Protocols For Enhancing The Role And Value Of Spiritual Care Resources In The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Garrett Harper

Doctor of Ministry Theses

This thesis addresses the assessment of innovative practices in police chaplaincy. The purpose of the project intervention is to develop protocols that can guide police chaplains through an assessment process. The intervention relies on practical theology as exemplified through the ministry of chaplaincy. This ministry comprises police chaplains offering spiritual comfort to persons encountering critical incidents involving violence, accident, or other trauma-intensive events and situations. Adoption of innovations can allow police chaplains to be more effective in fulfilling many outward-focused tasks such as delivery of death notifications. I conclude that: (1) police chaplaincy is amenable to use of protocols to …

A Practical Theology Of Created Space: Contextualized Theology For Pastoral Crisis Ministry, Gabriel Fisher Mar 2023

A Practical Theology Of Created Space: Contextualized Theology For Pastoral Crisis Ministry, Gabriel Fisher

Discernment: Theology and the Practice of Ministry

This is a practical theology of created space that attends to the questions raised by critical incidents and contexts by cultivating dialogue among experiences, beliefs, perceptions, and theology. This confessional approach works from the conviction that God is active and present within our experiences and that we are called to participate in the compassionate ministry of Christ. A created space represents a holding pattern of listening and dialogue where attention is given to the other person’s experiences, beliefs, present concerns, and our own formed center using the resources of spiritual theologies.

Holistic University Spiritual Formation And Ecclesial Relationships, Sara G. Barton

Discernment: Theology and the Practice of Ministry

In an effort to learn more about student experiences of disembodied and dis-embedded spirituality, the researcher conducted a qualitative research project among undergraduate students who expressed a desire to grow spiritually. This research was conducted as part of the author’s doctoral project. The participants were volunteers who had attended a university spiritual life retreat and wanted to continue growing in their faith over a six-week period, expressly committed to life embedded in community and through experiments in embodied spiritual practices. Using questionnaires, surveys, and interviews that included both fixed-choice questions and open-ended questions, the researcher gathered data that would help …

This doctor of ministry thesis presents the findings of a project in which I led a group of immigrants from South Sudan through the process of generating and evaluating an oral draft of Luke 8:4-15 in Uduk. The aim of this project was to provide a substantive field test of an oral translation methodology conducted among immigrants living in the United States who speak a language that lacks a translation of the entire Bible. The project involved facilitating basic translation training and conducting an oral drafting process with a team of three Uduk speakers. This project also involved evaluating the …
