Reversible Addition-Fragmentation Chain-Transfer (Raft) Polymerization In Grafting Polymer Chains From Tio2 Nanoparticles, Joseph Lott

A phosphonate coupling molecule containing a vinyl double bond was synthesized and anchored onto the surface of TiO2 nanoparticles. Diffuse reflectance infra-red (DRIFT) spectroscopy confirmed the presence of the coupling molecule on the particulate surface while thermogravimetric analysis revealed the coupling molecule covered 28% of the surface. Methyl methacrylate was free radically polymerized through the immobilized vinyl bond on the surface in the presence of the reversible additionfragmentation chain-transfer (RAFT) agent 4-cyanopentanoic acid dithiobenzoate using 2,2'-azobisisobutylnitrile (AIBN) as an initiator. Integrated circuits (ICs) are often the source of the high-frequency noise that drives electromagnetic emissions from electronic products. A case study is presented where emissions from a printed circuit board containing an automotive microcontroller are reduced significantly through analysis of the coupling mechanisms from the chip to the board and attached cables. Noise generated by the IC is explored through measurements in a semi-anechoic chamber and TEM cell, through near-field scans, and through modifications to the printed circuit board. The present study was designed to examine the finger-pinch force control, digit force sharing and digit coupling relations of 13 young and 14 older adults. Subjects performed four isometric tri-digit finger-pinch force production conditions reflecting all combinations of mean force level (20 and 40% MVC) and target shape (constant and sinusoidal). Older adults had significantly reduced force control, as indicated by their greater levels of absolute and relative force variability and targeting error than young adults. The thermospheric midnight temperature maxi-
mum (MTM) is a highly variable, but persistent, large scale
neutral temperature enhancement which occurs at low lati-
tudes. Its occurrence can impact many fundamental upper
atmospheric parameters such as pressure, density, neutral
winds, neutral density, and F-region plasma. Although the
MTM has been the focus of several investigations employ-
ing various instrumentation including photometers, satellites,
and Fabry-Perot interferometers, limited knowledge exists
regarding the latitude extent of its influence on the upper at-
mosphere. This is largely due to observational limitations
which confined the collective geographic range to latitudes

Large-scale software systems can contain millions of elements, which interact to achieve the system functionality. The federal program of deinstitutionalizing psychiatric facilities has resulted in a well documented, ever-increasing mentally ill population in the nation's prisons and jails. Historically, the criminal justice system has maintained a laissez-faire attitude toward the mentally ill, and only became involved with the mentally ill when a crime had been committed. This dissertation presents the development of a two-dimensional St. Johns River model and the coupling of hydrodynamic and wave models for the simulation of storm tides. The hydrodynamic model employed for calculating tides and surges is ADCIRC-2DDI (ADvanced CIRCulation Model for Shelves, Coasts and Estuaries, Two-Dimensional Depth Integrated) developed by Luettich et al. (1992). The finite element based model solves the fully nonlinear shallow water equations in the generalized wave continuity form. Hydrodynamic applications are operated with the following forcings: 1) astronomical tides, 2) inflows from tributaries, 3) meteorological effects (winds and pressure), and 4) waves (wind-induced waves). Impingement is the most commonly used method of cooling in the hot stages of gas turbines. This is often combined with film cooling to further increase the cooling performance. The mainstream flow where in the coolant films discharge often has large stream wise pressure variations. All existing studies on coupled film and impingement cooling concentrated on the effect of the film depletion on the impingement heat transfer.
