Use Of Irf-3 And/Or Irf-7 Knockout Mice To Study Viral Pathogenesis: Lessons From A Murine Retrovirus-Induced Aids Model, Megan A. O'Connor, William R. Green

Interferon regulatory factor (IRF) regulation of the type I interferon response has not been extensively explored in murine retroviral infections. IRF-3(-/-) and select IRF-3/7(-/-) mice were resistant to LP-BM5-induced pathogenesis. However, further analyses strongly suggested that resistance could be attributed to strain 129-specific contamination of the known retrovirus resistance gene Fv1. Therefore, caution should be taken when interpreting phenotypes observed in these knockout mice, as strain 129-derived genetic polymorphisms may explain observed differences.

Human metrological features generally refers to geometric measurements extracted from humans, such as height, chest circumference or foot length. Human metrology provides an important soft biometric that can be used in challenging situations, such as person classification and recognition at a distance, where hard biometric traits such as fingerprints and iris information cannot easily be acquired. In this work, we first study the question of predictability and correlation in human metrology. We show that partial or available measurements can be used to predict other missing measurements. The Impartial Jury Clause of the Sixth Amendment requires that the venire from which the state and the defendant draw a twelve-person petit jury be a fair cross-section of the community. The Supreme Court announced a three-prong test in Duren v. Missouri to help courts determine whether there has been a Sixth Amendment violation: (1) whether a distinctive group in the community was excluded; (2) whether the venire was not a fair and reasonable representation of the county population as a whole; and (3) whether that underrepresentation was the result of systematic exclusion. A Statistical Analysis Of The Beneficial Effects Of Ferrous Chloride At The T. E. Maxson Treatment Plant, Bjorn Carlsson

Addition of ferrous chloride can improve wastewater treatment plant process outcomes. In the study, a municipal wastewater treatment plant ceased adding ferrous chloride to its anaerobic lagoon and belt filter press filtrate return streams. Total suspended solids (TSS) and five-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) effluent concentrations and percent removals, primary clarifier BOD5 and TSS effluent concentration and percent removals, sludge volume index (SVI), sludge polymer feed demand, and H2S concentration in biogas on days with ferrous chloride addition were all compared using non-parametric randomization statistical techniques to days without ferrous chloride addition.
