Fabrication And Characterization Of Thin, Self‐Supporting Germanium Single Crystals, M. W. Grant, P. F. Lyman, J. H. Hoogenraad, Barbara S. Carlsward, D. A. Arms, L. E. Seiberling, F. Namavar

Barbara S. Carlsward

Thin Gesingle crystals (≤1 μm) up to 4 mm in diameter have been fabricated from epitaxialGefilmsgrown by atmospheric pressurechemical vapor deposition on Si(100) wafers. The thin Ge windows are formed by chemically etching away both the Si substrate and the region of the Gefilm near the interface that contains misfit dislocations associated with heteroepitaxialgrowth and relaxation of the Gefilms. The resulting Gefilms are comparable in crystalline quality to bulk Ge wafers, as indicated by ion channeling studies.

Affect And The Perception Of Injustice, Steven J. Scher, David R. Heise Jan 1993

Affect And The Perception Of Injustice, Steven J. Scher, David R. Heise

Steven J. Scher

Traditional approaches to distributive justice have seen the determination of whether or not a distribution of rewards is fair as a cognitive process, with emotion entering the process only as an outcome of a decision that the distribution was unjust. In this paper, we propose a modification of this view. Namely, we propose that justice is not calculated unless the actor feels a justice-related emotion (anger or guilt). These emotions, which arise in the course of social interaction, lead to the instigation of justice deliberations. Using Affect Control Theory, we explain how the justice-related emotions could arise in situations that …

The Early Months Of Stuttering: A Developmental Study, Rebecca Throneburg, Ehud Yairi, Nicoline Grinager Ambrose Jan 1993

The Early Months Of Stuttering: A Developmental Study, Rebecca Throneburg, Ehud Yairi, Nicoline Grinager Ambrose

Rebecca Throneburg

Objective data on the development of stuttering during its first several months are sparse. Such a deficit is due to parents' tendency to postpone professional consultation regarding early stuttering until later in the course of the disorder and to a lack of longitudinal studies beginning close to onset. This report presents information on a rare group of 16 preschool subjects who were evaluated within several weeks after stuttering onset and followed for 6 months using multiple measures. The findings show that often early stuttering takes on a moderate-to-severe form. Substantial changes occurred, however, during the 6 months of the study, …
