Martin Luther’S Understanding Of Faith In Relation To Infant Baptism, Francis Gayoba
Martin Luther’S Understanding Of Faith In Relation To Infant Baptism, Francis Gayoba
Andrews University Seminary Studies (AUSS)
This article explores Martin Luther’s understanding of faith as a means to reconcile the seeming tension between his emphasis on faith in baptism against Roman Catholicism and his de-emphasis on faith against Anabaptism. This tension is most evident in his support of infant baptism despite his belief in sola fide. It is proposed that Luther’s predestinarian understanding of the sovereignty of God influences his perception of the role of faith in baptism, which emphasizes God’s role and de-emphasizes human acts in the ceremony. Luther argues that human faith, while important for the daily application of baptism, cannot be the …

An Evaluation Of The Classification Scheme For Adventists And Ellen White, Felipe E. Tan, Terry Dwain Robertson
An Evaluation Of The Classification Scheme For Adventists And Ellen White, Felipe E. Tan, Terry Dwain Robertson
Faculty Publications
Libraries at Seventh-day Adventist affiliated colleges and universities collect their denominational materials exhaustively. Many use the Library of Congress Classification Scheme (LCC). The challenge is that these exhaustive collections must fit in a classification scheme based on a general collection that does not typically hold much on this topic. LCC uses BX6151- 6155 for Seventh-day Adventists. Following the LCC notation without modification or expansion results in the proliferation of decimals, impeding both library users and staff. When a number of institutions share this same need, finding a standard notation they all can use is a mutual benefit. This paper reports …

Perceptions Of Psychology Among Seminary And Biology Students At Andrews University, Sandro Moraes
Perceptions Of Psychology Among Seminary And Biology Students At Andrews University, Sandro Moraes
Master's Theses
Problem. Both pastors and biologists frequently interact with individuals. These contacts often involve conversations that deal with an individual’s feelings, behaviors, and the relationship between mind and body. Thus, how seminarians and biologists perceive psychology will greatly affect such interactions. Therefore it is important to know how both professionals perceive psychology. This is not all that different from the research biologists perform as they learn about the brain. Because of the interrelatedness between these two professions, what are the perceptions of psychology among seminary and biology students at Andrews University? -- Method. The data gathered from the responses of biology …

The Magisterium And Theologians In The Writings Of Avery Robert Dulles, Darius W. Jankiewicz
The Magisterium And Theologians In The Writings Of Avery Robert Dulles, Darius W. Jankiewicz
Dissertations
This study explores Avery Robert Dulles's views regarding the nature of doctrinal authority in the Roman Catholic Church, and particularly the relationship between the hierarchical magisterium and theologians, with special focus on the apparent disparity between his early post-Vatican II views and his recent views.
To attain this goal, Dulles's convictions were considered in the context of his doctrine of the Church, and, whenever relevant, from the perspective of his overall theological system, without neglecting the presuppositions undergirding his ideas and the methodologies used to support them. To highlight contrasting positions, three periods are studied consecutively: the earliest writings, i.e., …

Perceptions Of The Role Of The Bible Class In Four Christian Liberal Arts Colleges: Considered In The Context Of Conflicting Rationales, Jaime Castrejon
Perceptions Of The Role Of The Bible Class In Four Christian Liberal Arts Colleges: Considered In The Context Of Conflicting Rationales, Jaime Castrejon
Dissertations
Problem. The four Seventh-day Adventist senior colleges in Inter-America aim at training Christian professionals who will serve the church either directly on its payroll or indirectly as devoted Christian professional laymen. The colleges are doubly challenged to maintain academic excellence while providing spiritual nourishment and commitment. The Bible class is central to this approach to education. Adventist leaders and educators, however, have not given serious study to the questions arising from this practice. No guidelines exist for determining an adequate amount of Bible classes. Each institution sets its own requirements which results in great disparity among them in this regard. …
