Avenues is a program designed to help adults lead happier and more productive lives by overcoming mental health and chemical dependency challenges. The problem is, participants are not fully prepared for independent living following these programs. CSUMB Community Health Engagement (CHE) in Salinas, CA, provides various services and resources to homeless individuals to help meet their basic needs. A collection drive was a resourceful project implemented to allocate items to be donated to homeless individuals during CHE's outreach efforts through different encampments. Due to the national lack of service providers, current providers are experiencing high levels of stress/trauma because of workload, expectations, and the emotional toll these essential jobs have. Monterey County Behavioral Health Bureau is a public government agency that provides mental health services to the community. This senior capstone research examines the methods being used to prevent mental health problems in K-8 students. Research from Chandra and Minkovitz (2007) shows that due to the lack of knowledge, confidence, and resources, teachers and on-site staff are not able to provide the necessary help to students who need mental health services. Through the use of literature review, interviews with three elementary teachers and three administrative staff, and 30 anonymous student surveys, the result findings indicate that the K-8 school in the Manteca Unified School District (MUSD) currently tackles student mental health issues primarily by onsite counselors and Social-Emotional …

The Youth Homeless Response Team (YHRT) is a program that serves unaccompanied youth, who are currently at risk of being homeless or fleeing a domestic violence situation. By providing case management. Within the program's population of focus, a large portion of unhoused youth are adolescent mothers. This project addresses the high prevalence of poor mental health among young mothers. Acknowledging financial insecurity as a contributor the project entailed, hosting a diaper donation event called “Dance For Diapers.” so that diapers may be delivered to low-income young mothers at YHRT. First-generation college students often face new challenges and stressors that can be difficult for them to cope with. Lack of coping skills for first-generation college students can have adverse effects on mental health such as increased symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression.
