Impact Of Irrigation Applications At Soil Moisture Deficits On Plant Development And Yield Of Indeterminate And Determinate Soybean Varieties, Andy J. Brown Dec 2015

Impact Of Irrigation Applications At Soil Moisture Deficits On Plant Development And Yield Of Indeterminate And Determinate Soybean Varieties, Andy J. Brown

Theses and Dissertations

As the Mississippi River Alluvial Aquifer declines, it is the duty of soybean producers to become more efficient irrigators. Research was established in 2012 and 2013 in the Mississippi Delta to evaluate plant development and yield of an indeterminate soybean variety with irrigation initiated at the R1 producer standard and compared to initiation timings at the R2, R4, and R5 growth stages once a 2” deficit was reached according to the FAO-56 Penman-Monteith model. Research was also conducted to evaluate seeding rates in irrigated and non-irrigated systems in Starkville and Stoneville, MS in 2013 and 2014. These data indicate that …

A Functional Genomics Analysis Of Glycine Max Vesicle Membrane Fusion Genes In Relation To Infection By Heterodera Glycine, Keshav Sharma Aug 2015

A Functional Genomics Analysis Of Glycine Max Vesicle Membrane Fusion Genes In Relation To Infection By Heterodera Glycine, Keshav Sharma

Theses and Dissertations

Soybean cyst nematode (SCN), a major pathogen of soybean worldwide, causes huge losses in soybean production. Various approaches including cloning of genes to combat this devastating disease help to better understand the cellular function and immune responses of plants. Membrane fusion genes are the important regulatory parts of vesicular transport system, which works through packaging of intracellular compounds and delivering them to apoplast or nematode feeding sites to induce an incompatible reaction. The incompatible nature of membrane fusion proteins such as SNAP25, Munc18, Syntaxin, Synaptobrevin, NSF, Synaptotagmin and alpha-SNAP are conserved in eukaryotes and regulate the intracellular function to combat …

An Evaluation Of Corn Earworm Damage And Thresholds In Soybean, Brian Patrick Adams May 2015

An Evaluation Of Corn Earworm Damage And Thresholds In Soybean, Brian Patrick Adams

Theses and Dissertations

Interactions between corn earworm, Helicoverpa zea (Boddie), and soybean, Glycine max L. (Merrill), were investigated in the Mid-South to evaluate thresholds and damage levels. Field studies were conducted in both indeterminate and determinate modern cultivars to evaluate damage, critical injury levels, and soybean response to simulated corn earworm injury. Field studies were also conducted to evaluate the response of indeterminate cultivars to infestations of corn earworm. Field studies were also conducted to investigate the relationship between pyrethroid insecticide application and corn earworm oviposition in soybean. Results of field studies involving simulated corn earworm damage indicated the need for a dynamic …
