This paper describes a project, which has been supported by the Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, that aims to identify how the technologybased tools of a new generation of students can be successfully used by higher education. Recent commentaries propose that Universities are ill-equipped to educate a new generation of learners whose sophisticated use of emerging technologies is incompatible with current teaching practice. This project will investigate this proposed gap between learners’ and teachers’ use of technologies and identify the implications for higher education. Personal Response Systems are a technology similar to use to a television remote control or a mobile telephone for sending SMS messages. They enable almost instant communication between student and instructor in lecture situations. This paper begins from a belief that all media are material, and that in their specificity time-based media can introduce us to different kinds of relationships and experiences across material surfaces and forces within gallery spaces. To this end, it will demonstrate how a 16mm film installation within a gallery space presents materiality as emergent. Grid connected distributed generation (DG) increases reliability and additional benefits for consumers as well as utilities. The stable and reliable operation of a power system is necessary after major emergencies (or blackouts) following a major system event. Distributed generation may be capable of black start and contribute to fast restoration process at medium to low voltage level. Voltage problem is always a critical issue in operating a distribution system. The uncertainties of load distribution and variation have introduced a great complexity to the task of maintaining system voltage within the permitted range. In this paper, small-scale generator, known as distributed generation (DG), is employed in the system and acting as a voltage regulator. The output of DG is controlled in such a way that acceptable level of electrical supply quality is achieved with a reasonable operating cost. Appropriate size and location of distributed generation (DG) play a significant role in minimizing power losses in distribution systems. This paper represents techniques to minimize power losses in a distribution feeder by optimizing DG model in terms of size, location and operating point of DG. Sensitivity analysis for power losses in terms of DG size and DG operating point has been performed. The proposed sensitivity indices can indicate the changes in power losses with respect to DG current injection. On The Design Of Early Generation Variety Trials With Correlated Data, Brian R. Cullis, A B. Smith, N. E. Coombes

This article considers the design of early generation variety trials with a prespecified spatial correlation structure and introduces a new class of partially replicated designs called p-rep designs in which the plots of standard varieties are replaced by additional plots of test lines. We show how efficient p-rep designs can be readily generated using the modified Reactive TABU search algorithm. The expected and realized genetic gain of p-rep and grid plot designs is compared in a simulation study.
