Understanding Turnover Intentions And Behavior Of Indian Information Systems Professionals: A Study Of Organizational Justice, Job Satisfaction And Social Norms, Vidya V. Iyer
Dissertations
Despite the phenomenal growth projected for the Indian information technology (IT) industry, one of the biggest challenges it faces is the high rate of turnover in offshore Indian-based supplier firms (Everest Research Group 2011). In this dissertation, we explored the following determinants of turnover intentions—social norms job attributes, job satisfaction, organizational alternatives, first order supervisory justice dimensions (distributive, procedural, interpersonal and informational justice) and second-order organizational justice measured by the first order justice dimensions. The research design was longitudinal to assess turnover behavior and its relationship with turnover intentions. Telephonic interviews were conducted with 75 Indian IS professionals based in …

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to determine the factors that affect public school superintendent turnover in five western states. An explanatory theory was developed to cover all of the possible variables and show the relationship between those variables. The questions that guided this research study were:
(1) What environmental factors influence the tenure of superintendents in western states?
(2) What governance factors influence the tenure of superintendents in western states?
(3) What personal factors influence the tenure of superintendents in western states?
(4) What are the incentives and/or disincentives that influence the tenure of superintendents in western states? …

Accuracy Of The Teacherinsight Online Perceiver Tool In Determining The Effectiveness Of High Rated And Low Rated Math And Science New Hire Teachers Following One Year And Three Years Of Single School District Employment, Nicole Regan, Karen L. Hayes
Educational Leadership Faculty Publications
The combined goals of recruiting and retaining effective teachers are often difficult to realize due to fluctuating student enrollments and class-size targets, teaching-load norms or requirements, and budgetary and resource constraints. While schools and districts market and recruit bright new teachers to the field, they too, struggle to maintain enticing career development standards that would retain the most effective teachers in the district (Guirano, Santibanez, & Daley, 2006). With the high turnover in schools, student achievement suffers. Teacher attrition has grown by 50% over the past fifteen years. The national teacher turnover rate has risen to 16.8%. In urban schools, …
Necessary Pre-Entry Competencies As Perceived By Florida Extension Agents, Matt Benge, Amy Harder, Hannah Carter
Necessary Pre-Entry Competencies As Perceived By Florida Extension Agents, Matt Benge, Amy Harder, Hannah Carter
The Journal of Extension
It is important to focus attention on the pre-entry competencies of new organization members and to identify the competencies needed by Extension agents to determine adequate education curricula and training, and to improve retention. Current professional development models disregard the competencies needed by agents entering Extension. This article describes Florida Extension agents' perceptions of necessary pre-entry competencies. The most necessary competencies reported by respondents were: self-management, program development process, communication skills, interpersonal skills, technical/subject matter expertise, and teaching skills. UF/IFAS Extension administrators and personnel should build upon the competencies new Extension agents possess when entering Extension.

Audit Committee Director Turnover, Meghna Singhvi
Audit Committee Director Turnover, Meghna Singhvi
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Actions by both private sector organizations and legislators in recent years have highlighted the importance of the audit committee of the board of directors of corporations in the financial reporting process. For example, the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 has multiple sections that deal with the composition and functioning of audit committees. My dissertation examines multiple issues related to the composition of audit committees.
In the first two parts of my dissertation, I examine the stock market reactions to disclosures of audit committee appointments and departures in the 8-Ks filed with the SEC during 2008 and 2009. I find that …
Capitalizing On (Un)Limited Potential: Building Digital Collections With A Student Workforce, Erin Passehl
Capitalizing On (Un)Limited Potential: Building Digital Collections With A Student Workforce, Erin Passehl
Erin Passehl Stoddart
Regardless of size or budget, libraries and archives are being asked to do more with fewer resources. Digitization projects are susceptible to these same demands. One way to make progress in this digital environment with a shoestring budget is by taking advantage of a student workforce. This presentation shares strategies for digitizing collections using undergraduate student labor, including working with students with no prior knowledge or experience with archival materials or digital collections. The presentation will also address managing additional educational requirements for credit-earning interns, appropriate assumptions for timelines and workflows, scheduling dilemmas, student turnovers, and working with an untrained …
The Effects Of Gender Composition In Academic Departments On Faculty Turnover, Pamela S. Tolbert, Tal Simons, Alice Andrews, Jaehoon Rhee
The Effects Of Gender Composition In Academic Departments On Faculty Turnover, Pamela S. Tolbert, Tal Simons, Alice Andrews, Jaehoon Rhee
Pamela S Tolbert
Using data collected from a sample of 50 academic departments over the years 1977-88, the authors test several hypotheses about the effects of departmental gender composition on faculty turnover. They find that as the proportion of women in a department grew, turnover among women also increased, confirming the prediction that increases in the relative size of a minority will result in increased intergroup competition and conflict. The evidence also suggests, however, that when the proportion of female faculty reached a threshold of about 35-40%, turnover among women began to decline. The proportion of women had a negligible or negative impact …

The Effect Of Trust In Leader On Job Satisfaction And Intent To Leave Present Job In The Context Of The Nursing Profession., William David Gibson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Three research questions made up the focus of the study. First, after controlling for demographic variables of age, gender, and tenure in organization, to what extent does trust in leader (nurse manager) relate to job satisfaction? Second, after controlling for demographic variables of age, gender, and tenure in organization, to what extent does trust in leader (nurse manager) and job satisfaction relate to intent to leave present job? Finally, are the effects of trust in leader (nurse manager) on intent to leave present job all direct effects, or are some or all of the effects indirect through the variable of …
Predictors Of Intent To Stay For Hourly Employees In The Fast Food Industry., Kathleen Gosser
Predictors Of Intent To Stay For Hourly Employees In The Fast Food Industry., Kathleen Gosser
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study (N = 935) examined the relationships of demographic characteristics, organizational justice (including the three areas: distributive, procedural, and interactional), and organizational socialization with the dependent variable of intent to stay. Intent to stay has been identified as a criterion variable that predicts actual turnover behavior. If a person responds positively that they intend to stay, they in fact do so. A paper survey, both in English and Spanish, was sent to 100 fast food restaurants for hourly employees to complete anonymously and individually. Multiple regression analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were conducted to determine the strength of the …

Human Capital Decisions And Employee Satisfaction At Selected Hotels In India, S.C Bagri, A. Suresh Babu, Mohit Kukreti, Scott Smith
Hospitality Review
Understanding the role of human capital is one of the key considerations in delivering and sustaining competitiveness. Managing employees in the hospitality industry is particularly a challenging task as the industry is considered to be labor intensive. High turnover and increasing employee demands are among the problems that are identified as threats to maintaining a strong competitive position. Successful hotels attempt to retain their best employees in an effort to adapt to changing environments and increased competition. Effective hotel human resource systems can produce positive outcomes, through effective employee retention strategies that focus on work force motivation, attitudes and perception. …

A Study Of Ghiselli’S Hobo Syndrome, Sang Eun Woo
A Study Of Ghiselli’S Hobo Syndrome, Sang Eun Woo
Department of Psychological Sciences Faculty Publications
This study attempts to clarify conceptual and operational inconsistencies in the literature around “Ghiselli’s hobo syndrome.” I propose that defining characteristics of hobo syndrome should include both the exhibition of frequent job movement behavior and positive attitudes about such behavior. This definition effectively differentiates the construct from other similar phenomena associated with frequent job movement (e.g., job/career mobility, protean careers). Using latent class cluster analysis of a diverse sample of 944 U.S. workers, it was empirically validated that a small number of individuals resembling the proposed characteristics of hobos did emerge as a distinct group (N = 42), providing person-centered …
Patient Safety In Nursing Homes, Kali Thomas
Patient Safety In Nursing Homes, Kali Thomas
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Safety of residents has gained increased popularity in recent years following a report from the Institute of Medicine attributing 98,000 hospital deaths each year to errors by staff. As a result, regulatory agencies, advocates, and health care providers have shifted their focus to understanding patient safety and developing a culture that promotes safety. However, nursing homes lag behind other health care providers in their adoption of a patient safety culture and understanding what factors affect safety in resident care. These insights are needed to ensure that nursing home residents receive the safe care.
The purpose of this dissertation is to …

My study was conducted to understand tree community structure and how soil moisture and fire frequency influence them. Eighteen plots were placed in the Edge of Appalachia Nature Preserve of unglaciated southern Ohio: nine within a prescribed burn site and nine control sites outside the burn. Sites were stratified in triplicate across GIS-derived integrated soil moisture index (IMI) classes. Burning was done in 1996. Overstory species dbh and sapling species were sampled 1997, 2001, and 2008. Overstory stems were located in 2009 using range finders. Stem locations were loaded into GIS using novel techniques to quantify individual stem IMI values. …

This study analyzed responses to career-related questions from a survey of experienced Canadian Certified Management Accountants (CMAs), relative experts in the field of management accounting, to address how mentoring affects turnover intentions and career plateau tendency of male and female accounting professionals in industry. In this regard, we used structural equations modeling to build and test a framework illustrating the impact of mentoring and career-related factors. Results indicate that fostering a mentoring environment within an organization can strengthen CMAs perceptions of their careers and employers. Mentoring has also been suggested to enhance womens opportunities to advance in organizations and help …

An Exploration Into Addictions Counsellor Turnover In Manitoba: A Narrative Inquiry, Shannon Elizabeth Winters
Digitized Theses
Addiction is a growing concern particularly in Manitoba where the rate is higher than the national average. Individuals are accessing addictions services at steadily increasing rates therefore Counsellors will be needed to deal with this increase. International literature reports high turnover among addictions counsellors, with detrimental effects on service delivery. This thesis aims to enhance an understanding of the ways in which contextual features influence how and when counsellors leave the field of addiction. A critical narrative approach was adopted that aligned with a constructivist paradigm. Two semi structured narrative interviews were conducted with four participants. Common themes that emerged …
