A Brief Treatise On Bayesian Inverse Regression., Debashis Chatterjee Dr.
Doctoral Theses
Inverse problems, where in a broad sense the task is to learn from the noisy response about some unknown function, usually represented as the argument of some known functional form, has received wide attention in the general scientific disciplines. However, apart from the class of traditional inverse problems, there exists another class of inverse problems, which qualify as more authentic class of inverse problems, but unfortunately did not receive as much attention. In a nutshell, the other class of inverse problems can be described as the problem of predicting the covariates corresponding to given responses and the rest of the data. …

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
This study proposes a new family of distributions based on the half logistic distribution. With the new family, the baseline distributions gain flexibility through additional shape parameters. The important statistical properties of the proposed family are derived. A new generalization of the Weibull distribution is used to introduce a location-scale regression model for the censored response variable. The utility of the introduced models is demonstrated in survival analysis and estimation of the system reliability. Three data sets are analyzed. According to the empirical results, it is observed that the proposed family gives better results than other existing models.

A Testing And Experimenting Environment For Microscopic Traffic Simulation Utilizing Virtual Reality And Augmented Reality, Mahmud Hasan
Computational Modeling & Simulation Engineering Theses & Dissertations
Microscopic traffic simulation (MTS) is the emulation of real-world traffic movements in a virtual environment with various traffic entities. Typically, the movements of the vehicles in MTS follow some predefined algorithms, e.g., car-following models, lane changing models, etc. Moreover, existing MTS models only provide a limited capability of two- and/or three-dimensional displays that often restrict the user’s viewpoint to a flat screen. Their downscaled scenes neither provide a realistic representation of the environment nor allow different users to simultaneously experience or interact with the simulation model from different perspectives. These limitations neither allow the traffic engineers to effectively disseminate their …

Approaches To Improve The Execution Time Of A Quantum Network Simulation, Joseph B. Tippit
Theses and Dissertations
Evaluating quantum networks is an expensive and time-consuming task that benefits from simulation. A potential improvement is to utilize GPUs, namely by leveraging NVIDIA's programming framework, CUDA. To avoid performance pitfalls of higher level languages and programming models such as the so called "two language problem," the Julia Programming Language provides the basis for the development effort. This research develops a two module prototype quantum network simulation framework using GPUs and Julia. Performance of the software is measured and compared against other languages such as MATLAB.

Shortcut Nitrogen Removal In Photo-Sequencing Batch Reactor, Experiments, Dynamic Model And Full-Scale Design, Sahand Iman Shayan
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Nitrogen is one of the essential elements for life; however, inefficient use of nitrogen creates major environmental problems. Nitrogen-rich streams from urban areas, farms, and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) lead to surface and groundwater contamination, resulting in eutrophication, hypoxia, and notable environmental, public health and economic damage. Ammonia is a form of nitrogen that can be created during industrial or biological nitrogen fixation or decomposition of biomass. Anaerobic digesters (ADs) in WWTP generate biogas from collected sludge from primary and secondary clarifiers to achieve energy recovery in the plant. However, sidestream effluent from dewatering AD sludge contains high concentrations of …

Enhancing Serviceability And Resiliency Of Transportation Networks Based On Topological Credentials And Systematic Design Interventions, Md Ashraf Ahmed
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Recent advancements in network science showed that the topological credentials (i.e., rank of relative importance) of network components (such as nodes and links), carry significant implications as it is critical to know which components contribute the most to the overall network performance. For transportation networks, critical components (roads, bridges) may become inaccessible for adjacent traffic due to day-to-day congestion or external disruptions (i.e., man-made or natural hazards) that significantly reduce the level of service. Hence, topological credentials of critical network components based on their connectivity need to be assessed to enhance the serviceability, i.e., improved travel time experience as well …

With Due Respect For Humanity: Engaging Affectivity Through Simulation In Catholic Seminary Formation, Marie Diane Pitt-Payne
With Due Respect For Humanity: Engaging Affectivity Through Simulation In Catholic Seminary Formation, Marie Diane Pitt-Payne
Dissertations (1934 -)
Since 1992, Catholic seminaries have approached the education of future priests through a lens of four areas of formation: intellectual, human, pastoral, and spiritual. Although human formation is considered foundational in the formation process, it has not been effectively integrated into seminary curriculum. The language of integral personalism was introduced into the formation landscape by Pope John Paul II, but this anthropology has not sufficiently informed seminary pedagogy. There is a still a subordination of the affective sphere in seminaries, particularly in intellectual formation. Medical schools have developed a pedagogical method that inserts real emotion into the educational process. This …

Transmission Data Rate Control Based Mechanism For Congestion Control In Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (Vanet), Srihari Jayachandran
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET) supporting Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (v2I) communication can increase the efficiency and safety of the road transportation systems. VANET typically uses wireless communication technology and in scenarios with high vehicle densities, the communication channel faces congestion, negatively impacting the reliability of the safety applications. To prevent this, the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI) has proposed the Decentralized Congestion Control (DCC) methodology to effectively control the channel load, by controlling various message transmission parameters like message rate, data rate, and transmission power. Currently, most research works focus on the transmission power to control congestion, while the …
