President Thomas Jefferson is a well-known figure, who is not well understood. His military policies are under-examined in the historiography. Yet, he had a tremendous impact on martial development in the Early Republic. Jefferson reshaped the military to suite his pragmatic republican ideals. His militia system expanded while the regulars were disbanded. The Navy was greatly decreased, and the remainder of his military was used for frontier exploration, riverine trade, road development, and other public works. This disrupted the precedent of strong federal military development as set by his predecessors: George Washington and John Adams. His reforms also left the …

This issue of the Wooster Voice features a series of updates on the Nuremberg Trials, disarmament of Japan, and strike updates. Also featured prominently on the first page is the announcement of the plan for closing the Navy V-5 Program, under which Wooster was used for the training of Navy cadet officers. The 26th annual homecoming dance is also documented, along with a letter remarking on the importance of the dance as the first post-WWII homecoming dance. On April 1, the Girls' Chorus will be holding their annual home concert at 8:15pm. The concert, unlike previous years, will be free of charge. The 1943 May Queen will be music major Marge Rydstrom. The oratory contest took place at Ohio Wesleyan University on March 20, many of the participants from the College of Wooster placed with honors.
