The Winding Path: Reflections On Preparing For A Career In Neuropsychology, Derek Mckay Phd
The Winding Path: Reflections On Preparing For A Career In Neuropsychology, Derek Mckay Phd
Journal of Neuropsychology and Behavioral Processes
Career decision-making can be a complicated process, particularly for Psychology majors who often find many areas of the discipline interesting. Students are often confronted with questions such as, “what do I really want to do?”, and “how much future education will I need to achieve my goals?” Moreover, there are often many uncertainties regarding how to take specific steps toward a particular professional direction in Psychology. In this article, neuropsychologist and university professor Derek McKay shares a unique perspective on his own process of finding his way toward a career as a neuropsychologist. He addresses a number of important steps …

Ot2b: The Creation Of A Targeted Pre-Professional Club And Educational Intervention To Increase Awareness Of And Interest In Occupational Therapy In A Diverse And Non-Traditional Undergraduate Student Population, Molly T. Rowland
Occupational Therapy Capstone Projects
Advocating for the profession of Occupational Therapy (OT) is important to help grow the profession, solidify professional identity, and to make the public aware of the services provided by OT. Advocating is also important to help increase the diversity of the profession, especially as there is a growing need for OT practitioners. Minority and non-traditional students often require more education about careers, and benefit from hands-on experiences and resources in pursuit of graduate school. Georgia Gwinnett College has a primarily minority and non-traditional student base, with many students interested in pursuing graduate school. Currently, there are few resources available for …
Understanding Peer Interactions In Undergraduate Engineering Education, Jack C. Elliott
Understanding Peer Interactions In Undergraduate Engineering Education, Jack C. Elliott
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Fall 2023 to Present
Whether they occur inside or outside the classroom, social interactions between undergraduate students play a key role in student success. As a result, engineering education researchers have sought to understand why students interact with certain peers, and which types of interactions relate to positive student outcomes. While existing studies show promising results for formal group assignments, most have been conducted in a single undergraduate course. Because important student interactions occur outside and inside courses, more research is needed to fully understand (a) why students choose to, or not to, interact with other students, and (b) how these interactions relate to …
The Interdisciplinary Music Degree: Music Education, Music Performance, And Music And Fine Arts Administration, Edwin R. Williams
The Interdisciplinary Music Degree: Music Education, Music Performance, And Music And Fine Arts Administration, Edwin R. Williams
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Despite numerous available careers and degrees in music education, music performance, and music administration, perspectives of many music educators and students desiring an interdisciplinary music degree program inclusive of music education, music performance, and music administration have yet to be expressed or examined publicly. The notion of 21st-century skills presents a demand for flexibility across most facets of K-12 and higher education. These skills necessitate fluency in problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration, thus, music education must move toward more flexible and rigorous preparatory music training programs to remain consistent with current trends. Most undergraduate and graduate degree programs in music …
Diversity In Undergraduate Research & Scholarship: A First Generation’S Vision, Marzell I. Gray, Jazmyn Gray
Diversity In Undergraduate Research & Scholarship: A First Generation’S Vision, Marzell I. Gray, Jazmyn Gray
Survive & Thrive: A Journal for Medical Humanities and Narrative as Medicine
I am a first-generation, Black college graduate who learned later in my career of the importance of starting research and scholarly work earlier in a career, so you are not playing catch-up. I began an undergraduate research program for diverse undergraduate students with this in mind.
One big challenge includes accessibility at an institution that wants to create more inclusive environments, but may lack the structure, funds, and tools it needs to create this type of environment. The Undergraduate Underrepresented Research Program (UURP) was developed after beginning my newly appointed tenure-track position at a predominantly white institution. I’d hoped to …

Additionally, this study sought to clarify different types of stressors and their individual contribution to Sleep Quality Risk and Subjective Mental Health. The sample consisted of 65 female undergraduate students at a university in London, Ontario. A Kendall’s tau-b correlation analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between Food Insecurity and Sleep Quality Risk. Personal And Social Characteristics As Predictors Of First-Year Students' Transition To University, Emily L. Pearce Miss
Brescia Psychology Undergraduate Honours Theses
The current study investigated personal (i.e., the Big Five personality traits, academic resilience, and academic engagement) and social characteristics (sense of school belongingness) as predictors of first-year students' transition to university. The study also sought to create a regression model that demonstrated the relative importance of each factor concerning a student's transition while also investigating which factors best predict one's transition overall. The sample consisted of 81 female and two non-binary-identifying students at a university in London, Ontario. A Pearson correlation analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between a student's sense of school belongingness and a successful transition to university. …

Quality Advancement in Nursing Education - Avancées en formation infirmière
Abstract
A scoping review was undertaken to inform the development of a peer mentoring program in the nursing faculty of an official-language francophone minority post-secondary institution in Western Canada. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with mentorship coordinators in seven undergraduate nursing programs across Canada. The results of the semi-structured interviews were used to corroborate the information gathered during the scoping review.
Analysis of the scoping review showed that the mentoring programs were designed based on a perceived need expressed by faculty and students. All programs involved a multi-stage implementation and evaluation process. Many articles focused on the benefits of implementing mentoring …

Experiences Of Undergraduate Nursing Faculty Adapting To The Changes Of The Next Generation Nclex, Marlene Kilpack Whiteside
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Undergraduate nursing faculty are responsible for preparing nursing students for patient care in a dynamic health care setting and are challenged with meeting the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) change to the Next Generation NCLEX (NGN). The National Council of State Boards of Nursing recommended the incorporation of the Clinical Judgment Measurement Model (CJMM) and competency-based curriculum in preparation for NGN testing that began in 2023. Understanding how faculty experienced and adapted to changes in curriculum, patient-centered instruction, and NGN testing may help future nurse faculty in adapting. The purpose of this basic exploratory, qualitative study guided by the achievement …
