Evaluation Of A “Flipped Classroom” Approach In Management Education, Ole Jakob Bergfjord, Tarjei Heggernes
Evaluation Of A “Flipped Classroom” Approach In Management Education, Ole Jakob Bergfjord, Tarjei Heggernes
Journal of University Teaching & Learning Practice
In this paper, a “flipped classroom” approach is evaluated using three different datasets. We use student evaluations of the “flipped classroom” in particular, in addition to regular course evaluations and exam results for the past three years in order to allow for statistical comparisons. Overall, the results are quite positive. Among the interesting effects, students report that they prepare better for lectures, are more satisfied with the course overall, and achieve slightly better grades. In particular, fewer students receive very low grades. On the one hand, we argue that our results support more experiments with technology to improve education. On …
Evaluation Of The Nursing Handoff Process From Emergency Department To In-Patient Unit, Yana Marutyan
Evaluation Of The Nursing Handoff Process From Emergency Department To In-Patient Unit, Yana Marutyan
Master's Projects and Capstones
Handoff, or transition in care, is known to be a danger point in the patient care process for a long time. Ineffective communication during handoff is one of the most common identified cause of catastrophic or sentinel events in hospitals (The Joint Commission, 2015). Emergency department (ED) to in-patient unit handoff is particularly vulnerable to medical errors due to high workload, time constraints, different approaches to patient care, and lack of established relationships between care providers (Ong & Coiera, 2011; Hilligoss & Cohen, 2012).
The purpose of this project was to examine and review a current process of ED to …

Design, Synthesis, And Evaluation Of Aryl Hydantoins And Ureas As Antischistosomal Agents, Chunkai Wang
Theses & Dissertations
Schistosomiasis is a tropical parasitic disease caused by infections with flukes of the genus Schistosoma, affecting as many as 440 million individuals worldwide, with 779 million living at risk of infection. A new drug for schistosomiasis is urgently needed as praziquantel (PZQ) is currently the drug of last resort and the development of resistance cannot be ignored, particularly in view of its large-scale use in many endemic countries. Furthermore, PZQ is active against adult but not juvenile schistosomes; this may be an important factor in the frequently observed treatment ‘failures’ in areas endemic for schistosomiasis.
The introduction of PZQ in …

Perceptions Of Effectiveness Of School Counselors With Former Graduates In A Trio College Program, Marguerite Ohrtman Dr., Sarah Cronin, Erik Torgerson, Marin Thuen, Emily Colton
Journal of Applied Research on Children: Informing Policy for Children at Risk
The context and variables that affect at-risk students are constantly changing. It is imperative that school counselors understand the risk factors for students and the cultural and social contexts the individual lives within. Working with at-risk students is even more challenging with the millennial generation. The culture in this generation promotes instant gratification as society has reinforced that all individuals will succeed. At-risk students in this generation can be in disbelief of even being at-risk and may assume that others will solve their problems. Federally funded TRIO programs have shown to a positive impact on at-risk student development. Although there …

Elementary Principal Perceptions Of The Tennessee Educator Acceleration Model, Jason W. Vance
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The Tennessee Educator Acceleration Model (TEAM) had been in a state of reform since being awarded the Race to the Top Grant. Few teachers admit that an evaluation influenced them significantly; additionally, few administrators agreed that when they evaluated a teacher, it did not significantly affect the teacher or students. The purpose of this qualitative study was to determine the perceptions of building‑level principals regarding the effectiveness (i.e., increased teacher participation and quality) and efficiency (i.e., produces the required results) of the TEAM in regard to teacher evaluations. Four elementary school principals from East Tennessee participated in the study. The …

Three Empirical Investigations Into The Logic Of Evaluation And Valuing Practices, Satoshi Ozeki
Dissertations
This three-paper dissertation investigates the logic of evaluation proposed by Michael Scriven using two different methods of inquiry: content analysis and a survey method. Scriven’s logic of evaluation is one of the central concepts in evaluation, but has not been empirically investigated. Therefore, the purpose of this three-paper dissertation is to accumulate empirical knowledge on Scriven’s logic of evaluation to investigate the extent to which evaluators follow his logic and their perceptions of and familiarity with his logic. Furthermore, this dissertation aims to explore valuing practices in terms of Scriven’s logic of evaluation. Scriven’s logic of evaluation is important because …
A Formative Evaluation Of A Program Providing Support To College Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Kourtney Kay Bakalyar
A Formative Evaluation Of A Program Providing Support To College Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Kourtney Kay Bakalyar
Dissertations
Young adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are attending institutions of higher education more than ever before (Smith, 2007). All college students with disabilities have the right to accommodations under the American with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA; P.L. 110-325); however, these accommodations frequently do not address barriers that prevent students with ASD from successfully completing their academic programs. The Autism Services Center at a public, four-year university provides services to its college students with ASD to address difficulties with communication and social skills, unique emotional and behavior characteristics, insufficient executive function, and difficulties with independent living skills. …

The Relationship Between Instructional Strategies And Teacher Evaluation In Michigan Public Schools, Stephen D. Laatsch
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this quantitative study was to determine whether teachers altered instructional strategies based on their local school district’s teacher evaluation framework. Further, if changes were made to their use of instructional strategies, specific factors that influenced the changes were explored. This information is important because school districts across Michigan spend time, energy, and money for new teacher evaluation frameworks. Thus, it is essential to know if these frameworks change the use of instructional strategies in the classroom.
Teachers in 10 southeastern Michigan public school districts were surveyed to determine use of research-based instructional strategies before and after the …

The Journal of Extension
Awards are the most conventionally accepted method for proving to others that your work is necessary, complete, and effective. The key to winning awards is demonstrating that clients' needs, program objectives, and results are directly linked. Most awards require impact documentation, which is often challenging to generate. Yet impact documentation is necessary for others to be able to differentiate a poor program from a successful one. This article discusses the necessary elements of a quality Extension program and outlines a method of effectively crafting an associated award application.

How Do You Measure Up? Finding Fit Between Foundations And Their Evaluation Functions, Julia Coffman, Tanya Beer
How Do You Measure Up? Finding Fit Between Foundations And Their Evaluation Functions, Julia Coffman, Tanya Beer
The Foundation Review
As the number of foundations has grown, the philosophies and ways of working across the sector have diversified. This variance means that there is no one right model for how a foundation’s evaluation function should be designed. It is imperative for a foundation to think carefully about how the structure, position, focus, resources, and practices of its evaluation function can best fit its own needs and aspirations.
This article focuses on questions foundations can ask to assess that fit, and the specific considerations that can inform these decisions. It draws on 2015 benchmarking research conducted by the Center for Evaluation …

Image Reconstruction And Evaluation: Applications On Micro-Surfaces And Lenna Image Representation, Mohammad A. Mayyas
Engineering Technologies Faculty Publications
This article develops algorithms for the characterization and the visualization of micro-scale features using a small number of sample points, with the goal of mitigating the measurement shortcomings, which are often destructive or time consuming. The popular measurement techniques that are used in imaging of micro-surfaces include the 3D stylus or interferometric profilometry and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), where both could represent the micro-surface characteristics in terms of 3D dimensional topology and greyscale image, respectively. Such images could be highly dense; therefore, traditional image processing techniques might be computationally expensive. We implement the algorithms in several case studies to rapidly …

In many sports, such as American football, accumulations of mild traumatic brain injuries have been suggested as a possible link to neurodegeneration and future mental disorders. With head impacts occurring at all levels of competition and in different sports, it is critical to develop an accurate method for quantifying the effects of head impacts and determining the efficacy of helmets. This study examines the derivation of different dimensionless numbers and ascertains the critical factors needed to predict the effects of head impacts, specifically the resulting accelerations from an impact. Given a known force of impact, parameters such as peak translation …

A Functional Analysis Of Leader Behavior In A Behavioral Health Setting, Jason White
All Theses And Dissertations
A requirement for Maine behavioral health organizations to provide all employees with evaluations lacks guidelines on how to evaluate leader behavior; best practices are to provide a multifaceted evaluation process that includes direct observation. A single-case research design and continuous partial interval recording procedures were conducted on a male behavioral health clinician leading clinical supervision in which the dependent variable was the clinician’s delivery of positive reinforcement and the independent variable was the provider’s increased discussion of case shares. The basic findings showed that leader behavior changed as follower behavior changed to manage the group and meet group goals. The …
