Shape Memory Alloy Capsule Micropump For Drug Delivery Applications, Youssef Mohamed Kotb Jun 2024

Shape Memory Alloy Capsule Micropump For Drug Delivery Applications, Youssef Mohamed Kotb

Theses and Dissertations

Implantable drug delivery devices have many benefits over traditional drug administration techniques and have attracted a lot of attention in recent years. By delivering the medication directly to the tissue, they enable the use of larger localized concentrations, enhancing the efficacy of the treatment. Passive-release drug delivery systems, one of the various ways to provide medication, are great inventions. However, they cannot dispense the medication on demand since they are nonprogrammable. Therefore, active actuators are more advantageous in delivery applications. Smart material actuators, however, have greatly increased in popularity for manufacturing wearable and implantable micropumps due to their high energy …

Metaproteomics Profiling Of Gut Microbiota In Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Patients, Shahd Ezz El Din Jun 2023

Metaproteomics Profiling Of Gut Microbiota In Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Patients, Shahd Ezz El Din

Theses and Dissertations

The gut microbiota is the collection of microorganisms that harbor the human gastrointestinal tract. The relation of microbiota and cancer is an emerging field as several studies have linked the gut microbiota to cancer. Such findings opened the door towards a new era of studies aiming to reveal the role of the microbiota in cancer initiation and progression. Although several metagenomic studies have provided insights into the gut microbial composition in health and diseased state, the microbial functional characteristics is still poorly understood. With current advances in mass spectrometry, comprehensive understanding of microbiota proteome became possible. In this vein, the …

Atomistic Assessment Of Drug-Phospholipid Interactions Consequent To Cancer Treatment: A Study Of Anthracycline Cardiotoxicity, Yara Elsayed Ahmed Jun 2023

Atomistic Assessment Of Drug-Phospholipid Interactions Consequent To Cancer Treatment: A Study Of Anthracycline Cardiotoxicity, Yara Elsayed Ahmed

Theses and Dissertations

Despite being one of the most effective chemotherapeutic agents developed to date, Anthracyclines are notorious for their cardiotoxicity. Their clinical use is frequently limited both in dosage and in prescription due to the severe cardiac damage they cause. The mechanism of anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity is not yet fully understood. However, it is hypothesized that interactions with the myocardial membrane play an important role in imparting cardiotoxicity. In this study, we use molecular dynamics simulations and density functional theory calculations to study the anthracycline drug molecules and the interactions that they have with the myocardial membrane. We construct a myocardial membrane model …

Cofactor Of Brca1 Promotes Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition And Cell Proliferation In Intermediate Stage Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cell Line, Mennatallah Ghouraba Jun 2018

Cofactor Of Brca1 Promotes Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition And Cell Proliferation In Intermediate Stage Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cell Line, Mennatallah Ghouraba

Theses and Dissertations

Hepatocellular carcinoma ranks as one of the most lethal types of cancer worldwide and in Egypt. Being complex and heterogenous clinically and molecularly, HCC has a very poor prognosis, and it lacks adequate diagnostic and prognostic molecular markers. Cofactor of BRCA1 (COBRA1); also known as NELF-B, is one of the NELF complex components that stalls RNA polymerase II during transcription elongation and regulates several processes in the cell. Previous studies have shown the upregulation of COBRA1 in Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) compared to healthy liver tissue. It was also shown to support cell proliferation and migration in early stages of HCC. …

Evaluating The Efficacy Of Liposomal Delivery Of Nedaplatin In Enhancing Cytotoxicity, Genotoxicity And Dna Damage In Lung, Breast, And Osteosarcoma Cancer Cell Lines, Salma Abdelnaser Jun 2018

Evaluating The Efficacy Of Liposomal Delivery Of Nedaplatin In Enhancing Cytotoxicity, Genotoxicity And Dna Damage In Lung, Breast, And Osteosarcoma Cancer Cell Lines, Salma Abdelnaser

Theses and Dissertations

Today, cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide where chemotherapy is one of the common strategies to control it. Platinum-based chemotherapeutic drugs (PBDs) are a mainstay in chemotherapy due to their high effectiveness in a wide spectrum of cancer types. Severe toxicity and innate or acquired drug resistance are the two main problems limiting PBD clinical use. One approach to overcome both problems is by employing cancer-targeting drug delivery systems where liposomes, in particular, are gaining much attention in oncology application and have established superior potency compared to the corresponding free drugs in clinical application already. This study …

In Silico Identification And In Vitro Assessment Of A Potential Anticancer Peptide Sequence Retrieved From The Red Sea Metagenomics Library, Mona Elradi Imam Feb 2016

In Silico Identification And In Vitro Assessment Of A Potential Anticancer Peptide Sequence Retrieved From The Red Sea Metagenomics Library, Mona Elradi Imam

Theses and Dissertations

Cancer is imposing a worldwide health concern with alarming morbidity and mortality rates. Its burden stems from its increasing incidence along with depletion of efficient therapeutic options. Current conventional anticancer therapies; surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are barely effective with deleterious side effects that ruin patients' quality of life. There is a paradigm shift in the interest of pharmaceutical industry towards a new class of peptide based drugs offering more selectivity, easier synthesis, wider safety profile and lower cost of manufacture. Anticancer peptides (ACPs) have gained interest in the last few decades due to their intrinsic properties such as cationicity and …
