Fatigue of skeletal muscle can be affected by multiple environmental elements. Fatigue threshold can be measured by VO2 max on a cycle ergometer combined with the use of a metabolic cart and Electromyography (EMG) measurements. This study is the prediction, depending on time and different geographical and climatic situations, of different operating parameters: solar radiation, ambient and outlet coolant temperature, heat exchange coefficients and losses. All these determine, in the absence of measurements, the efficiency of the system modelled with existing models with respect to these parameters. This study presents the combustion and emission results obtained from a laboratory furnace equipped with a 35 kW industrial burner that utilizes co-combustion of pulverized biomass and diesel fuel. The experiment compared the co-combustion of pulverized biomass and diesel fuel with diesel fuel alone. Three different loading ratios of pulverized biomass from residual beet samples were used. Temperatures were measured at various positions inside the furnace to analyze combustion performance. It was observed that increasing the biomass loading ratios led to higher flame temperatures and improved combustion compared to diesel fuel alone. The concentrations of pollutants such as Co, HC, …

Climate change has myriad impacts on ecosystems, but the mechanisms by which it affects individual species can be difficult to pinpoint. One strategy to discover such mechanisms is to identify a specific ecological factor related to survival or reproduction and determine how that factor is affected by climate. Here we used Landsat imagery to calculate water clarity for 127 lakes in northern Wisconsin from 1995 to 2021 and thus investigate the effect of clarity on the body condition of an aquatic visual predator, the common loon (Gavia immer). The purpose of the work is to study the influence of the post-harvest ripening period of wheat grains in open storages on their technological and biochemical properties. The influence of storage of samples of wheat grain in open warehouses during the ripening period on physical and chemical parameters is analyzed. As a result of storage in open warehouses, the temperature on the upper 5 cm surface of a heap of wheat grains stored during the ripening period after harvest on hot summer days turned out to be above 50 ºС on 22 days out of 30. The aim of the work is the synthesis and study of aryloxyalkylamines used as corrosion inhibitors. As a result of aminomethylation of arylproporgyl ethers, phenoxybutin-2-dimethylamine and phenoxy-butin-2-diethylamine were synthesized against metal corrosion. Based on the research, various factors affecting the synthesis process have been studied: temperature, the nature and concentration of the catalyst, the nature of solvents and the duration of time. Beef grazing systems require information on management, biophysical, and individual animal influences on performance metrics. However, long-term controlled experiments are lacking to comprehensively ascertain these individual and likely interacting influences. We used a legacy data set from the USDA Agricultural Research Service where individual weight gains were determined from on and off weights of Hereford cows and calves grazing native northern mixed-grass prairie, during the June through September season, from 1975-2001 near Cheyenne, Wyoming, USA. This research seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of two commercially accessible photovoltaic technologies in the specific desert conditions of El-Kharga Oasis, New Valley Governorate, Egypt. The performance of photovoltaic cells is significantly affected by certain weather factors such as temperature, dust, and clouds. The photovoltaic technologies under investigation include monocrystalline and polycrystalline systems. Data collection was carried out over a period of 12 months in a systematic manner. The increase in anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide (CO2), has caused global temperatures to rise, requiring the implementation of effective solutions to mitigate the carbon emissions such as Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). Even though CCS holds potential, there are concerns surrounding the capacity for CO2 storage and the potential for leakage. Recent studies found that on long time scales there are often unexplained opposite trends in sea level variability between the upper and lower Chesapeake Bay (CB). Therefore, daily sea level and temperature records were analyzed in two locations, Norfolk in the southern CB and Baltimore in the northern CB; surface currents from Coastal Ocean Dynamics Application Radar (CODAR) near the mouth of CB were also analyzed to examine connections between the CB and the Atlantic Ocean. Objective: This study determined the association between acute changes in physical activity, temperature and humidity and 24-hour subjective and objective hot flash experience.

Methods: Data collection occurred during the cooler months of the year in Western Massachusetts (October-April). Women aged 45-55 across 3 menopause stages (n=270) were instrumented with ambulatory monitors to continuously measure hot flashes, physical activity, temperature and humidity for 24-hours. Objective hot flashes were assessed via sternal skin conductance, and subjective hot flashes were recorded by pressing an event marker and data logging. Rising global temperatures due to climate change have caused declines in many species. For birds, temperature is a primary factor in nest site selection and nest success, so successful management will require temperature mitigation techniques. Secondary cavity nesting birds such as the Eastern Bluebird are particularly vulnerable as common occupants of nest boxes, which are often warmer inside than the outside ambient temperature. Temperatures exceeding 42°C can have numerous negative consequences for Bluebirds, including reducing hatching success and nestling growth. Objective:The objective of this study was to evaluate and determine thaw rate and time of strip steaks thawed using methods that are recommended by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and those commonly used by consumers.

Study Description:Strip steaks collected from a beef packing facility were randomly assigned a thaw method. Initially, steaks were vacuum packaged and then frozen at -40°F until thawed. The effect of storage temperature over 12 weeks was studied using dairy and non-dairy frozen desserts. Research was conducted to determine if higher freezer temperatures affect frozen dessert quality to reduce energy use associated with lower freezer temperatures. Samples were analyzed for ice crystal pore size using micrographs, grittiness by a trained sensory panel and weight loss during storage. Ice crystal size was determined using scanning electron microscopy and grittiness was measured on a 5-point ranking scale, with 1 being least gritty and 5 being most gritty. Marine heatwave data sets are calculated by NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information using Optimum Interpolation Sea Surface Temperature (OISST) data. The NOAA 1/4° OISST is a long-term Climate Data Record that incorporates observations from different platforms (satellites, ships, buoys and Argo floats) into a regular global grid. Predicting the reproductive phenology in perennial grasses is a major concern because it determines the quantity and quality of forage. It varies a lot depending on site, year and cultivar. The U.S. Gulf of Mexico contains the largest remaining wild oyster fishery in the world, but populations have declined in recent decades. A growing interest in off-bottom aquaculture that relies on triploid eastern oysters (Crassostrea virginica) has emerged in the Gulf region, yet these faster growing oysters suffer high mortality as adults during low salinity (<5) events in warmer summer months. The combined effects of low salinity and high temperature stress on early life stages of triploid oysters are unknown. Early life stages are particularly crucial to understand because triploid oysters do not occur naturally and must be reared in hatchery settings, requiring appropriate water conditions to yield the greatest survival and growth. Thus, we tested the effects of different temperatures (28 ºC and 32 ºC) and salinities (5, 10, and 15) on diploid and triploid oysters at three critical production stages: veliger, pediveliger, and spat. Veliger survival was significantly lower for triploids relative to diploid oysters at all experimental conditions, but triploid veligers had faster growth than diploids at 32 ºC and salinity of 15. Pediveliger settlement was not affected by ploidy type and was reduced only at high temperature (32 ºC) and the lowest salinity (5). Diploid spat showed highest survival at 28 ºC and 15 salinity, while triploids survived best at 32 ºC and 15 salinity. Triploid spat attained greater shell height compared to diploids in our 6- day exposures, but growth decreased for both ploidies at lower salinities. At the salinity and temperature levels examined, diploid early life stages performed best at 28 ºC and 15 salinity, whereas triploids were more successful at 32 ºC and 15 salinity. A broader understanding of the combined effects of environmental stressors will improve the success of hatchery production yields and the resulting economic and environmental benefits of the oyster industry.

Temperature is an important variable affecting the behavior and survival of aquatic organisms; however, little is known about the effects of size and corresponding developmental differences on aquatic insect temperature tolerance. We tested the critical thermal maximum (CTM) of large (head capsule width mean = 3.5 mm) and small (1.9 mm) specimens of Stenonema femoratum (Say) by raising the experimental temperature by 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5ºC per minute during laboratory CTM trials. Abiotic factors such as temperature and depth are known to affect aquatic insect populations and are thought to be major variables that directly impact how communities are assembled and populations distributed. The purpose of this study was to examine the role of temperature and depth in structuring C. areolaris populations within a temperate freshwater quarry.
