The aim of this study was to measure some of the variable parameters of canine pelvic bones and to make a comparision between the sexes. Eighteen variable measurements of pelvic bones from 34 adult dogs (18 female and 16 male) were studied. The Epididymal Sperm Survival Interval Following Orchidectomy In Dogs, Sudson Sirivaidyapong, Theerawat Swangchan-Uthai

The aim of the study was to investigate the motility and viability of canine epididymal spermatozoa, collected from the epididymides following orchidectomy (castration), over a period of time. Sperm samples were collected at 25-28oC from the caudal epididymis, 0, 1, 3, 6, and 12 hours, after the castration of 75 fertile dogs (1-10 years old). Progressive motility and viability of the epididymal sperm decreased over a period of time, after the collection. The Use Of Porcine Small Intestinal Submucosa (Psis) In A Canine Deep Corneal Ulcer, Pasakorn Briksawan, Sunti Wongaumnuaykul, Pranee Tuntivanich, Nalinee Tuntivanich, Kumpanart Sunthornvipat

Porcine small intestinal submucosa (PSIS) was used as a graft to repair 13 dogs with deep corneal ulceration. Eight cases had staphyloma and staphyloma associated with hyphema. Two cases had staphyloma associated with glaucoma. There was one case of each of descemetocoele, descemetocoele associated with glaucoma and rupture of the cornea. Ten dogs without glaucoma returned to normal vision (76.93%) with minimal anterior synechia and scarring. Three dogs with associated glaucoma became blind (23.07%). PSIS has been demonstrated to stimulate corneal healing without tissue rejection and is recommended to be used as a graft material to repair deep corneal ulcers …

A Survey Of Bone Tumors In Dogs And Cats From 1986 To 2000 In Ankara, Osman Kutsal, Ümi̇t Kaya, Sevi̇l Atalay Vural, Mehmet Sağlam

In the present study, bone tumor samples obtained from 18 dogs and 21 cats from various clinics between 1986 and 2000 were clinically and pathologically examined at the Pathology Department, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ankara. Most bone tumors examined were from 5-8-year-old dogs (43.75%) and cats (45%). A significant decrease was detected in animals over 8 years old. These tumors were observed in large breeds, mostly in German shepherd (38.4%) and Anatolian shepherd (Kangal) (15.4%) dogs. Tumors were seen in 10 male (66.7%) and 5 female (33.3%) dogs , and 11 male (61.1%) and 7 female (38.9%) cats. …

In this study, nikethamide (N) and dyprophylline (D), which are thought to improve the possibility of survival and enhance the pharmacodynamic effects on several haemodynamic parameters, were evaluated in respiratory deficient animals. For this purpose, 32 mongrel dogs aged 2-4 years were randomly divided into four equal groups. The drugs were administered intravenously to the dogs, following respiratoric suppression, which was formed by the administration of xylazine-thiopental sodium and restriction of oxygen. The objective of this study was to demonstrate the specific blood velocity parameters called peak systolic velocity (PSV), end diastolic velocity (EDV) and the resistive index (RI) in the internal ophthalmic artery (IOA) and the long posterior ciliary artery (LPCA) with color Doppler imaging (CDI) in clinically normal dogs. Eight healthy dogs were used in the study. Color Doppler ultrasonography was performed on both eyes. PSV, EDV and RI measurements were obtained for both eyes. Aortic body tumors were investigated macroscopically and microscopically in a 2-year-old, clinically normal, male cross-breed dog. Two tumor masses measuring 4 x 4 x 3 cm in size were determined. One of them was located on the A. subclavia dextra and the other one was located on the A. carotis communis dextra and they adhered to the adventitia of these vessels. The tumor masses were encapsulated within a thin capsule and lobulated with yellowish-brown areas and were elastic in structure. This study sought to determine the roles and effectiveness of findings obtained from radiographic examinations of lungs in the diagnosis of pulmonary diseases and to place radiographic findings into routine practice in dogs and cats. Fifty-eight dogs and 27 cats of different breeds, sexes and ages suspected of having pulmonary disease were used as the study materials after clinical examination and anamnesis. The pulmonary radiographies of these cases were appropriately taken and radiographic findings were evaluated. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of isotonic sodium chloride (ISS-0.9%), hypertonic sodium chloride (HSS-7.2%), HSS + lactate ringer solution (LRS) and HSS + sodium bicarbonate solution (SBS-1.3%) in the treatment of dogs with endotoxaemia. Endotoxaemia was induced by slow injection of a 1 mg/kg/i.v. dose of E. coli endotoxin (0111:B4). At the treatment stage, four groups, each composed of six dogs, were formed and a different treatment plan was carried out in each group: ISS, HSS, HSS + LRS and HSS + SBS. Sixteen dogs with suspected colitis and ulcerative colitis were examined by clinical, radiographic, laboratory and electrocardiographic means from a diagnostic perspective. In the history and clinical examination, mild diarrheic feces mixed with uncoagulated blood and mucus were determined in all dogs. Tenesmus after defecation, mild weight loss and anemia were common observations. Abdominal palpation revealed a palpable thickened large intestine. Biochemical analyses of blood serums showed that potassium levels were increased, and sodium and total protein levels were decreased. The aim of this study was to demonstrate normal duplex patterns of extra (aorta abdominalis, vena cava caudalis) and intraparenchymatous (vena porta, vena hepatica, renal interlober and splenic artery) vessels with color-coded duplex ultrasonography in healthy dogs. While the wave form of the intraparenchymatous vessels like the vena cava caudalis and hepatic vein were mainly affected by the pressure conditions of the intrathoracic and intraabdominal pressure changes due to respiration and cardiac pulsations, portal blood flow was not affected. Ehrlichia canis is the causative agent of canine monocytic ehrlichiosis (CME). The aim of this study was to detect E. canis antibodies in dogs by the IFA and dot-ELISA techniques. Blood sera from 239 dogs were collected as material. IFA test and dot-ELISA were performed with commercially available test kits. The IFA test was applied according to the procedure in the IFA kit. The Immunocomb test system was used in dot-ELISA. Agreement between these techniques was analysed by the kappa (K) test. The specificity and sensitivity of dot-ELISA were calculated. In this study, we aimed to determine the levels of some biochemical parameters in the seminal plasma of German Shepherd dogs. Seven German Shepherd dogs were used as materials. A total of 35 ejaculates, five from each dog, were collected. The seminal plasma of each ejaculate was separated by centrifugation at 5000 rpm for 10 min. Biochemical analyses of the seminal plasma were performed. In a 9-month-old male German Shepherd, degenerative arthritis and incongruity of the elbow joint were observed due to premature closure of the distal radial growth plate. An obvious shortening was present in the radius and ulna, when compared to the contralateral leg. Corticotomy was carried out on the radius and an Ilizarov apparatus was applied to the leg by passing Kirschner wires through the proximal and distal fragments of the radius. In this study, the clinical signs of hepatorenal syndrome that occurs during hepatic cirrhosis were investigated and a variety of diagnosis and therapy methods were investigated in the experimentally ligated bile ducts of dogs.
