Certain proanthocyanidins found in various wines, grape juice, and other plant extracts exhibit endothelium-dependent vasorelaxing activity that involves increased nitric oxide production by endothelial cells. The smallest procyanidins (PCs) possessing substantial EDR activity were isolated from grape seeds. A dimer di-gallate (epicatechin-galloyl-epicatechin-gallate) was purified from concord grape seed extracts by Toyopearl TSK-40 gel chromatography, HPLC and electrospray FTMS. Further characterization was achieved using tannase treatment and acid thiolysis. This compound had an EC50 for vasorelaxation of 0.67±0.04 μg/ml when tested for endothelium-dependent relaxing activity in phenylephrine pre-contracted rat aortic rings.

A simple digital holographic apparatus and method allow reconstruction of three-dimensional objects with a very narrow depth of focus or high axial resolution. A number of holograms are optically generated using different wavelengths spaced at regular intervals. They are recorded, such as on a digital camera, and are reconstructed numerically. Multiwavelength interference of the holograms results in contour planes of very small thickness and wide separation. Objects at different distances from the hologram plane are imaged clearly and independently with complete suppression of the out-of-focus images. In accordance with the present invention, an aperture rectenna is provided where the substrate is transparent and of sufficient mechanical strength to support the fabricated structure above it. An aperture antenna is deposited on the transparent substrate and a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) diode is constructed on top of the aperture antenna. There is an insulating layer between the aperture antenna metal and the metal ground plane optimized to maximize the collection of incident radiation. The top of the structure is capped with a metal ground plane layer, which also serves as the DC connection points for each rectenna element.

The device in accordance with the present invention addresses a specific problem arising often in middle ear surgery. Currently available middle ear prostheses are inadequate to remedy the specific problem of a lateral relationship of the stapes capitulum to the malleus, thereby necessitating a cartilage graft resulting in poor sound conductive properties.
