The effects of selective and anticipatory attention on alpha blocking were examined by presenting an 8 sec. warning tone followed .4 sec. later by a second tone which alternately commenced 1) a control series of passive listening, 2) a simple reaction time task, or 3) a discrimination reaction time task. No differences in alpha activity were noted in the period of auditory anticipation following the onset of the warning signal or during the process of selection after the reaction signal.
Significant differences in conditions were noted only in the period after the response had been made. It was suggested that …

Because of a growing concern with equalization in the provis:LOn of human services, the substantial variance among and within American states in per capita health-hospital and education expenditures has received much serious empirical analysis. The major policy implications of interstate analysis are clear and well known: how much and what kind of federal assistance is necessary to effect an equalization of service levels, and what kinds of state-local government adjustments ought to be required as a condition of receiving this assistance. This report summarizes a study conducted by Battelle, Pacific Northwest Laboratories (Battelle-Northwest) f o r the Atomic Energy Commission. It represents an interdisciplinary effort to extend a methodology (recently developed at Battelle-Northwest) for siting nuclear power plants to the problem of routing electric power transmission lines. The methodology incorporates both public values and technical assessments.
