There is a critical need for early intervention strategies that prevent violence and foster humanity and well-being. All organisms face a constant barrage of environmental stresses. Single-cell organisms such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, or common Baker’s yeast, must rely solely on cellular responses in order to survive. This response must occur in a rapid and highly coordinated manner to quickly inhibit all unnecessary processes and shuttle all available resources to those necessary for survival. One method that cells utilize for rapid protein regulation is the use of post-translational modifications. Enzymes within the cell add or remove a variety of chemical modifications, thus altering the local chemical environment of a protein. This creates a conformational change in the protein …

A global inventory of early instrumental meteorological measurements is compiled. It comprises thousands of series, many of which have not been digitized, pointing to the potential of weather data rescue.Instrumental meteorological measurements from periods prior to the start of national weather services are designated “early instrumental data”. They have played an important role in climate research as they allow daily-to-decadal variability and changes of temperature, pressure, and precipitation, including extremes, to be addressed. Journal of Hip Hop Studies

In this paper, an Aboriginal rapper and settler-Australian Indigenous Studies lecturer collaborate to provide an overview of the Aboriginal Australian Hip Hop scene. We contextualize the development of Aboriginal Hip Hop as part of a long postcolonial tradition of Aboriginal engagement with Black transnationalism. By analysing rap lyrics, Hip Hop videos, and related commentary, we demonstrate the ways in which Aboriginal hip hoppers have adapted elements of Hip Hop culture to suit their own cultures, histories, and structural position as a colonized minority under the rule of a modern settler-colonial state. The spatiality of culture, specifically Hip Hop, and the reverberations between space and identity are the core concern of this essay. In deconstructing and contextualizing the concept of the Global South by discussing the practices of respective Hip Hop communities, this paper aims at laying bare the oversimplifications inherent in those seemingly natural spatial dimensions. The Global South can, thus, not be understood as a concise and objective term. The extent of actor heterogeneity is known to influence the outcomes in natural resource commons, and scholars have recently begun addressed the impact of heterogeneity on knowledge commons creation and sustainability. There is increasing evidence to challenge the dominant theory that heterogeneity is uniformly disadvantageous, but little is known about heterogeneity in knowledge commons. Here, we analyse heterogeneity as it applies to rules for governing a knowledge commons – the DNA barcode commons. In an online program that simulates management of a global company, a team of business students from Gardner-Webb University climbed to first place, achieving three top-10 rankings for three weeks in a row. The students in Dr. Christine Sutton’s Business Strategy course competed against 546 teams from 35 colleges and universities in America and around the world. Through the GLO-BUS program, teams of students use strategic management principles to run fictional companies that are racing for global market leadership in two product categories: wearable video cameras and sophisticated camera-equipped copter drones.

Wildfires cause devastating losses in human lives, infrastructure and forests as well as considerable financial costs for suppression and rebuilding. Imagining, designing and building a CubeSat constellation to counter and prevent such catastrophic events in the near-future has become possible through recent technological advancements.

As initial systems engineering design requirements have been derived through interviews with various potential user stakeholders, research based on publications and calculations.
