Ot's Role With Survivors Of Sexual Assault, Myracle N. Carter, Cassandra M. Nelson
Ot's Role With Survivors Of Sexual Assault, Myracle N. Carter, Cassandra M. Nelson
Spring 2024 Virtual OTD Capstone Symposium
Sexual assault can lead to a multitude of symptoms that can negatively impact an individual’s occupational participation and quality of life. However, the literature and programming surrounding the use of occupational therapy (OT) with survivors of sexual assault is limited or outdated. Therefore, this program was created to be a resource and guide to increase the use of OT with survivors. This program included a total of five modules, which provided education and occupation-based activities to the participants to increase their occupational participation, specifically in work and education, and their overall quality of life. Following the conclusion of the implementation …

Culture Education Program To Improve Work Culture In Healthcare, Ngufor Fube Divine
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Abstract
This study investigated the efficacy of a culture educational intervention program in addressing toxic work culture within healthcare settings. The prevalence of toxic work environments in healthcare has been linked to adverse outcomes for both employees and patients. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of a targeted culture educational intervention on shifting organizational culture towards more positive dimensions, specifically focusing on Clan, Adhocracy, Market, and Hierarchy cultures. Utilizing a quantitative quasi-experimental design, this study employed repeated measures to assess participants' perceptions of organizational culture before, immediately after, and preferred following the intervention. The sample consisted …
Does 24-48 Or 48-96 Promote Better Rem Sleep Within Firefighters?, Ernesto Balderrama Jr, Raquel J. Cavazos, Cheyenne Martinez, Bryan G. Meek, Hussien K. Jabai, Vipa Bernhardt, Michael D. Oldham
Does 24-48 Or 48-96 Promote Better Rem Sleep Within Firefighters?, Ernesto Balderrama Jr, Raquel J. Cavazos, Cheyenne Martinez, Bryan G. Meek, Hussien K. Jabai, Vipa Bernhardt, Michael D. Oldham
International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings
A firefighter’s work schedule can be very demanding regardless if they work 24 hours followed by a 48-hour time off schedule or a 48-hour on followed by a 96-hour time off. Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep could be the deciding factor of how well a firefighter can perform following a certain work schedule. REM sleep is associated with the mental activity of dreaming; an individual averages 20-25% REM sleep of their total sleep time (Carskadon & Dement, 2005). REM is important for recovery because it can impact cognitive functions such as impulse control and decision making (Brunet, et al, 2020). …

“Not Much Of A Job”: Everyday Life And Labor At Camp Au Train, Josef T. Iwanicki
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
In this thesis, I use data from Camp Au Train, a Civilian Conservation Corp camp in Michigan’s Hiawatha National Forest, as a case study to connect the everyday life of enrollees with dominant government narratives while including a focus on labor and the capitalist crisis of the Great Depression. Using the vantage point of work, play, study, and health, I integrate archaeological, historic, and photographic evidence to show contradictions between the enrollees’ real lived experience and the dominant perspectives of the CCC ‘authorities’ who organized their lives. I argue that to interpret these contradictions, the CCC needs to be connected …

Leaning In And Bouncing Back: Neoliberal Feminism And The Work Of Self-Transformation In Ottessa Moshfegh’S My Year Of Rest And Relaxation (2018) And Halle Butler’S The New Me (2019), Isabel Sykes
Journal of International Women's Studies
This article is concerned with the capacity of contemporary fiction to reveal and oppose the ubiquity of work in Western culture. I conduct a comparative literary analysis of two contemporary novels that expose how neoliberal rationality has transformed work into an all-encompassing project, endorsed by a corresponding manifestation of feminism. Rather than challenging gendered labor relations through collective action, this “neoliberal feminism” incites women to turn their critical gaze within and transform themselves into resilient citizens and workers. Its sensibility is disseminated through popular literature, from “chick-lit” to self-help books, via narratives of physical and psychological self-transformation. This article builds …

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore perceptions of vocation, calling, and work among junior classification students at Union University. Calling was defined as a transcendent drawing toward a particular path in life, particularly as it relates to work. Vocation was defined in light of its historical and theological roots with a focus on the transcendent drawing toward a way of life as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Work was defined as one’s job or career. The theory guiding this study was that of constructivism or social constructivism, which “understands human reality as socially constructed reality” (Berger …

Inter-Joint Differences Exist In Kinetic Demand For Performance In High Jump, Toshihide Fujimori, Naoto Tobe, Natsuki Sado
Inter-Joint Differences Exist In Kinetic Demand For Performance In High Jump, Toshihide Fujimori, Naoto Tobe, Natsuki Sado
ISBS Proceedings Archive
We aimed to clarify the lower-limb kinetic determinants of inter-individual variability in flight height in the high jump. We hypothesised that although the take-off of the high jump requires great external power, the proximal (hip) joint is required to function as a stabiliser rather than as a power generator for higher performance. We analysed high jump motions by 16 male high jumpers. For the hip joint, only maximum torque significantly correlated with the flight height. Meanwhile, for the knee joint, both peak positive power and peak torque were correlated with the flight height, with a stronger correlation for power than …

Leading And Mentoring Women In Stem: Mitigating Gender & Microaggressions, Lilicia Bailey, April Curry
The Scholarship Without Borders Journal
Microaggressions, behaviors that can be nonverbal or verbal, can occur when individuals “communicate negative, hostile, and derogatory messages to people rooted in their marginalized group membership (based on gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality).” This statistic, according to the Institutional Transformation program at the University of New Hampshire,1 is in alignment with what researchers indicate regarding microaggressions, asserting that they can be “intentional or unintentional” can occur daily, and are unacknowledged (Making the Invisible Visible: Gender Based Microaggressions, n.d.).
We consider the various types of microaggressions, specifically those based on gender, and assess the effect it has on women in leadership …

Does Caffeine Consumption Affect Work Performance Across Different Job Types?, Bryan Js Goh, Joshua Tan, Cleavon Chong, Sean Ker
Introduction to Research Methods RSCH 202
We propose executing a panel series case study for a large organization in Singapore over a year to examine how caffeine impacts work performance across different job types. Our research question is how does caffeine affect work performance under different conditions due to work type differences. Our dependent variable would be work performance as measured by employees’ Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). We propose to gather data for two of our important independent variables: caffeine use through a recorded pantry system and average sleep hours from a survey. We will analyze the data by using two-factor ANOVA with replication to find …

Employee Perceptions Of Stressors At Work: An Attachment Perspective, Emma Josephine Naudet
Employee Perceptions Of Stressors At Work: An Attachment Perspective, Emma Josephine Naudet
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
The current study applied an attachment perspective to elucidate how individuals appraise stressors at work. Attachment theory proposes that individuals’ interactions with a caregiver shape their expectations and beliefs about the world, themselves, and others and predict how individuals behave. Attachment at work is a budding research topic because it informs the social aspect of work relationships, such as the leader-subordinate dyad. However, few studies have explored the potential of attachment security as a job resource. Our findings demonstrated strong support for our predictions about the relationship between transformational leadership, employee perceptions of demands and resources, and the potential explanatory …

Stress is a common theme in today's work environment. Stress can positively and negatively impact an individual's ability to do work. It has been found that perceived stress at work can impact a person's physical, emotional, and mental state. Studies show a correlation between stress with anxiety, depression, work efficiency, and burnout syndrome. Christian spiritual/ religious coping is one of the significant ways people cope when faced with stress. Spirituality is the belief in a Supreme Being, and Christianity is based on the belief in Jesus Christ as God and the director of humankind. Christian-based spiritual coping with work stress …
