The Evaluation Of The Use Of A Paper Tracking Form To Improve Provider Adherence To Lipid Guidelines, Diane Ladd Aug 2011

The Evaluation Of The Use Of A Paper Tracking Form To Improve Provider Adherence To Lipid Guidelines, Diane Ladd

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in men and women in the United States. Significant research into the risk factors for cardiovascular disease has been done, and the effect of hyperlipidemia on cardiovascular risk has been well documented. Recent research has shown that there is a lack of adherence to lipid guidelines by primary care providers. Failure to follow clinical guidelines for lipid disorders leads to increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The objective of the project was to evaluate whether a simple, paper-based, lipid tracking form could improve provider adherence to current lipid guidelines. This descriptive study used …

Many women have risk factors that can increase their risk for developing breast cancer. These women may benefit from recommendations based on their personal and family history. Women at increased risk may experience higher levels of anxiety, depression, or cancer worry than women who are at average or only slightly increased risk. By providing these women with an accurate risk assessment, these factors may be decreased. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effect of a nurse-run clinic for women at increased risk for breast cancer on anxiety, depression, and cancer worry.;A pre-test/post-test longitudinal design was used with …

Evaluation Of A Protocol Change To Improve Screening Of Mineral Bone Disorders In Patients With Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease, Jarena Kelly

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a growing worldwide problem. Patients with CKD are at great risk for multiple health problems and ultimately face end stage renal disease (ESRD). One of the problems of concern is the loss of bone mass, termed mineral bone disorders (MBD). The literature reveals that bone mass loss can begin as early as stage 3 CKD. The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Clinical Practice Guideline (2003), and The Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO, 2009) recommend that persons identified in stage 3 CKD be screened for hypovitamintosis D, elevated intact parathyroid (iPTH) levels, and abnormal calcium and …

Background. More than 12.5 million children in the United States are overweight. More specifically, in 2007, 31% of 9th grade students in West Virginia were overweight. Healthy People 2010 identified obesity as among the top ten health issues and set a goal to reduce the proportion of children and adolescents who were overweight to 5%.
