The Autobiography Of Medical Education : Anatomy Of A Genre, Cheryl A. Koski
The Autobiography Of Medical Education : Anatomy Of A Genre, Cheryl A. Koski
Doctoral Dissertations
With the publication of Intern by Doctor X [Alan E. Nourse] in 1965, physicians began recounting their passage through medical school, internship, and residency in unprecedented numbers. Coinciding with the emergence of the youth culture, the autobiography of medical education became an established genre during the next three decades. Specifically, ten books appeared in the 1970s, fourteen in the 19803, and six in the 19905. As insider reports, they have the potential to shape the general public’s perception of the health—care system. All of them meet the following criteria: (1) nonfiction full-length books (2) by American physicians writing about their …

The Web Magazine focuses on alumni news and campus events from Gardner-Webb College; now Gardner-Webb University. In this issue of The Web, the GWU Centennial is recognized and will occur in 2005. Traditions are a huge defining factor at GWU, even from the beginning. It was a Baptist idea from the very start. This issue also covers the entire history of the college from its start to where it is now. Carolyn Lewis Duncan (class of 1972) reflects her memories of time on campus. Development Of A Yeast Biosensor Strain For The Identification Of Genotoxic Compounds, Robin M. Reed
Development Of A Yeast Biosensor Strain For The Identification Of Genotoxic Compounds, Robin M. Reed
Inquiry: The University of Arkansas Undergraduate Research Journal
Advances in combinatorial chemistry have provided the pharmaceutical industry with innumerable lead compounds that could potentially serve as therapeutic agents. One of the challenges in the further development of such compounds is to rapidly, yet inexpensively, distinguish those that have undesirable effects such as genotoxicity. Thus, a simple biological assay that would permit the identification of potential DNA mutagens, and be adaptable to high-throughput technologies would be cost effective in screening such lead compounds. The current methods use the Ames and SOS tests involving prokaryotic organisms, while systems that utilize mammalian cell culture and/or animal testing are time-consuming and expensive. …
