Resistance to pandemic response policies was observed globally throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This resistance has been linked by researchers to the prolonged duration and higher mortality rate of COVID-19 compared to previous pandemics, despite advancements in modern medicine, extensive surveillance networks and record vaccine production. However, the strategies implemented by public health officials during the COVID-19 pandemic closely mirrored those successful in mitigating past pandemics. To elucidate this disparity, a historical analysis encompassing the 1918, 1957, 1968, 2009, and Covid-19 pandemics was conducted within the city of Milwaukee. It is generally understood that administrative data at the level of the individual, family and wider population is fundamental to delivering client centred services which aim to support families and respond to, and reduce child abuse. The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has posed severe threats to humans and the geoenvironment. My paper examines the life of "Typhoid Mary" Mallon, and looks at how she has been depicted and vilified in popular culture. It asks why and how she has been remembered in history as the infamous “Typhoid Mary” and how her portrayal has been influenced by the attitudes and beliefs of the time and place of her life. I discuss her historical legacy through the lens of her three identities as a healthy carrier, Irish immigrant, and a working woman, researching both primary and secondary sources. An International Perspective On Battling The Bulge: Japan's Anti-Obesity Legislation And Its Potential Impact On Waistlines Around The World, Christin Lawler

This Comment identifies six factors which my be analyzed to predict the outcome of Japan's new "Metabo" legislation: (1) the compelling need for anti-obesity legislation; (2) the broad authority vested in Japanese physicians and medical policymakers; (3) the Japanese cultural emphasis on harmony; (4) the structure of the Japanese Constitution; (5) the legislation's enforcement mechanisms; and (6) the costs of the program. This Comment predicts that although the cost of implementing the program could pose a serious impediment to initiating the anti-obesity campaign on a national scale, the new legislation is likely to succeed in decreasing Japanese obesity.
