Competitive Market Socialism: A Practical Alternative For Sectors Of The Cuban Economy, Melvin Burke

School of Economics Faculty Scholarship

The focus of this paper is to test for evidence of technical and scale efficiency in the commercial banking sector in Malaysia. In this context, the study attempts to evaluate if there are any differences between the efficiency of domestic and foreign owned Malaysian banks by applying the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The result indicates that Malaysian commercial banks did not efficiently combine their inputs and that technical inefficiency was attributed to scale inefficiency.

Development Of A Theoretical Model Based Upon Factors Influencing A Firm's Suitability For Organizational Evolution, Ronald T. Sones

Theses and Dissertations

Early motion pictures resembled theatre productions on film. Decades would pass before the techniques of special effects and editing evolved to provide the type of movie often shown today. Similarly, early television looked like a radio show where the audience could observe the speakers. Ford's Model T, a "horse-less" carriage. seemed to be designed for a harness. In these examples, successful companies learned how to harness and exploit the power of new technologies--others companies became victims. Companies of the current economy must recognize they face a similar watershed. According to Tom Stewart, the economy effectively transitioned into the Information Age …

Who Pays For Health Care Reform?, Susan Giaimo Jan 2001

Who Pays For Health Care Reform?, Susan Giaimo

Political Science Faculty Research and Publications

In this second of three chapters on the distinctive policy dynamics of particular areas of social provision, Susan Giaimo addresses the issue of whether the success of the reformed welfare state in the shape of payers’ and policy makers’ cost‐containment projects have had as their price the sacrifice of equity and solidarity. These questions are explored through the lens of health care reform in Britain, Germany, and the US since the late 1980s: each a country with a distinctive health care system, which undertook major reform initiatives designed to control health care outlays, and addressed the efficiency and equity goals …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of various disinfectants in different concentrations against embryonated Toxocara canis eggs. For this purpose, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10% iodine, 2% glutaraldehyde, 10% benzalkonium chloride, 7% sodium hypochloride, 1% potassium permanganate, 70% ethyl alcohol, 10% potassium hydroxide and 3% phenol solutions were used as the disinfectants. This study was performed both in vitro and in-vivo. In the in vitro experiment, T. canis eggs were treated with disinfectant solutions in different time intervals, and larval motility was observed under X400 magnification with an inverted microscope. Microscopic examinations revealed that T. canis …

Ivr Test & Survey: A Computer Program To Collect Data Via Computerized Telephonic Applications, Louis H. Janda, Michael Janda, Eric Tedford

Psychology Faculty Publications

Several studies have demonstrated the advantages of using interactive voice response (IVR) technology to collect self-report data from research participants and recipients of psychological/medical services. IVR allows participants to phone a computer and respond to recorded questions by pressing the appropriate touch-tone keys on their telephone. Because this technology offers substantial benefits in terms of cost and efficiency, it is surprising that it has not been more widely utilized by researchers and practitioners. Along with the automation of the administration and scoring of tests or surveys, IVR provides for questioning to be adapted to the participants' responses. One possible explanation …

The topic of this Essay is not one Terry Sandalow has worked on, but he got me started on it by organizing, with Eric Stein, the Bellagio Conference on comparative constitutional economic integration in the United States and the European Community. For that, and for thirty-three years during which he has been an unfailingly stimulating and supportive colleague, Dean, and friend, I am deeply grateful.
