“Digital By Necessity”: An Interview With Dr. Jane Wanninger, Julia Carey Arendell, Jane Wanninger
Early College Folio
In the summer of 2020, Dr. Jane Wanninger participated in a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Institute hosted by Agnes Scott College to learn about implementing digital storytelling in the classroom, which ironically, had to be completed digitally due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her experience was the inspiration for this issue of Early College Folio as she pitched her ideas using the phrase “digital by necessity.” Issue Editor Julia Carey Arendell interviewed Jane, captured here, on all that she learned to think more deeply about using the virtual tool of digital storytelling as a teacher, a student, and …

Adderall Abuse Among College Students: Unveiling Underlying Motivations, Giordana Paige Scanni
Adderall Abuse Among College Students: Unveiling Underlying Motivations, Giordana Paige Scanni
Senior Projects Spring 2022
Adderall is the most common stimulant prescribed to individuals with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). There is a growing body of evidence revealing how Adderall abuse is most commonly linked to academic enhancement. But there is limited research suggesting why Adderall abuse is still on the rise, and why it is so easily accessible despite its detrimental effects on the body. To assess this growing issue, the current study investigated whether doctors are properly monitoring the side effects of Adderall, while uncovering a potential underlying motivation of Adderall abuse for weight loss. This study identified a large sample of college students …
The Show Must Go On: New York Diy As Cultural Practice In The Changing City, Danni Slawinski
The Show Must Go On: New York Diy As Cultural Practice In The Changing City, Danni Slawinski
Senior Projects Spring 2022
The New York DIY scene is situated in a long history of social, political, and musical movements across the nation. Coming from this tradition of “do it yourself” politics, this community has adapted over the years to combat the forces of gentrification and capitalism which constantly threaten DIY music scenes. Over the last two years, this community has faced one of the most unexpected challenges to the continuation of the scene; The COVID-19 pandemic. In this ethnographically inflected analysis of the New York City DIY scene, I will be looking at the ways in which this musical community has been …

Increasing Numbers Of Chinese Students At U.S. Higher Education: Theories, Discussions, And Survey Findings In Context Of Chinese Education And Social Stratification, Youren Yu
Senior Projects Spring 2022
The U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement reports that Chinese international students have been increasing continuously for over a decade, and they are also the biggest group of international students in the U.S. Reviewing key theories and literature on social stratification such as the rational choice model, maximally maintained inequality, and effectively maintained inequality, and conducting in-depths surveys with 15 Chinese students studying in U.S. higher education institutions, I discuss micro and macro level reasons why some Chinese students choose U.S higher education. I argue at the micro level, the decision can be explained by individual disagreement with the Chinese education …

Gender Inequalities In The Allocation Of Time To Household Production In Nepal, Nischal Dhungel
Gender Inequalities In The Allocation Of Time To Household Production In Nepal, Nischal Dhungel
Theses - Graduate Programs in Economic Theory and Policy
The thesis examines factors that may explain gender (working age group, married men and women, 15-60 years) inequalities in the allocation of time to household production in Nepal. Gender disparities in the allocation of unpaid care and domestic labor (home production) are a major and prevalent element of inequalities between men and women. I presume that each spouse's time spent is influenced by personal and household factors. Furthermore, I argue that state can play substantial role in pursuing province level employment program (Karnali Province) in line with federal level employment program, namely Job Guarantee to uplift women's economic empowerment by …
Give To You/Fill My Cup, Madeline Damon Roisin Moneypenny
Give To You/Fill My Cup, Madeline Damon Roisin Moneypenny
Senior Projects Spring 2022
At the core of my project is the assertion that the human voice functions as an instrument. During my time at Bard, my musical practice revolved around an exploration and desire to use singing as texture, as a solo instrument, and as storytelling. I wanted to challenge what it means to be a singer in a band setting, a setting that often illuminates gender in startling ways that limit the creativity and confidence of non-male players. Through this concert series, I wanted to show the singer as a player, an artist, and as integral to the work.
I composed 14 …
