Coping Behaviors Of African Americans With Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Focused Ethnography, Patricia Scott

Background: Increasing numbers of African Americans are being diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in the United States (Dahlhamer, Zammitti, Ward, Wheaton, & Croft, 2016). Little is known about the influence of culture on coping with the disease. Method: Twelve African American adults with IBD were interviewed and observed using a focused ethnography. Results: Data analysis resulted in four major themes: (1) spending time living in the bathroom; (2) time and food restricted eating practices and cultural food avoidance; (3) dealing with a life full of stress; and (4) the practice of seclusion to promote health. Background: There is scant literature addressing the parents of children who had hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). therefore only inferences may be made as to issues of that experience affecting parents.

Researchers have become increasingly interested in the impact of racism on African Americans; however, because interactions involving racism are highly subjective, it can be difficult to assert the presence of trauma in a social science context. Thus, whereas literature regarding the effects of racism is abundant, few studies have explored the effects of being exposed to the laws of the "Jim Crow" era. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between gamer personality types, preferred coping strategies, and levels of resiliency as a means of beginning to understand the psychological factors making up the gamer culture. This study used a demographic questionnaire, the BrainHex Gamer Personality Test, the Coping Strategies Inventory Short Form, and the ER-89 Ego Resiliency Scale to assess participants. Many parents undertake home care of children with a tracheostomy who require highly complex and technology driven care that would have been formerly assumed by health care providers. Until recently, celiac disease was thought to be rare in the United States. However over the past ten years, the reported prevalence has increased from 1 in 4600 persons to 1 in 133 persons. The latest estimate makes the prevalence comparable to the prevalence in Europe, where the disease is considered to be common.

Development And Construct Validation Of The Pharmacists' Care Of Migraineurs Scale, Neel Shah

To develop and determine construct validity of the pharmacists' care of migraineurs scale (PCMS) an initial set of domains and items were derived from a review of the literature and from the results of focus groups with community pharmacists and migraineurs. Results from a nationwide sample of community pharmacists yielded a seven-factor solution including the following domains: empathy, prospective drug utilization review for newly diagnosed migraineurs, medication counseling, non-pharmacologic treatment plan, headache sufferer triage, dissemination of public health information and maintenance of knowledge on migraine. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between spirituality and the ability to cope as an educational leader.
