitarian and socio-economic, development reasons.
