Reducing Carbon Emissions With Returned Concrete, John M. Maxwell Jr.
Reducing Carbon Emissions With Returned Concrete, John M. Maxwell Jr.
Construction Management
The concrete industry is one of the most energy-intensive sectors of construction. Specifically, the cement production aspect is the most energy intensive, and produces the most carbon emissions. Concrete, a material ubiquitous with nearly every facet of construction; certain types of structures are composed of nearly all concrete. Production of cement is one of the biggest contributors to emissions within the industry. There have been initiatives to reduce or offset emissions from this process, through things like carbon capture, and the purchase of carbon or emissions credits. The objective of this paper was to investigate a new method of carbon …

Nira Ya Mtumwa Aliye Huru: Granville Kachipumo's Life Of Slavery And Redemption In Nineteenth-Century East Africa, Zachary Tyler Levy
Master's Theses
Granville Kachipumo was the Universities Mission to Central Africa’s African-born teacher at Mkului in East Africa near today’s Muheza district of Tanga, Tanzania. He was taken from his home along River Lintipe at 10 to 12 years old. Granville Kachipumo’s life began with his family west of Lake Nyasa. Ripped from the arms of his parents, Granville Kachipumo faced two inland journeys, each with its complex forms of slave trade. From the inland environment, Granville Kachipumo navigated to the mission halls of Masasi and beyond. Kachipumo’s story is, as Arthur Cornwallis Madan stated, “a story of an intelligent boy who …

The Irish Republican Army: An Examination Of Imperialism, Terror, And Just War Theory, Avery R. Barboza
The Irish Republican Army: An Examination Of Imperialism, Terror, And Just War Theory, Avery R. Barboza
Master's Theses
Analysis of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and their actions in the 1970s and 1980s offer insight into their use of just war theory in their conflict with the British government and ultra-loyalist Protestant forces in Northern Ireland. The historiography of Irish history is defined by its phases of nationalism, revisionism, and anti-revisionism that cloud the historical narrative of imperialism and insurgency in the North. Applying just war theory to this history offers a more nuanced understanding of the conflict of the Troubles and the I.R.A.’s usage of this framework in their ideology that guided their terrorism in the latter …

"For All Such, A Country Is Provided": Choctaw Removal, Slave Trading, And Law In Southwestern Mississippi, 1800–1841, Anthony Albey Soliman
Master's Theses
At the beginning of the nineteenth century there were few white settlers in the Mississippi Territory. Over the course of two decades, the United States used treaties to force the indigenous inhabitants, the Choctaw, out of this area by the United States to lands west of the Mississippi River. The United States’ goal in the region was to create a plantation economy in the Mississippi Valley based on the production of short-staple cotton sustained by enslaved African American labor. Focusing on the removal of the Choctaw and the subsequent installation of a plantation regime in the Mississippi Valley, this thesis …
The Failure Of News Media Agenda-Setting On Cannabis, Amanda Cranston
The Failure Of News Media Agenda-Setting On Cannabis, Amanda Cranston
Journalism
This study uses the agenda-setting theory (McCombs & Shaw, 1972, p. 176) to examine the various aspects of cannabis coverage in the news media and how news media have presented cannabis and the numerous debates over cannabis uses. Cannabis has been a focus of U.S. news media since the 19th century and has been historically misrepresented in national and local news media. More recently, the U.S. has seen a great shift in the public’s attitude towards cannabis. With more and more states legalizing medical and even recreational use, news media are surging to meet the demands of its publics, even …

Our paper covers information on what children know, Parent conversations, and cultural differences between all these topics. Our methods Are broken up into two parts: a parent survey and an informative website. The survey was distributed locally and included questions about parents’ beliefs towards how much their children knew about these topics and their attitudes about having the conversations. The website was created to be a tool for parents and …
Is Retro Packaging Making A Comeback? Is Old The New “New”?, Andrea Hodgson
Is Retro Packaging Making A Comeback? Is Old The New “New”?, Andrea Hodgson
Graphic Communication
The purpose of this study was to investigate consumer perceptions of retro packaging vs. modern packaging. A survey was administered to different groups of people around Cal Poly asking participants which packages they preferred in terms of design and perceived quality. The participants indicated their preferences and then expressed their views freely with an open-ended question.
The results of this study indicated that consumers had a strikingly high favor to modern packaging design over retro in terms of design and perceived quality. There was no difference across generations.
Although retro packaging may look appealing, customers are not likely to purchase …
Investigation Of Regional Bias In Dairy Cattle Genomic Evaluations, Erin De Snayer
Investigation Of Regional Bias In Dairy Cattle Genomic Evaluations, Erin De Snayer
Dairy Science
The objective of this study was to determine if important amounts of bias exist in genomic evaluations of dairy cattle in various regions of the United States. Genomic and traditional data was collected from three regions, Maddox Dairy in Riverdale, CA (West Coast), Iowa State University (Midwest) and Pennsylvania State University (East Coast). Genomic samples of 936 registered 1st lactation fresh Holstein heifers from Maddox Dairy in Riverdale, CA were collected using the BoveSNP50 Bead Chip. Iowa State University (ISU) supplied genomic, parental average and PTA results from 334 Holstein cows whose genomic samples were collected using the BoveSNP50 …

Losing The Colonies: How Differing Interpretations Of The British Constitution Caused The American Revolution, Brian M. Flint
Losing The Colonies: How Differing Interpretations Of The British Constitution Caused The American Revolution, Brian M. Flint
Master's Theses
Faced with an economic crisis following the French and Indian War, the British Parliament, along with a young and inexperienced King George III changed its longstanding policy towards the North American colonies. Prior to 1763, Parliament allowed the colonies to generally govern themselves. After 1763, Parliament began to pass legislation aimed at increasing revenue received from the colonies. As the colonies protested these new taxes on constitutional grounds Parliament began a process of implementing and repealing different attempts at controlling the economic system in the colonies. Due to differing interpretations of the British Constitution regarding Parliament's authority over the colonies, …
Reproductive Diseases Of Dairy Cattle, Christina Suzanne Tortosa
Reproductive Diseases Of Dairy Cattle, Christina Suzanne Tortosa
Dairy Science
The efficiency of today’s dairy has increased due to the growing number of cows per herd and the production of pounds of milk per cow. Increased milk production however has resulted in a reduction of conception rates causing a loss of income for the dairy producer since the dairy industry relies heavily on milk production, which is caused by good conception rates. Many reproductive disorders like dystocia, metritis, endometritis, and retained placenta affect conception rates, and can lead to metabolic diseases like rumen acidosis, milk fever, and displaced abomasums. Recurrent metabolic diseases can eventually lead to culling of the herd. …
Approach At Marketing, Douglas Meyer
Approach At Marketing, Douglas Meyer
Art and Design
In this senior paper I wanted to work on marketing a chair through different angles of design. These angles include logo design, photography, packaging design and a few advertising works to go along. I felt that the broad parts of this project would help in creating a portfolio piece that I have designed from the ground up. In reading my paper you will see the different approaches that were made and what ones worked. In all the pieces I am going to have to research to find the best way to approach these made up problems.
