A Winner's Mentality: Building An Environmental Dynasty Through Sustainable Sports, Alexander J. Heilman
A Winner's Mentality: Building An Environmental Dynasty Through Sustainable Sports, Alexander J. Heilman
Student Theses 2015-Present
This paper examines the short- and long-term benefits of sustainability in professional sports and how it can be used as a platform for educating others on sustainable practices, focusing mainly on the 4 major sports leagues of North America as well as European Soccer. Chapter 1 provides an overview of the sports industry and the effects it has had on the environment. The sports industry’s relationship with environmental issues, such as pollution and waste, are also examined through case studies and data analysis. Chapter 2 explores the history of the sports industry since 1900 and how it has evolved into …
Exploring The Effect Of Cultural Sensitivity In Public Relations Campaigns, Amanda N. Christian
Exploring The Effect Of Cultural Sensitivity In Public Relations Campaigns, Amanda N. Christian
Senior Honors Projects, 2020-current
This study examines the importance of perceived cultural sensitivity on consumer attitudes and intent to support. Participants were randomly assigned to campaign messaging with a perceived high level of cultural sensitivity or a perceived low level of cultural sensitivity. Findings reveal that higher perceived levels of culturally sensitive messages generate more positive attitudes and increase the willingness of consumers to demonstrate supportive communication and intent to purchase. Other hypotheses comparing the response between two groups—self-identifying Hispanic and non-Hispanic respondents— aimed to distinguish the role origin plays in determining how important cultural sensitivity is to the perception of the organization. These …
(End)Zones And (Out)Fields Of Production: Contemporary Conditions Of Labor And Artistic Critique, Stephanie G. Anderson
(End)Zones And (Out)Fields Of Production: Contemporary Conditions Of Labor And Artistic Critique, Stephanie G. Anderson
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
In a 2013 exhibition publication titled It’s the Political Economy, Stupid!, John Roberts made the observation that “Over the last ten years we have become witness to an extraordinary assimilation of art theory and practice into the categories of labor and production.” Whereas once art claimed for itself a critical capacity in relation to the larger system of capitalist domination by its status as a putatively ‘autonomous’ sphere of production from which it leveraged its difference and critique, today it is largely acknowledged that there is no longer any such ‘outside’ to be aspired to. If, in the recent …
Internationalization Of Higher Education: Definition And Description, Furkat Sharipov
Internationalization Of Higher Education: Definition And Description, Furkat Sharipov
Mental Enlightenment Scientific-Methodological Journal
Higher education has now become a part of the wider globalization process. Due to globalization, the internationalization of higher education is regarded as one of the leading trends that determine the value foundations of the functioning of modern universities. The internationalization activities of a university in modern conditions can be perceived as a value that requires its introduction into the general system of norms that form the academic culture of an educational institution. This article investigates the concept of higher education internationalization, which has become common practice for almost all higher education institutions all over the world. It discusses …
Could Deglobalization Kill Transnational Cooperation? A Brief Historical Lesson, Virág Rab
Could Deglobalization Kill Transnational Cooperation? A Brief Historical Lesson, Virág Rab
Journal of Global Awareness
The study examines a historical period referred to in the literature as deglobalization. After the First World War, economic nationalism gained ground in some countries, mainly for political reasons, characterized by protectionist economic policies and the pursuit of autarchy/self-sufficiency. There were no international regulations or well-functioning international institutions that would have facilitated economic cooperation. How did those who worked hard to reconstruct the European economy react to this situation? This study presents this through the process of developing an informal network of bankers, and it indirectly highlights some important links between informal networks, globalization, and deglobalization.
Infrapolitical Passages: Global Turmoil, Narco-Accumulation, And The Post-Sovereign State [Toc], Gareth Williams
Infrapolitical Passages: Global Turmoil, Narco-Accumulation, And The Post-Sovereign State [Toc], Gareth Williams
Literature
This book proposes to clear a way through some of the dominant political determinations and violent symptoms of contemporary globalization. It does this in in order to make a case for “infrapolitics” as an enactment of intellectual responsibility in the face of a tumultuous world of war and of technological value extraction on a planetary scale. In Infrapolitical Passages the politics of contemporary global capital is a race to the bottom of reason itself, extended in the wake of the subordination of all forms of living to the economized relation between means and ends. It is this relation which, thanks …

Global Citizenship Education Starts With Teacher Training And Professional Development, Evan Saperstein
Global Citizenship Education Starts With Teacher Training And Professional Development, Evan Saperstein
Journal of Global Education and Research
In recent years, the idea of global citizenship has grown in scholarly circles and developed into a nascent discipline known as global citizenship education. As a general matter, global citizenship education strives to deepen cross-cultural understanding through the study of current transnational issues. This qualitative, interpretivist case study examined the roles and responsibilities of global studies teachers at an urban New Jersey public high school. The study included interviews with an administrator, two global studies teachers, and six students enrolled in the second sequence of a two-year course in the global studies curriculum; as well as observations and analysis of …
Riots Contra Global Capital: Globalization And The Bangladeshi Workers’ Movement, Adam Benjamin
Riots Contra Global Capital: Globalization And The Bangladeshi Workers’ Movement, Adam Benjamin
West Virginia University Historical Review
“Fast fashion” and “globalization,” often mentioned in the same sentence, make their way to the headlines fairly frequently. While the conditions of low-wage garment workers are a subject of criticism for clothing brands, few know of the active workers’ movement in Bangladesh to better them. This movement, often unorganized and violent, takes place against the backdrop of urban growth, rapid industrialization, and factory disaster. Riots and piecemeal wage negotiations often go hand in hand in Bangladesh, as the pressures of the world economy exert themselves on Bangladesh’s fragile and unstable garment industry. This paper examines the history and developments of …
Global Innovation Law, P. Sean Morris
Global Innovation Law, P. Sean Morris
Northern Illinois University Law Review
This Article is about opening up a debate on global innovation law. The Article argues that a new hybrid area of transglobal law has emerged in the past decade due to the rise of various disruptive and technological challenges to law beyond the state. As such, the Article argues that global innovation law is a new field that encapsulates the dynamics of law making and regulatory governance in how law operates in a transglobal environment. With the rapid changes in law and regulation to meet the demands of the global economy--the interaction of law and these changes at the domestic …
The Impact Of Foreign Direct Investment On The Ecological Footprints Of Nations, Nadia Doytch
The Impact Of Foreign Direct Investment On The Ecological Footprints Of Nations, Nadia Doytch
Ateneo School of Government Publications
We study the effects of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the rate of exhaustion of bioproductive physical land. We test for differential ecological performance of FDI in developed vs. developing countries, as well as in “clean” vs. “dirty” sectors. We examine the impact of six sector-level FDI flows on four ecological footprints (EF): Consumption EF, Production EF, Imports EF, and Exports EF, compiled by the Global Footprint Network. We estimate a dynamic panel model incorporating an Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) and differentiating across country development levels. The findings are intriguing. First, High Income countries tend to …
International Organizations And World Order, Shpendim Oxha, Fatos Rushiti
International Organizations And World Order, Shpendim Oxha, Fatos Rushiti
UBT International Conference
International organization is a relatively new practice of the functioning of societies around the globe. Both as a practice and as a defined idea, it appears relatively late in history. Although various forms of wider organization of some societies (states) in temporary unions are also noticed in ancient civilizations, yet this is not the essence of this phenomenon in the contemporary meaning of the word. Ancient communities were of a military nature. Unions of some against others were formed for military needs and as soon as wars ended, such unions disbanded. However, the development of capitalism even in modern times …

The Impact Of Digital Technologies On Business Internationalization Process, Ylber Limani, Zana Bashota Broja
UBT International Conference
This paper discusses and analyses the impact of digital technology on business internationalization with focus on a case study of a developing country. There is evidence showing digital technology contributed on the development and advancement of the competitive international market. Accordingly, many companies are considering the change adopts the business model. Businesses lean towards believing that the use of digital technology enables them building the better relationship with customers and suppliers, improving their business process, and in some cases even simulating them in restructuring the entire business industry. In well-established businesses, technology has become the basis of every work in …

Gwu Senior’S Research Examines How Fast Fashion Violates Human Rights Laws By Office, Office Of University Communications
Gardner-Webb NewsCenter Archive
Gardner-Webb University senior Carlee Winstead, of Wilmington, N.C., plans a career in the field of social justice. “Ideally, I want to work for an organization that advocates for policy reform that would better the lives of those who are disproportionately at risk in their communities,” she affirmed. “All people are deserving of justice, and nothing should stand in the way of them not being equal to the person next to them, especially policies that exist in those communities.”
The Integrative Effects Of Global Legal Pluralism, Monica Hakimi
The Integrative Effects Of Global Legal Pluralism, Monica Hakimi
Book Chapters
International lawyers widely understand that legal pluralism is a fact of global life and that it can, in certain settings, be desirable. But many still approach it with some trepidation. A prominent skeptical claim is that pluralist structures lack the integrative resources that unify people around a shared governance project. This claim has been prominent with respect to two kinds of conflicts that are routine in international law: (1) conflicts that play out within a single international legal arrangement, and (2) conflicts that cut across multiple legal arrangements. For both, the skeptical claim is directed at the pluralist structure itself. …
Religion, Place, And Identity At The Intersection Of Cultural Bricolage: The Miami Santo Daime Church Revisited, Alfonso Matas
Religion, Place, And Identity At The Intersection Of Cultural Bricolage: The Miami Santo Daime Church Revisited, Alfonso Matas
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation is an exploration of the Santo Daime Church in Miami, focusing on the challenges of balancing institutional stability with continual growth and innovation. Santo Daime—whose central ritual entails the consumption of the mind-altering ayahuasca brew—is a new religious movement that amalgamates indigenous Amazonian, Afro-Brazilian, and popular Catholic traditions. Between June 2016 and December 2018, I employed participant observation, semi-structured interviews, exegesis of sacred songs, and document analysis to investigate the meanings and lived experiences of church leaders and adherents as they relate to their religious identity and agency. Specifically, this study asks three research questions: What global processes …
Examining The Relationship Between Legal Origin And Levels Of Economic Globalization, Maeve B. Dwyer
Examining The Relationship Between Legal Origin And Levels Of Economic Globalization, Maeve B. Dwyer
Student Publications
State institutions that came into being centuries ago have taken on different roles in the post-World War II period of globalization. These institutions may have changed significantly as their roles have become greater to accommodate participation in the global political economy. The theory I develop in this paper indicates that the legal origins of a state continue to have a relationship with its current level of economic globalization. This theory is based on previous research produced by several other scholars. My research focuses on the English common law origin and I hypothesize that countries with this legal origin are more …
Unparalleled Opportunities Or Unmitigated Risk? Economic Globalization And Its Impact On State Capacity In The Developing World, John M. Zak
Student Publications
Economic globalization is a phenomenon driving major developments in the international system. With the force of this phenomenon shaping events within states and interactions among them, the question of economic globalization’s impact on state capacity is worthy of an in-depth analysis. In this work I use economic globalization as the central explanatory variable and state capacity as the dependent variable and seek to establish an empirical relationship between the two that will offer the social science community a better understanding of how this phenomenon is shaping state capacity in developing countries. Based on available scholarship, I argue that economic globalization …
Potentially Terminal Conditions: Economic Globalization And Ecological Footprint, Raymond A. Wiseley
Potentially Terminal Conditions: Economic Globalization And Ecological Footprint, Raymond A. Wiseley
Student Publications
This paper studies the relationship between economic globalization and environmental footprint. It hypothesizes that economic globalization will increase the negative environmental impact. The study covers theories for and against this argument, focusing especially on the validity of an environmental Kuznets curve, market-based solutions, and other suggested policies. It then gathers data and tests the relationship using a regression analysis. The results show a statistically significant positive relationship between economic globalization and ecological impact. The study concludes by discussing these results and proposing future steps.

Global Cities And Socioeconomic Inequality: A Pathways Inquiry, Herman Boschken
Global Cities And Socioeconomic Inequality: A Pathways Inquiry, Herman Boschken
Faculty Publications, School of Management
Inequality in metropolitan areas is part of a paradoxical triangle of competing motives over resources allocation. Chief among inequality/equity rivals is the penchant for urban economic development, but in recent decades, ecological sustainability has also become increasingly important in this triangle. To understand inequality in global cities in such a context, one must recognize the intensity of economic development motives for those particular metropolitan areas seeking to maintain worldwide centrality, connectivity and command over the forces of globalization. As a comparative analysis of 53 large U.S. metropolitan areas, this paper examines the apparatus of a global city in response to …
"A Glass Of Milk Strengthens A Nation." Law Development, And China's Dairy Tale, Xiaoqian Hu
"A Glass Of Milk Strengthens A Nation." Law Development, And China's Dairy Tale, Xiaoqian Hu
Journal of Food Law & Policy
Historically, China was a soybean nation and not a dairy nation. Today, China has become the world’s largest dairy importer and third largest dairy producer, and dairy has surpassed soybeans in both consumption volume and sales revenue. This article investigates the legal, political, and socioeconomic factors that drove this transformation, and building upon fieldwork in two Chinese counties, examines the transformation’s socioeconomic impact on China’s several hundred million farmers and ex-farmers and political impact on the Chinese regime. The article makes two arguments. First, despite changes of times and political regimes, China’s dairy tale is a tale about chasing the …
St. Thomas Aquinas And The Third Hellenization Period, Demetri Kantarelis
St. Thomas Aquinas And The Third Hellenization Period, Demetri Kantarelis
Comparative Civilizations Review
In this paper, I assert that currently the world has been experiencing the Third Hellenization Period that started with the Italian Renaissance, instigated by the teachings of the theologian and philosopher St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274 CE). Unlike philosophers in previous periods (First and Second Hellenization as well as Medieval), St. Thomas preached that Truth is a function of both Natural Revelation and Supernatural Revelation. This resulted in, simultaneously, Christianizing Aristotle (St. Thomas’ most referenced philosopher) and Aristotleizing Christianity, thus opening up the doors to human reason that had been muted during the Medieval centuries.
I also assert that the basic …
Reflections On Globalization From Behind The Closed Quarantined Door, Andrzej Sankowski
Reflections On Globalization From Behind The Closed Quarantined Door, Andrzej Sankowski
Journal of Global Awareness
There are opinions that coronavirus will cause the end of globalization. Using examples of the European Union’s and the United States’ reaction to the pandemic crisis and other factors, this essay argues that the coronavirus will not destroy globalization but transform it into another form. This essay identifies some evolving trends and indicators triggering certain processes and suggests directions and solutions that seem to be emerging. Conditions before and reactions to the pandemic are influencing the process and the outcomes.
Multiple Intelligences In Chinese Language Teaching In The Globalized Society, Yunfei Wang
Multiple Intelligences In Chinese Language Teaching In The Globalized Society, Yunfei Wang
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
The Theory of Multiple Intelligences (MI), first proposed by Howard Gardner in 1983, critiqued traditional IQ tests that focus on humans’ logical and linguistic capabilities and listed the possibilities of human brains processing all fields of intelligence, including musical, spatial, kinesthetic, etc. The MI Theory has been recognized for its importance in foreign language teaching in a variety of languages, including ESL and Spanish. From my research, the use of Multiple Intelligences (MIs) in Chinese language teaching is not frequently discussed with the characteristics of each intelligence in the context of the different techniques in teaching Chinese. My paper aims …

This paper aims at filling existing research by examining the impact of corporate governance and ownership structure on firm performance using cross-sectional data from companies in the MENA region for the years 2009-2013. The results indicate that higher ownership concentration is associated with higher returns. Furthermore, firms with higher international ownership share tend to perform better than those with only local private and/or state ownership. The results suggest some prevalent features with respect to ownership and performance of firms in the MENA region. Due to the volatile social and business environment, these firms operate in, they may be particularly dependent …

Remote acculturation (RA) is a modern form of acculturation common among youth, which results from contact with a distant culture via the 4 Ts of globalization (trade, technology, tourism, and transnationalism). This article provides an introduction to RA by describing the what, who, how, where, and why of RA, summarizing its implications for youth development and health, and offering additional resources for student/classroom use. Utilizing our perspectives as psychology researchers and secondary school educators spanning 19 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and South America, we supplement research findings from our lab and others with real-world illustrations from our …
Globalization, Immigration, And Cultural Change: Conditions That Predict Shifts In Nationalistic Attitudes, Kelly Trail
Globalization, Immigration, And Cultural Change: Conditions That Predict Shifts In Nationalistic Attitudes, Kelly Trail
Dissertations
Globalization is on the rise across the globe. In many instances, nationalism appears to be, too, as evidenced by the anti-immigrant and “nation first” rhetoric and success of presidential candidates, such as Donald Trump in the United States and Sebastian Pinera in Chile. However, the author questioned whether nationalistic attitudes are truly on the rise across the globe and what conditions cause some countries to shift toward nationalistic attitudes in the face of rising globalization, while others to shift away from it. She utilizes descriptive statistics, case studies, and fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis to analyze the conditions that influence …
Combining Competition And Cooperation: A Guide To U.S. Space Relations, Paul Prentice, Nathan Waite
Combining Competition And Cooperation: A Guide To U.S. Space Relations, Paul Prentice, Nathan Waite
Liberty University Journal of Statesmanship & Public Policy
Space is the future for humanity. Whether that is a future of amity and cooperation, or competition and conflict depends in large part to what America makes it. While America cannot afford to entirely abandon cooperation with the world in the final frontier, neither can it afford to cede the advantage in a new field of potential warfare to adversaries in China and Russia. What is needed is a moderate path of competition where necessary and cooperation where beneficial, in order to most fully advance the cause of American national security. By utilizing arms treaties to prevent Chinese domination, while …
